No I do too, but I wish it was a true love letter to the Fighting type instead of adding shit like Gardevoir and Gengar. Should have been pure fighting with a few fighting adjacent mons like that westling cat
I thought so too, and I still think Hitmonchan & Hawlucha should've been in (maybe Buzzwole too), but the spread of types lead to extremely varied and fun characters that wouldn't have been possible in any other fighting game.
I'm a MaCHAD though, with Croagunk on the side for memes, so if it was all-Fighting + Incineroar I'd be fine.
I'd be fine with "fighting adjacent" pokemon like the ninja frog but why the frick is Gardevoir in when Gallade is right fricking there or Suicune but not Poliwrath. Hell guys like Scyther/Scizor deserve a spot over shit like Chandlure
Scizor is in too though. Also Gengar & Gardevoir are super popular, mostly humanoid, and were even both in that fangame Type Wild from many years before Pokken.
>but why the frick is Gardevoir in when Gallade is right fricking there.
Gardevoir mogs Gallade in popularity so hard, it will never get into a spinoff game before Gardevoir.
I assume they picked both popular ones, and ones that would've been more unconventional for a fighting game character.
They specifically didn't want to have the roster just be a dozen pokemon that looked and played like bipedal dudes. Why bother making it pokemon at that point if you're not going to lean into it?
>why the frick is Gardevoir in when Gallade is right fricking there
Bitch, you know why.
I liked a good amount of the roster and think pure fighting would have been too limited. But several of the choices they used sucked and we're clearly just for shilling. Frick Charizard, Pikachu (both versions), and Mewtwo (both versions).
Hard disagree. That is such a boring move. Granted I would trade in Pikachu Libre for Hawlucha any day of the week but Pokken has some genuinely inspired characters with unique movesets like Darkrai and Scizor who arent fighting types at all. Why limit yourself to a small subset of the pokemon roster simply because of typing?
That's why I keep harping on "fighting adjacent" but maybe I should say bipedal humanoid pokemon. The game has some wild ass choices but they're wild in the wrong way like fricking Suicune
>That's why I keep harping on "fighting adjacent" but maybe I should say bipedal humanoid pokemon
That's still boring.
I'd rather have a good but "boring" fighting game that something with dumbass choices
You got exactly that you fricking idiot. Suicune and Chandelure are the exceptions.
This, I took one look at the roster and never looked back
Fighting is thematically the most boring type. It takes a very special monster concept to do anything cool with it, and like other anons in the thread said Pokken is better off with a more varied roster with inventive playstyles.
I remember it, but I didn't buy it. I played the demo and even thought it was cool, but I doubted I would be able to get anybody IRL to play it with me.
too many people thought the plane switching was too weird and it died for it. the number of mechanics attached to it don't matter if the majority of people think it's still too clunky or it halted matches too much. also the lack of single console versus back on the Wii U tanked its interest at events due to the absurd cost to support it
Sex with Machamp.
Pokken was the last pokemon game I had fun with clover being the one before that. Gamefreak could easily make a game with at least 150 pokemon and have models and animations just as good as pokken, but consumers are moronic and keep on buying low effort entries.
Nah, everytime a homosexual poser says "I want a real time pokemon game where you control the battles like dark souls" and I remember them this exist and they are a fricking casual for not knowing or playing it.
Barebones content.
Did not like the mechanics of this game and also this.
Nah, it's one of the few games I've bought twice since I wanted to play those arcade characters. It was pretty fun and I like all the animations.
Pokken 2 never ever
If the shitty nintendo online was free I'd have bought it again too.
I remember. And Gardevoir was precious
I loved playing Gardevoir specifically because I knew it was obnoxious as frick
Machamp never stood a chance
Because it sucks. Both the arena fighter and 3d fighter modes.
I know people would b***h about "muh variety" but I wanted a fighting game about fighting types.
>But anon Gamefreak love the fighting type
Yeah when it suits whatever Lucario clone they made.
I remember this vividly cos I'm a massive tekkengay
>a pokemon game that plays like Tekken? What kinda dumbass leak is that lmao you really think I'll fall for th-
>it's real
>get crazy hyped before finding out it's only on wii-u
>seethe for the next year and every time I see people talk about how underrated it was I get annoyed again that it was locked to another stupid nintablet
I truly hate the garbage consoles Nintendo shits out with a passion.
It needed a real storymode instead of that Mewtwo shit.
If this game played like smash and was just Pokémon it would be the best fighting game on the market. why isn’t it a thing? It’s like they’re moronic or something.
>Smash but Pokemon is enough to be the best on the market no matter how good the gameplay or anything else is when Smash already has a bunch of Pokemon
Go frick yourself
Pokemon already has child molesters. It doesn't need ones who shower once per year.
>make a Pokemon spin-off
>don't add any content into it
>it dies
PMD proving to be the only good spin-off still
Synergy was such a fricking moronic idea
fricking RIP, a sequel with actual things like moves, abilities, more interesting Commander bonuses, etc would've been so good
;_;
I never thought we'd get a sequel to Snap so maybe 'never ever', they're due to announce a spin off next month so we might get something that isn't just more PMD
They added several additional characters to the arcade version, did a Switch port that fixed the multiplayer (and had the arcade characters + other new ones) and then did more DLC characters on top of that.
If your comment of "don't add any content into it" is referring to modes in general, that's a fighting game problem, not a Pokken problem.
Not him, but I didn't even realise they added more content and a Switch version. Who did they add? Did they add more gamemodes in the switch version?
>Arcade Additions
Dakrai, Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk
>Switch Port Addition
Decidueye
>Switch Port DLC
Aegislash, Blastoise
As far as new modes, the most important one is they made local multiplayer not a piece of shit since you can now easily play on the same console (with split screen, but it's better than the Wii U's offerings).
There's also some gimmicky stuff like a KoF-style team battle, and a myriad of online stuff like Daily Challenges.
The 3v3 mode is cool since it kind of works like real Pokemon rules where you choose your next Pokemon after you lose your first round instead of locking the order in. The Pokemon World Championships also use that mode in tournament, it's more interesting I think.
Also made it have a LAN mode that honestly lets you run a real switch + an emulator for the split screen. It's more or less what I've done.
Pinball sequel never
Ranger sequel never
Pokemon Channel sequel never
It did get updates though. DX added the arcade characters and then got DLC (Aegislash, Blastoise, and some assists), the community stuck to it since it was part of the Pokemon World Championships. Also:
>Conquest
>Snap & New Snap
>Orre games
>Ranger (I forget how many of them are good but at least one is)
>Pinball RS
>The TCG RPGs on GBC
I've been looking into the Pokemon TCG lately since I've heard about how it's cheap to get into and the SV meta might be the best in a long time, makes me wish we got more games with it as the focus.
>tekken
Arena brawlers =/= 3D fighters.
what do you think pokken stands for
It's an arena fighter/2D fighter hybrid with Tekken wall combos. The arena fighter part was actually good though, very rare.
the average pokken player
I remember having fun destroying people in online matches with Shadow Mewtwo before they nerfed him into the ground
The only thing I remember is some nip winning a tournament and saying that he won so artists would made more porn of Braixien
The best thing to come out of Pokken was the controller they made for it, I fricking love that thing it's my go-to for any 2D game that doesn't need analogs.
Same, anon, same.
Pretty sure the 3d model for gardevoir in those rule34 videos are from it, so I remember it very very well
Gardevoir and Chandelure unironically ruin the game
Is it actually good? I've been on the fence about it for years.
It's far better than it should be. It's a unique mix of Tekken-style 3D fighting with some moves that lock you into a 2D plane for something temporarily closer to a traditional fighter. Each pokemon is well animated with a moveset that feels good and has unique quirks. It's simple enough that you can just hit buttons based on vibes and do alright but with room for mastery.
I think the main reason it never really found a scene is that fighting games are already niche and this is an even smaller niche, not anything to do with its quality.
I feel like it failed for two reasons. 1) Most of the FGC wouldn't be caught dead playing it (see TFH) and don't take it seriously. 2) A lot of the Pokemon fanbase are either too moronic for fighting games or shrivel up at the thought of anything competitive or PvP related. Without being able to appeal to either side, it's clear why it never did well.
I loved how the Pokemon all borrowed moves and win/lose animations from Tekken characters, since it means Pikachu is officially a Mishima.
Machamp and Gengar were my bread and butter. I REFUSE to stop Grabbing-Spinning-Slamming! Stop getting grabbed then!
I tried getting into it duroling the 2020 demo trial on NSO and I hated it. I just wanted a 2D game.
>dude lmao random moves will punt you into a 3D arena mode and the game turns into a gay Tohou sim dodging projectile vomit spam until you get tired or hit the move that sends you back to 2D
Clunky, obnoxious and gimmicky as frick. If you play someone as Machamp you have to work extra harder or else you get fricked.
Machamp isn't bad in Field Phase though. He has decent projectiles of his own, armored approach options off of Bulk Up, and his jump Heavy that just zooms over and bonks them on the head to whiff punish anything into Phase Change.
It was at fighting game tournaments for a bit. It looked fun enough that I tried it.
>Could have had Blaziken
>Infernape
>Darmanitan
No, we need the candle pokemon
>Could have had Blaziken
Anon...
Nice wiener bro
blaziken and infernape are redundant together. You should explore variety. Like having Snorlax or wobuffet be a counter character.
/v/tards once again outing themselves as posers and homosexuals who will find virtually any excuse to trash on any game.
>he wants dull and boring reps
Seriously?
>Make a sequel
>2D only, get rid of the arena trash
>Add pic related
I will now buy your game
I was a Garchomp main
If there is ever a Pokken 2, I'd love to see Tryanitar, Donphan, Breloom, Duskclop, Azumarril, Tinkaton and Toxtricity
I remember. Bought the WiiU version. Bought the Switch version. I'd buy it again at full price if they ported it to PC.
Needed more 'mons. Less Pikachus.
Pika Libre cucking Hawlucha still upsets me.
They chose a character based on sex appeal, what else is new
