uhh ffxiv is alright i enjoy it. heard wow can still be fun these days, depends on your nostalgia i guess. swtor seems alright, lotro has a pretty nice community from what ive played
ffxivgays will say xiv but as someone that played the last few expansions, the community is obnoxious. sure it isn't homosexuals screeching at you like in wow, but it's annoying in a new way. there's a lot of faux excitement in the way people communicate. how nice people are feels extremely shallow and inauthentic. it's strange and i couldn't relate to anyone in my FC. plenty of people in our chat would get stern talking-tos for saying whatever thing they felt could cause even a modicum of strife. it's all extremely sanitized. women love it because they're never sincere and fit right in.
That's the internet now. It extends far beyond XIV.

Can I play at my own pace until a certain level or is there a time limit on the trial? And how does the pricing work? It's a monthly subscription but I have to also buy expansions separately? What the frick?
You can play all the way through the second expansion (not sure if you can play the post-expansion patch content), no time limit, but once you pay you have to continue to sub in order to play. Limited to level 60, 300k gil cap, can't use the market board, can't trade, can't join guilds. It's pretty generous.
Pricing is basically what WoW does. Buy the game to get access to the base game and all existing expansions, $12 a month for the basic subscription (the other tiers are completely unnecessary).
If you want a buy to play MMO, Guild Wars 2 exists (don't play it if you like Guild Wars 1).

XIV probably has the most active community.
Avoid all MMOs with a groupfinder or similar matchmaking systems.
Your best bet are full loot MMORPGs like RuneScape, Eve, Ultima, Tibia or Albion. Those are games where you can't trust random players. The only community you care about is the guild you are in.
RS3 ain't doing too well these days, and the other games you listed are very niche. OSRS is good but its so basic its not really a modern mmo.
Can you really trust anyone in EVE, though? That game's a libertarian backstabbing simulator.

A large playerbase doesn't mean the community is good. I don't care about millions of players that I never get to see or interact with because they are scattered across countless servers.
