Not him but Planescape Torment, clearly. It's like whole another species compared to BG3 and I don't even think that BG3 has a particularly abhorrent writing either.
Idk about best but I'd say that every Sony "movie game" is written better than this. The Uncharted series is a better story for example.
You people need to read more books though, this game isn't even close to "good" writing.
I won't even list every game with better writing, that would take too long, off the top of my head here are some that blow it out of the water >Planescape: Torment >NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer >KOTR2 >Disco Elysium (yes the politics are pseud but the prose is excellent) >Icewind Dale >It's own progenitors: BGI/II >The entire Witcher series
The problem is the available writing talent; shit on boomers all you want but they were talented story tellers. Millennials are the first generation of humans to suffer max exposure to the internet and social media, a condition that often causes an individual to "outsource" their critical thinking and opinion forming skills to the great other, the "consensus." This phenomena degrades the ability of millenial writers to imagine things that exist outside of their own mind and the always online loop it is hooked up to. All characters and dialogue are marked by the peculiarities of this generation, no matter how out of place they are. Every moment of gravitas must be broken up with a witty quip, the ubiquitous "that happened" moment. Storytelling conventions that have been refined by our ancestors over the course of generations are tropes that MUST be subverted. Anybody who reaches maturity while still holding onto the empathy and conceptualization required to create entire worlds that do NOT reflect one's own immediate surroundings is too smart to write stories for looney troon videogame devs. Additionally, videogames are one of the first industries to have been touched by the ESG ghoul, and the utter lack of talent here is a sneak-preview of what your pilots, doctors, and politicians will be like in another few years.
>NWN2
lol. mask of the betrayer was decent I guess, everything else in that game was cringe beyond belief. I haven't seen a more moronic character than Ammon Jerro
You don't need top tier vidya to be written better than BG3. Anything that isn't full of trash dialogue and prose is better by default. The only stuff you can say this is better than is maybe some modern trash trying to be mature like the nuGoW games, or really bad Japanese games like XB2.
It has its moments but yeah, the main story and the most characters are pretty awful.
It's a pretty mediocre and buggy CRPG with a ton of missing or unfinished content. Why people are so obsessed about it that it has very high quality production values and cinematic dialogue.
Well, Nightsong is fricking awful and totally ruins Act 2, but the Gobbo Camp is kino and the majority of Act 2 ignoring Nightsong's cringe is pretty decent
>Nightsong

It doesn't matter how many times you spam this nonsensical rewriting of peoples complaints, it doesn't change the fact the handling of her character is hamfisted, if she was male or straight it would be just as bad.
Its childish writing to take a character that has been tortured for 100 years in isolation, surrounded by their most hated enemies in the middle of the worst possible place for a daughter of Selune (The Shadowfell) to completely change their behavior at the drop of a hat to go from mystic stoic demigod to "WOW... SEX.. AMIRITE?? LESBIAN SEX?? ISNT THAT SOO HOT VIEWER? HAHA IM ABOUT TO GO HAVE LESBIAN SEX!!!"
Shameless fanservice in the middle of a critical story moment isn't good writing.
If it was in a weeb yuri smut game you would call it out for what it is, but because you feel some weird brand loyalty you will deny it.
It is handled poorly and immediately tears down the illusion that the worldbuilding worked so hard to achievement.
Stop pretending everyone who has criticism of the game is some boogeyman, if people like you were the only people that played DOS2 then it would never have been fixed. Clearly Larian is already acknowledging their frick ups with their recent changes to Gale's horrendous camp dialogue.
It doesn't matter how many times you post essays autistically screeching about it, you're just mad she's gay.
Cry more homosexual.
Oh shit >Gale's camp dialogue
You literally can't help yourself even when trying to seriously go full mask on, you cannot stop crying about gay people.
You are so blinded by your devotion to culture wars you can't appreciate quality or subtly in art at all.
Gale was the consort of a goddess, did you even play the game? They changed the awful dialogue options for him that only allowed your character to drool over him or scorn him, no middle ground. They admitted as much in the patchnotes.
I pray you are underage because an adult behaving like this is simply embarassing.
She clearly has an Eastern European accent when singing. With maybe the major exception of some American accents with their origins outside of the English language (like African-American and Italian-American), native English speakers don't pronounce "the" like "duh."
Well, Nightsong is fricking awful and totally ruins Act 2, but the Gobbo Camp is kino and the majority of Act 2 ignoring Nightsong's cringe is pretty decent

Is a lying cuckold who specifically took bear wiener in the ass so he could bring up having a threesome to Shart, so he could LARP as a cuck.
Nothing described in this post happens.
Literally what I just posted.
If you romance Halsin alongside Selunite Shart you can have a threesome (you of course have to bring all of this up).
Some mind-broken waifu gay has fanfiction this into being a mandatory inescapable cuck relationship being forced on you, he'll post the meme-collage he made soon (if he hasn't already been shamed out of the thread).
This is honestly one of my biggest gripes with the writing. You're telling me this girl that's super closed-off, who takes a bunch of time to warm up to you and build a deeper connection is totally fine with you cheating on her and having threeways right after the two of you have sex for the first time? Its such blatant kink wish fulfillment that it ruins the character. I actually quite enjoyed her character arc before I found out about all this shit. There's genuine depth to it, especially if you've known people that have been in abusive relationships (whether that be with a partner, family or religion) and pick up on some of the more subtle signs. The actual character building and romance was clearly written by someone who knew what they were doing and took great care to write an interesting character, but Larian just has to frick it up with their fetishes. Josh Sawyer was fricking right.
This is your defense of this slop? Because it's D&D the writing has to be bad? LMAO you MUST be a zoomer if you can't name D&D CRPGs with excellent writing. Talentless rainbow haired troons will never be as good as when the development (including storyboarding and writing) was handled by white men. Sorry, not sorry, deal with it.
>This is your defense of this slop?
it literally is
everyone knew D&D was slop for 30 years. not my fault you forgot
D&D games were already moving towards multiplayer "tabletop simulator" elements entirely because they realized BG1 and Planescape were flukes and they just couldn't write good CRPGs to save their lives.
The mechanics aren't bad, the setting isn't bad, but D&D has never tried to be anything more than quirky nerd slop.
Play indie RPGs is you want serious stuff. Maybe even Pathfinder but it's themes will never amount to more than "D&D for contrarians"
>everyone knew D&D was slop for 30 years. not my fault you forgot
D&D is fantasy pulp, every game doesn't need to be the next Planescape. However, there is an objective bar between good writing and bad writing. Whether the story and characters are deep and poignant or simplistic and generic, good writing enhances the player experience, bad writing detracts from it. This new era of millenial-trite, the marvel-esque quips and "humorous" dialogue options is trash.
>every game doesn't need to be the next Planescape >this kills the crpggay
>there is an objective bar between good writing and bad writing
That is true. There's also situational writing to take into account.
Truth is, in no uncertain terms, D&D basically invented the quirky nerd stereotype. They were making cringeworthy slop and it's fan subculture was encouraging players to game the DM and make the characters as quirky and witty since forever, because whacky shit and torturing the DM by ruining his carefully crafted setting was always a better social experience than taking it seriously
The fact D&D didn't make a comeback sooner is actually surprising.
I can't say which is the "best" assuming you mean most money, but that black dwarf lady near the magic shop has around 14k whenever I go there which is more than enough.
Why would you bother? I had like 80k by the time I stepped into Act 3, money's worthless anyway since you will have a character with sleight of hand for chests/doors/traps and wizards rolled pickpocketing into it so you can steal everything in the game trivially easily.
Writing quality aside, what kills me about the game is how it doesn't take itself seriously for more than 5 mins, so how am I expected to take it seriously? I have zero investment in the story because of that, so I don't care what happens or what I'm doing.
what would you say is the best written vidya anon and what is the title that made you so spoiled in said department?
Not him but Planescape Torment, clearly. It's like whole another species compared to BG3 and I don't even think that BG3 has a particularly abhorrent writing either.

You are trying to force people into homosexuality, and feel no shame about it.
One post of being called a gay and the mask immediately fell off.
I thought /misc/ was made of sterner stuff.
Grooming is wrong. Get it through your thick skull.
>Republisharts are the only people supporting child marriage
That's a question you should ask yourself.
Homosexual grooming is wrong.
child marriage is wrong and shouldnt happen.
that wasnt hard to do.
now youll denounce grooming and mutilating children... right?
Sure, unless of course, you wish to define grooming as discussing the existence of gay people.
You are so blinded by your devotion to culture wars you can't appreciate quality or subtly in art at all.

False. ESL go away!

Don't worry, there is a permanent solution to the alfira problem
Alfira and her GF are unfathomably based, I won't hear a negative word spoken about them.
No negative word is needed

Which Act 3 merchant should I bother getting my attitude to max with so I can vendor all my shit to them?

welcome to western RPGs. this is what happens when women and gays take over /tg/ like they have been doing for the last 10 years

the struggle of man.
>Game has hundreds of hours of content

Why dont you lonely homosexuals just play some anime dating sim instead
the gameplay and story are shit, so thats the only thing its got going.
It's not any worse or better than DAO so it's good enough for me
>eye shadow on your dude
>yes
>yes (sarcastic)
>no (nice)
Where's the no (frick off) answer
It only shows up when "No (nice)" doesn't show up.
the biggest frick up of this game was making it turn based. The pause system of the older games was the best
the fact shadowheart is open with poly relationships speaks volumes
There is nothing wrong with the writing. I also don't understand why you would use a funny line as an example in your OP.
