After 16, I don't think the FF series can or should be saved at this point. Let it burn.

I don't think there is anything that can be done.
Entertainment as a whole is on decline as societies go down the shitter as well.
Movies, books, anime, tv shows. Doesn't matter, it all gets worse.
The past FF games were made at a particular time in a particular place.
Everything is becoming the same. On the same social media spaces consuming the same content.
Don't expect something new or challenging lol

Local AI might be the only thing that could give us entertainment. But the hour is late and they might just kill it before it reaches that stage.

drop the mandatory one year playstation exclusivity, and the one year epic exclusivity that follows. I don't know if they missed the memo, but this isn't a mainstream appeal series. It was always niche. It used to carry more prestige, which used to lead non-jrpg fans to check the games out. But we're not there anymore. Square enix has become sort of a laughingstock, and they're struggling to repair their brand image. They need to wake up before it's too late and go back to what worked for them. Everyone's waiting for homies in a row, overworld, and rpg element depth to make a return

look at how well dragon quest is doing today. If a new main series DQ game got announced tomorrow, everyone would lose their shit, and that anticipation will carry right until release. But with FFXVI, everyone was just waiting for that OH NO NO NO NO moment

This. I'm pretty sure the detractors outweigh the fans at this point.

If you're a PR person reading this you might think that's acceptable, but the next evolution of a detractor is a person who's apathetic to your brand and a lot of people are moving in that direction.

It's not bad, but it's not great. Certainly not the savior everyone was hoping it would be.

3 million is way more than I expected, that's slightly below 10% of users owning the game on a single platform.

Do you people actually believe this? People's opinions are formed, the spoilers are out, the entire story can be viewed (for free) on YouTube. Neither Xbox or PC are standing in line to save your game.

You want other platforms' support? You do simultaneous release.
Now you get 100k sales on Xbox and PC combined lifetime.

FF should have died after Spirits Within, its current existence is unnatural.

I couldn't even guess, and it's none of my business what they do with the series. I've long since wrote it off. Miss me with anything that isn't 4 homies in a line with ATB.

Just let it die man. I have given up on waiting for a faithful final fantasy game. Now it's just trend after trend. There'a nothing innovative with a hack and slash game.

      >a faithful final fantasy game
Considering how different some FF games are from each other, what does that look like to you?

    - Turn based
    - More hot girls like Tifa in skimpy bikinis
    - Actual RPG systems with party customization. If you don’t know what to do, then just copy paste the sphere grid or some fricking bullshit. It really doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it’s detailed and comprehensive
    - Get someone with talent to write the story and characters . Not sure who that is, but I don’t trust anyone in the company to do a good job including Nomura. They need an outside perspective most likely
    - Make the main character a badass with a sword. At least they got Clive’s design correct so that decision was fine. Not sure why the reviews were calling the main character generic. They probably just wanted a black troony main character or something.

Yeah, good idea. Fire your only competent businessman
      >then why didn't xvi save ff?
Because ff is a damaged brand that released on a console no one cares about. yoshi thought they could make ff good again. what they need to do is treat it like the niche series it is now.
Put yoshi and crew back on xiv to keep milking paypiggies, and give ff to interns that want to make niche games.

honestly i think they should lower the bar and make a few AA FF games. something that takes 2~3 years to make without cutting edge graphics, that doesn't try to make the entire world 1:1.

They need to stop making these games look so fricking boring - nobody cares about the bland aesthetics.
When people think of Final Fantasy they think of Cloud doing a backflip off a train in a scummy city powered by the life of the planet while holding a frick huge sword.
Then Aerith fricking dies while they try to stop a meteor from destroying the planet. You also fight a house that shoots rockets at you.

After Advent Children they took the serious part too seriously and the unserious part too unseriously. With XVI people just see some lame medieval game with giant monsters and corny ass humour.
I've never been much of a Final Fantasy superfan, but all it needs is a good story with an interesting aesthetic and the main character to do some cool shit while other people call him a loser or something.
