Doom 2016 was the magnum opus. There was nothing to improve about the formula so they made it shittier with forced platforming and ammo changes.

Really? Because for the most part I remember sprinting around and CLONKing imps in the head with a shotgun. Hard to be afraid when you have BFG with maxed out ammo, RL with 20+ rockets, Chaingun with a couple of hundred rounds, hundreds of cells…
Finaly someone else said it. DOOM 3 always felt like they wanted to get the Half Life audience.
That was the style at the time, to be fair, but Doom 3 was pretty much shameless in how they copied the opening of the game, and the disaster sequence. The pacing of the game beyond that point felt like they were trying to go for Half-Life's style, but you can only set so many scripted sidepieces in a pitch-black hallway before they all start to run together, and none of them had any sense of scale.
The graphics and sound quality were mind-blowing at the time, but the game never immersed me. It was trying so hard to scare the player 100% of the time, with every dial turned up to eleven, that it wasn't scary at all. There was zero subtlety, the game was yelling in your face non-stop
I liked Doom 3 but yeah the set pieces get tedious. The only memorable one was the hallway full of blood.

The only system shock thing it has are the keycodes and audiologs. It doesn't have the open level design or build variety that makes system shock good.
What this guy said. Doom 3 tries to imitate those games, but it doesn't have any of the things that make them good. Sometimes it copies concepts directly, like the audiologs. But it makes them as boring as humanely fricking possible, puts the code for the ammo locked at the *end* of the two-minute long monolog about UAC accounting practices, and doesn't even give you a text transcript so that you can just read the relevant information and get back to the game. It's aggressively bad, like the developers hate you
Not to mention that the Doom 3 audiologs are literally all the same. They're all some no-name office drone talking about how much it sucks to work in this space office building, and people are paranoid, and here's the code to a locker full of shotgun shells. That's every log in the fricking game. The System Shock logs followed a cast of recurring characters and told the story of what happened to them, and to the ship, over the course of your character's missing time. It was an actual narrative that was interesting to follow from the different perspectives.
Finally somebody says what I was talking about all along. That’s not even “realistic” writing, that’s just boring.

Because it is one of the most monotonous shooters ever made. It's extremely slow, extremely easy, and it has no gameplay, setpiece, or environmental creativity or variety (with the one exception of the hell levels). It tries harder than any other game I've ever played to be scary, while simultaneously being the least-scary horror game ever made.

I never thought Doom 3 was shit, even back in the day. Actually it was my main introduction to Doom. I was only 12 when Doom came out so I wasn't big into PC gaming at the time I was more a Nintendo/SEGA kid.

Age 40 Xenial here, I completed slept on 2016 and I finally got around to playing it a few months ago in PC. I thought it was very enjoyable and I loved the look and sound of it, the way you move quickly. It's a guilty pleasure with the juvenile aggressive wish fullfilmen in a good way. Not having an overwhelming nostolgia for the earlier Dooms, I liked this one as a stand-alone game.
Havn't played DE yet since it's never really on a big discount.

First phase should be fairly easy. Wait for green light and shoot him with ballista. You can do some damage to him while he’s stuck in Glory Kill mode so shoot him a couple of times wiry Lock-On Rockets or something similar and then “glory kill him”.
You can also use BFG when he summons mobs since the second phase restores all your health and ammo, including BFG ammo. Shoot the ball BEHIND him so that it hits the wall and AoE damages him.
Second phase is trickier. You have your BFG again, so use it when he summons. Shoot him with Chaingun, Lock-On Rockets, Ballista etc. when he’s exposed. The jump rope phase is a good time to really unload at him. Dodge the ropes with Air Control in the air and let it rip.
If you dont like the chainsaw, marauders, quick switch combos, weak points, limited ammo, platforming, and skippable cutscenes your bad
I didn't mind the platform sections. They're quick and just add as a little breather between fighting.
