                I don't know the difference.

                Anonymous

Wuxia is essentially martial world, as in martial arts are the predominant factor for power and influence. Xianxia is like the high fantasy version of wuxia's fantasy, where people seek immortality and cultivate insane supernatural powers. A lot of stories take place in the middle ground between them, but some have clearly defined boundaries.

                Anonymous

It's closer to Wuxia but the protagonist doesn't really fit either of the Chinese martial arts story tropes because he just wants the bullshit to end and live in peace. He is interested neither in acquiring power, nor in obtaining immortality and he actually values human life, but he gets pissed off at those that throw it away like it's something worthless even if it's their own lives when they attack him as he kills them.

                Anonymous

Wuxia is grounded in Chinese history, the time when martial arts clans, sects, and cults were the predominant powers in the country. As a genre, Wuxia basically takes the people's claims of that time as true. Qi attacks, diamond body, palm and fist attacks, 5 element qi, etc., while constraining the upper limits to what the people of that real time period claimed was possible. Wuxia also usually takes place in that time period, on actual Earth in actual China with the Shaolin, Wudao, etc. Like the other anon said, Xianxia is the high fantasy version of this. Can take place in other fictional universes, and the upper limit is being literal God with lifespans longer than stars, creating new universes, etc. Xianxia also focuses heavily on the Dao, with Daoist theory and philosophy (achieving the Dao is the source of the aforementioned godhood). A third genre is Xuanhuan, another fantasy style where they ignore Daoism and just go all in on fantasy colored with martial arts and the five elements and spirit beasts and so on, but the upper limit of power levels also tend to stay more reserved because of it.

In all seriousness standing armies are incredibly expensive, and Westeros didn't have the resources to field one, nor was the nobility inclined, much less able to pay for one through taxation.

Historically, France and England had to go through extensive wars to depopulate their nobility and centralize power. Germany famously, didn't do this until after the rise of Prussia and that's why Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland are all separate countries.

Stannis is the Creeeeeeeed of Westeros.
He was a big hypocrite with lots of blind spots when it came to his family and his legacy. he should have killed Tyrion or sent him to the wall when he was young.
The wracking up of dept also seems particularly foolish when you factor in the fact that the gold mines in Casterly Rock are empty.

IIRC in the books, he basically took his house from a joke (dad was called something like the cowardly lion) to basically what it is by the time of GoT because he was ruthless. I'm pretty sure one of the major battles he won was over some petty usury bullshit, and he basically just salted the earth to send a message. He locked a bunch of people in a mine and sealed it shut so they would die down there. The mines were what they were fighting over.

Why go through all that work when humans can just kill him? Funny enough, in D1/2 lore, demons aren't really a big threat to Sanctuary. Most regular people will get bamboozled, but if the threat ever gets big enough, all the mage clans will just unite together and fricking destroy them (again). There's a reason the emergence of humanity ended the Great Conflict. Once humans start to reach the lore equivalent of level 80 and 90, they steamroll demons. Even just one Arkaine not only pushed them off Sanctuary but then invaded Hell and massacred them until he finally died of old age. Humans were so OP their magic threatened to destroy Sanctuary from the aftershocks, so the angels used the Worldstone to fortify the barrier between realms, making it more difficult for anyone on Sanctuary to transfer mana from the Ethereal Realm. That had the consequence of all making angels and demons heavily suppressed when they appear on Sanctuary, so the newly weakened humans are still able to overcome them. Baal destroying the Worldstone only means the boxing gloves are off, so demons can manifest at full power in their true forms but humans also get their full power back.

Then D3 fricked up everything, but we don't talk about that.
