In the grand majority of video games ice powers are one of the most useful, sometimes overpowered, abilities the player can have.

What is GF's problem with ice?

GF was started by three moronic students in a basement. They don't know jack shit.

Someone explain why ice is weak to rock. Glaciers carve out mountains. If water gets into the cracks of rocks and freeze it will further erode the rock. Rock should be weak to ice.

Rock already has five weaknesses, and rocks shatter ice. Same reason why Ice is weak to Steel and Fighting as well.

Lots of things can shatter ice. But ice itself is a destructive force of nature, which erodes rock.

It used to be good for killing dragons

Ice is good in other games because freezing effects tend to be overpowered, and Pokemon's no different there, frozen is easily the most crippling status effect.
And accordingly Game Freak nerfed it way back in gen 1. Remember, Blizzard used to be 90% accuracy and in japanese versions had a 30% chance.

On its basic idea... I'm not against this. But I imagine there is an existing case that will make this ridiculous

With the addition of snow in Gen 9 to buff Ice, Bug is easily the worst type now. It's resisted by nearly half the type chart, and unlike Grass, it doesn't have any weather or terrain to boost its moves. It's pretty awful defensively as well.

Ice is a great type, it hits a lot of typical wall types super effectively. The problem is that GF balances that out by giving 9/10 ice types garbage stats, and the ones that due have nice stats get used a TON. If you designed a bug type to be GOOD in the current powercrept state of things, it'd be fricking busted and you'd have a couple thousand autists whining about it

yeah if only there was some kind of move or ability that gave ice types a universal defense buff

Ice types actually used to be pretty damn coveted, because they had an advantage over dragons. That's why most of them wouldn't become available until near the end of the game. But when Fairy came along, it was like "okay, so they're strong against Dragon and immune to it? well shit, who needs an ice type then?" but again, it wasn't always like that.

For some reasons they think freeze is broken.
    Its not.
They could just make thawing up a process like sleeping. When it takes 2-3 turns. But there are ways to speed up. Like being in sun
