    >all of that
    >Roark STILL manages to be more difficult than Roxanne
I'm an emeraldgay but having Nosepass as an ace isn't comparable to Cranidos, which doesn't even need a stab to hit like a truck

Gen 3 and 4 fire starters get fighting type on first evolution for a reason

      You haven't played these games.
Level 14 Piplup takes three hits to KO Cranidos with Bubble in Platinum, and dies to three Headbutts. And Cranidos outspeeds.
Your starter loses to Cranidos. If you go into Cranidos having already having fought Onix(which outspeed you), you die in two hits assuming Onix used anything other than Stealth Rock.
Piplup actually has a small chance of failing to KO Onix, as well. Bubble is pathetic.

Correction, your starter loses to Cranidos if it is Piplup.
Monferno evolves early and Mach Punches through the gym, and Turtwig is an easy win thansk to much better STAB and defensive stats.

Doesn't Monferno struggle against Onix though?

Even at its defensively weakest, Monferno 3HKOs Onix while getting 5HKO'd.
The combination of Onix and Cranidos can very easily overwhelm Monferno with some bad luck if you don't spam healing items, so you're right.

Also with Roxanne Treecko and Torchic both get fricked if she actually uses Rock Tomb instead of wasting turns. Even Mudkip can get into trouble because Nosepass benefits a lot more from healing items because of its low hp and high ass defense stats

Nosepass is a glorified Cascoon in single-player.

sadly emerald has dogshit ai and nosepass would unironically be better off having nothing but rock tomb

This, for some reason people always act like incomplete movesets make ai battles easier or worse. Imagine fighting Flannery without a water or rock type and she immediately uses overheat every time she sends in a new pokemon

Why does nobody understand this is literally the only reason why incomplete movesets on early trainers exist

Why did they make the Rock Gym Leader first twice in a row, and barely update them from Brock

it's to make people who pick fire starters feel like they're uphill battle hard working chads even though their starters rip through every early route trainer battle like a hot knife through butter

Roxanne is a wall to surmount - between Nosepass' hefty for early game bulk, berry and two potions her Nosepass can be tricky to take down without any plan. It also does not help that Block and speed drops from Rock Tomb are making maneuvering around it more difficult.

Roark is a bruiser - you either kill his stuff or it will kill you, especially if you let his previous mons setup SR.

Both are good enough for early game boss even if they both are doing it in completely different way. Also I find this discussion extremely disingenous, anyway - virtually EVERY DAMN ENEMY IN ANY JRPG EVER MADE becomes trivial is you have spreadsheet of stuff available to them. Assuming that you have info about both Roxanne's and Roark's Pokemon (like one that OP posted, duh) none of them should be more or less difficult because you got perfect info about their stuff and should be mentally more capable than literal drooling, brain damaged, diaper-reliant moron.

Cranidos has 125 base attack anon, surely you understand why they didn't give it stab? Its headbutt does more damage than any of Roxanne's rock throws
Also if "incomplete movesets" means no tackle and defense curl it's a good thing
    So yeah, go back shartroon

Onyx defense is pretty great. Especially against scratch and tackle. Rock leaders are jusrt a tutorial about using special moves for more damage. His only flaw is that they didn't give Onyx Roar so people get introduced to the Stealth Rocks mechanics

yeah except that cranidos is actually capable of oneshotting your pokemons even without STAB unlike roxanne's shitmons
