this is my chance to shill Fairune
Sell it to me.
it's a exploration based puzzle game, relatively simple, not something ground breaking with a deep plot but it's really fun for what it is, if you don't want to pay just pirate, more people really need to play it, specially Fairune 2.
I don't like metroidvanias or top down RPGs so indies may as well not exist to me.
Number of games that are in the OP image that aren't metroidvanias or top-down RPGs: 31. Only 8-bit Adventures 2, Blasphemous 2, Cassette Beasts, Rusted Moss and Sea of Stars hit those genres. Everything else should potentially be up your alley
>"dude, check this totally sweet DMC-like indie game!"
>It's a 2d pixel metroidvania but I'm supposed to pretend it's exactly like DMC because mashing attack executes a canned autocombo
>"dude, check this totally sweet Resident Evil-like survival horror indie game!"
>It's a 2d pixel top-down RPG maker RPG but I'm supposed to pretend it's exactly like Resident Evil because you can pick up objects to use them later
>"dude, check this totally sweet Splinter Cell-like stealth indie game!"
>It's a 2d pixel metroidvania but I'm supposed to pretend it's exactly like Splinter Cell because if you stand on black spots enemies don't attack you
Yeah, nah.
Thanks for bumping the thread with your completely incorrect shitpost I guess anon
How about you look out for games instead of being fed whatever generic metroidvania people are shilling this week?
anyone know some good doujin games?
Recently finished pseudoregalia, the platforming is amazing but the combat was really lacking
It's not new, but Super Sami Roll. It's a N64-style platformer that's a mix of Monkey Ball, Chameleon Twist, and what 3D Sonic SHOULD be. The controls are some of the best controls ever for a platformer.
I just finished the game today, 100%, with minimum S-rank on every level, playing on advanced the whole time. The game is so fricking good, with a great difficulty curve. The skill ceiling is incredibly high, and the game gets very tough later on.
Neverlooted Dungeon is the game I'm looking forward to most this year.
>Neverlooted Dungeon
>Mouse interaction like the games from Frictional Games
>Immersive sim
I'm interested
There's a demo up that the dev keeps updating. You can play it for about and hour and know exactly what kind of game it is and if you'll like it or not.
Thanks Anons, both of these look pretty interesting.
I recently found out about "We who are about to die". It's a rougelike early access pixelshit gladiatorial simulator, set in Not-Rome, where you pilot a pit fighter and have to participate in bloody matches in order to win gold and fame. The main attraction (according to the lead dev) is the physics-based combat, meaning that in order to dish out some good damage, your character will have to actually move his arms and body in a specific way so that the blade (or a blunt egde) would connect with the enemy's body at a decent speed.
Personally I liked it, however the combat system is rather ass, because often I have found myself giving a full blow to my enemy's face with a sword at mach 7 speed and dealing only 4 points of damage, whereas my enemy gently scratches my back with an axe and gives me 20 damage. Here's hoping that the dev will fix that.
man and homosexuals here complain theres nothing to play
so many incredible indie games came out this year alone its fricked
Ganker complains about AAA slop and then never plays anything else
Gotta do what you gotta do to try and fit in with what's expected of you instead of having actual opinions
>Screeches about *buzzword* ruining video games
Dredge was my favorite this year
I liked Dredge too, but fishing becomes kind of pointless in the mid to late game.
Moonleap's next on my list to play. Comfy autumn afternoon game to play outside when the rain finally stops
How did Amnesia end up being? Would be nice if Frictional did better after the weird experience that was Rebirth.
hoping yiik iv comes out OK. same for eternity egg and the tower of tears. thought pseudoregalia looked decent but instantly knew discussion of it would be impossible because of /trash/posters and i havent checked it out. void stranger seems to have attracted a similar crowd. very cool recs in this thread doe
It's a free point-and-click adventure with three parts so far, all pretty short. Story reminds me of Wheel of Time. Only downside is it's not finished yet.
Every indie game I played this year was at least slightly disappointing.
Zortch was fricking amazing. Apparently there's a standalone expansion in the works, looking forward to that more than Aftershock now.
If you haven't played it I recommend the game LAB by the same developer of Zortch. It's free. Make sure you get the 3.0 version.
https://mutantleg.itch.io/lab-v30
I did try that, I thought it was only ok, way too easy, forgettable level design. Zortch actually gives Quake and Duke Nukem 3D a run for their money in some aspects, but that game wasn't anywhere close to capturing the same fun in classic Wolfenstein.
dave the diver is not indie
I tried Gravity Circuit, hated it.
Hrot was pretty solid
Stasis Bone Totem is good
Trepang2 was kind of ass
Zortch was fun
It's not on this list but Firmament was a solid puzzle game.
>Too lazy to add more images lest he hit the image data cap
KEK You're missing 2 very important games that were memed to death on here and one good one made by African trannies, pretentious poser.
Everything besides BRCF, Blasphemous 2 and Pizza Tower look unappealing to me with Pseudoregelia being the only stand out among them that I've played which was a lot of fun.
Still waiting for Cavern of Dreams and Radio the Release Date.
Damn I got none. What a shit year
agreed, i played no good games from this year, only 5/5s I gave were: it takes two, Furi, and ori will of the wisps, all backlog games
I'm playing high on life, which is okay, but have nothing in the chamber to play next, any recommendations from anons?
>any recommendations from anons?
From the OP image Void Stanger, Pizza Tower, Killbug and Moonleap are real good. Killbug is basically a take on Devil Daggers style game. Vertigo 2 is great as well, but that's a VR game.
Will people ever realize that Ori is literally a Microsoft IP and not indie?
Ori is still a small dev indie tier game. I dunno why it triggers people so much.
Maybe the first one was made by a small (company) but Ori 2 was made by a studio up to 60 people and both games where developed under contract with Microsoft. Please stop calling Ori an indie. It's really not, it has nothing of indie.
I don't call it indie but many indie games are made by bigger studios now. It just doesn't trigger me when people mention it in indie threads. Most of these games aren't even indie because they work with huge publishers. Touch vegana
Many don't understand that the word indie has lost it's meaning and these types of games like Ori should be called AA.
Majority of people think that Ori was a cheap and amateur indie game just because it's made with unity and it's a 2D game.
While in reality it was made by experienced developers that worked with Microsoft as first party studios and lots of budget and if it was independent it would cost $60 but since it was made thanks to Microsoft which is a big corporate it's half that price.
Calling these types of games indie is simply wrong.
Exactly. Indie isn't a genre or scope, it literally means independent. If the devs own their work & IP, it's indie. People think games under Devolver aren't indie because they're a publisher, but they let the studios own their own IPs and just cut deals for funding/publishing/marketing/etc. with a cut of revenues being involved; the vast majority of things under them are indie, the only exception I can think of is when they helped with the Metal Wolf Chaos remaster.
That's the point. Ori is an intellectual property owned by Microsoft not the studios that made it. It's literally not an independent game.
So they're indie again? Lol people that are dying on this hill just gate Microsoft
They are an independent company, it's different from an indie team. They are still small but they probably found a publisher that will secure them their IP unlike when they worked with Microsoft.
They are like Bungie or insomniac before they got acquired by Sony.
Shouldn't En Garde be there? It's not like you're ignoring woke games given how Sea of Stars and Shadow Gambit are there
>no book of hours
shit list, if you liked cultist simulator's writing but didn't like the roguelite permadeath shit boh is the perfect game
chants of sennaar was excellent and a worthy entry to the obradinnlike genre, tied with boh for my goty
i wanted to like everspace 2 but it ended up feeling very repetitive and i hated the "this gun is exactly the same as the gun you already have but its name is purple so it does more damage" looter-shooter aspect
forgot to mention that the indie game i'm really looking forward to is dreamsettler
hypnospace outlaw is one of the greatest games of all time and slayers x was a fun entry in the Hypnospace Cinematic Universe but i want something with the same gameplay
I didn't play any from 2023 but I bought bomb rush. Mightbget Fading Afternoon but the dev is such an insufferable whiney russian c**t. It's hard for me to give him shekels. I'll pirate it
Vengeful Guardian moonrider looks fun
i was severely let down by it. it's way too easy.
My indie Top 5 for the year is Gravity Circuit, Your Only Move Is HUSTLE, Pizza Tower, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk & Humanity.
Other good indies I've played this year are Bat Boy, En Garde, Merchant of the Six Kingdoms (an anon made this and shilled it here, played it and gifted a copy to a friend, good job anon), MEATGRINDER, KILLBUG, Dread Templar, & Endless Monday.
>Your Only Move Is HUSTLE
It's so good
Robotchads rise up
Gunbrella has to be my biggest disappointment this year.
The umbrella mechanics could have been fantastic, for platforming and movement, also combat, but the game has such a bad execution. What a waste
>game that was being shilled on GDQ during the speed marathons
it's a curse anon, NEVER buy a game that has been advertised there. Happened to Chainsaw Club, happened to Ninja or Die, happened to Gunbrella.
>Ninja or Die
>check steam
>it has only 17 reviews
Ouch
My balls completely dropped when a female npc in the games says "i hate men"
>its been over a year
>that one guy is STILL seething about ori
I don't fricking understand why don't you just leave me alone.
DRG.
Someone was telling me they payed Deep Rock with a VR mod. If Valve announces their new headset this week I'm so fricking there
I've played it, it's in very early stages of development and the guns are hard to aim since most of them don't have iron sights.
Well that gives it more time to get better before Valve's headset comes out
Case of the Golden Idol DLCs - first one was fine, the second one is really pushing it with the autism.
Six Ages 2 Lights Going Out : liked this one better than the previous one. As usual, lots and lots of trivia and good stuff for fans of the setting - and probably zero interest if you aren’t.
Book of Hours : comfy and pressure-free CS, some nice additions to the lore. It’s the perfect game if your dream life is to read tons of occult books while rehabilitating an old house with lots of secrets and growing stuff in the garden.
>Case of the Golden Idol DLCs - first one was fine, the second one is really pushing it with the autism.
oh shit i didn't know this game got dlcs, thanks anon
Blasphemous II is great
dont even know of any other game I want to play, is there anything with a cool world to explore and good combat and builds mechanics?
false skies pretty gud. i tried sea of stars and it was a dud. i'm waiting for the final entry in a mystery VN series later this year, decide 4 god
I've posted this game on here before and now I finally released it on Steam literally just this afternoon, if you guys like linear action sidescrollers like cave story or katana zero then you should give it a try
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2371560/Alpha_Sorcerer/
>I finally released it
Is this your game? It looks cool.
thanks
>Do you like the idea of taking revenge on the corrupt tribe of sorcerer politicians who took over your kingdom and left you for dead?
Easy with the antisemitism
thanks guys
>I'm wary of Metroidvanias and games with damage numbers in real-time combat
This reminded me that somebody else on Ganker gave me that same criticism about the damage numbers a while back, at some point I might just patch in an option to turn them off
>Does it has a lot of secrets to look for ?
Not really, it's not very maze-like and most of the collectibles/buffs are hidden off in short side areas that don't deviate too far from the main path.
Looks nice, hope you get some sales
>https://store.steampowered.com/app/2371560/Alpha_Sorcerer/
Cavestoryvania looks cool man I'll wishlist this and hopefully buy it when I have the cash to drop.
I'm wary of Metroidvanias and games with damage numbers in real-time combat but this actually looks pretty slick. Wishlisted.
Hey, it looks nice !
Does it has a lot of secrets to look for ?
for me it's wall world, I expected a shit but blatant dome keeper clone but I enjoyed it, too bad that game gets way easy as you unlock more shit, it makes winning feel trivial but getting to that point in the first place is fun
I thought I'd like otherwar but that game goes from being a tower defense mixed with an easy bullet hell to basically just a bullet hell and the towers do jack shit for damage compared to you
