Well Melee on PC is free and has god tier netcode. Nintendo remakes are usually extremely low effort and considering they can't even figure out basic online play for their flagship smash game I don't see why they'd put in the effort for what would essentially be an experiment to test a market. Yeah, my main mentality is that since a later-released Melee would've already had some of the harder hitters like Diddy, Wario and King Dedede, Brawl would need to dig a bit deeper for picks, which isn't a bad thing mind you. Toon Zelda and Tetra would pretty much be a more natural evolution of a transforming Zelda (while normal Zelda is made a bit more distinct gameplay-wise from how she was in Melee).
K. Rool, Krystal, Lyn and Isaac would be characters added primarily on demand, but also to let some of these series catch up to others in character count.
Starfy and Ray would be added as characters from series that were going strong at the time Brawl would be in development. I chose the Ray from the GameCube Custom Robo, since that was the installment that came out internationally.
Pac-Man was requested to be in Brawl by Miyamoto himself, but didn't get in since Sakurai was only aware of the pizza circle design, which is something I'd definitely remedy.
Lastly you have the Mach Rider as an Ice Climbers-type inclusion, mainly on the basis that Wario, being a Melee veteran here in this hypothetical, wouldn't use his bike from WarioWare, so someone else would have to go the vehicular combat route instead.

I kinda wish Brawl got delayed to around Summer 2008. MAYBE Tetra/T. Zelda and Dixie could have been added alongside Dr. Mario and maybe Roy. Brawl's roster filled in some holes but it needed maybe one more row. I remember people expected around 50-ish characters in the playable roster.

8 player larger mode turned into 64 player Battle Royale set in huge map with major features/layouts of old maps kind of stitched together for a larger whole that loops back onto itself.
That is the way forward for Smash.
It evolves the game and satisfies everyone. Smash needs a fresh start without destroying it's heritage.
1v1 players can get a more focused smash game and it onboards the esports element that is currently on life support.
Actual changes I would want for gameplay would be a tighter camera and a game clock reduction of about 10 percent.
No one cares about larger 4+ player Smash. A battle royale mode taps into the zeitgeist in a way that other games don't have.
A large battle royale map can also be used for single player. Running missions for each character with Mario style enemies in the costumes of the player character's game origin. Or something like that.
It would be wild to see a big map with Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby and other game enemies all kind of interacting with each other in a goofy Nintendo way. Use the new Mario Wonder style and fill the game with ambience, but a chaotic ambience of all these wrong enemies butting heads with each other.

Aside of the FE guy the dlc pack is really good, but I think all of those should have been in the base game.
I think it was all shit. I vaguely remember hearing about how franchises that were already represented in Smash before wouldn't be getting new characters in Ultimate, yet Sephiroth, Pyra/Myrtha, Byleth, and Piranha Plant all got in despite the fact that;
