That's probably a flag oversight. The effect was probably intended to come back if you replay that star.

I don't think so. The whole point of the power of the stars returning to the castle is that you are removing Bowser's corruption and misuse of the stars. There are many similar effects that are also once-per-playthrough. Emptying the moat, for instance, catching MIPs the rabbit, the sunlight inside the lobby before you activate the wing cap, chasing the boo in the castle hallway, the infinite staircase etc. It is also worth mentioning that once you obtain a star, it is also gone. When you replay a level, there is only a blue shadow in its place.

Those once-per-playthrough effects you mentioned are all in the castle. That's quite different. How would you even "replay" them?

extra life locations are cool, doesn't sound that exciting but the obscure methods you have to do to get some of them to appear are really interesting

this is one of the only videos that both showcases them and explains the weirder ones. there's way more too, like if you keep killing moles it'll give you one and even play the "uncovered a secret" noise

There's the same amount of 1-ups as there are stars in the game?!?

simply is good for these, a lot of his "meme speedruns" seem like a waste of time but if you're interested in seeing rare/overlooked shit in mario 64 with your own eyes, you can learn a lot from watching him he kind of pissed away his capacity for WR at various points but he's more knowledgeable/well-rounded than other mario 64 speedrunners

I can feel the SOVL being sucked out of the game. Someone has to stop these autists.

idk some of these seem like a stretch, the "fish" looks like a bullet bill sprite and the "bully/mario" look like a piranha plant sprite, not to mention how the actual "piranha plant" is far too flat
and the cake screen is obviously prerendered, or whatever the word is, it's not just skinned over models

some of these are so mundane/self-evident. it's on the level of showing a room in big boo's haunt and writing "normally books don't move because they're inanimate objects but everything in big boo's haunt is haunted, so they are actually possessed books if you think about it"

I didn't grow up with Tomb Raider despite it being targeted exactly at me and my age range, always thought she was hot, definitely was stoked about some full page ads in vidya zines back in the day, but just never thought it looked all that fun or interesting.
I say all that to say that at no point have I ever been driven to make some homosexual, dismissive comment about Tomb Raider fans theorizing on different things related to the game. Weird.

        >WAAAAAAAAAAAAH DONT MEAN BE MEAN ON TEH GankerS
Tomb Raider gays haven't spent the last five years shitting up the internet with half baked fan theories and sperging out over irrelevant bullshit trying to make their 25 year old game seem deeper than it is.

Oh I fully understand the fun is in being shitty, which is why I called that a homosexual dismissive comment, on account of it being both homosexual and dismissive. I don't see where you're getting lost in that hole you call a mind.
          homosexual.

Nincels writing essays about Tomb Raider for some reason to deflect from normal people laughing at their autistic theorizing about visual glitches

Bitches love Nintendo more than any other domain of vidya so the Nintendo = virginity thing doesn't quite land. Just this morning I pumped 5 hot loads into my b***h while regaling her with my thesis on how SM64 resonates with people due to low poly environments void of sentient life being a somewhat accurate representation of archetypal environments in dreams. My autistic ancestors are smiling down upon me, can you say the same?
