Is he the greatest game dev ever?
>invents stamina. >invents dodge roll. >invents lock-on. >invents shortcut. >invents boss fight

You forgot about how he invented video games as a whole, anon.
Good thread
forgot invents Lovecraft
you forgot
>invents berserk
>invents taunting
>invents secrets
>invents open-world
>invents fast-travel
>invents rpg mechanics
>invents type a and type b
>invents no easy mode
>invents fromsoftware
>invented the xp loss on death but with possibility of retrieval system
>invented the single checkpoint but unlocking many shortcuts
>invented the concept of health item that replenishes at a resting place but at the cost of respawning enemies
>invented the iconic fog gate as a temporary way to block off an open level
>invented putting some of its best designed levels as optional areas hidden behind very obscure obstacles instead of handholding the player into having to consume all of the games content
>invented the ability to run past all enemies once you're familiar with the level layout, as essential to the core gameplay instead of something only speed runners would do
>invented the removing all exposition and instead conveying lore optionally via item flavor text
>invented the unique online system of players being able to leave useful messages for each other, the ability to summon but also invade, see other player ghosts deaths etc
>invented player emote gestures
>invented the jump without a jump button
>invented some unique and obscure mechanics like world tendency
>invented the cling clang cling clang cling rhythm game
>invented trap teleporting chests and surprise underground elevators
>invented the open world map where you're the one placing your own markers
>didn't invent but perfected the third person sword and shield combat with lock-on, parry, backstab and roll, using the trigger buttons to represent left and right hands organically instead of assigning attack to a face button
>invented all kinds of unique and weird mechanics that make perfect sense in game, like the concept of losing half your health bar, health bar reducing boss, trading items or advancing quests by quitting/resetting the game, dropping magic stones to mark invisible paths...
How did one man invent so many new mechanics that are all so amazing and fit together? All while nailing satisfying gameplay, level design and art direction also. What a genius man.
I 100% unironically believe he saved video games. He showed western devs that games don't have to be all dumb and handholding. Do you remember how bad things were in the 360 era? Every game series was getting dumbed down for morans, then Miyazaki showed us there could be a different way, where the game respects and challenges the player, while still making serious money. Every presentation at GDC for years couldn't help but mention Dark Souls. Hugely influential.
Souls has had very little influence on the industry. There have been a few failed clones and that's about it. Maybe in the indie space there has been a difference?
>Souls has had very little influence on the industry
Souls combat has influenced both TW3, God of War, Asscreed, and like half a billion smaller indie games. And after Elden Ring, it will only get bigger.
Souls' combat was never the reason anyone took to the series.
Youtuber opinion
TW3 is literally just a more fluid TW2. GoW yeah and Asscreed is just TW3-again. And all those indie games have been complete shit.
Gow combat inspired by re4.
Fucking fromfag cunt
Nah, GOW combat was influenced by the Last of Us, even the plot of some old man taking care of some annoying kid is the same.

https://www.cinemablend.com/games/2407111/how-the-resident-evil-franchise-inspired-the-new-god-of-war
Maybe Elden Ring selling like hotcakes will change that.
Not going to happen, since game devs don't want to make games like that. They want to make movies and time-wasters for people who hate their job.
>Souls has had very little influence on the
industry.
My brother in christ, he literally spawned a whole genre of video games
No.
cool game, but the level design doesn't hold a candle to miyazaki's work
Probably not, but that wasn't the point
This is such goofy meme forced by wrpg gays who get insecure about liking a Japanese game.
You should be posting Monster Hunter.
Why would I post MH when Severance predates it by 3 years?
Because MH influenced the entire JP industry and Severance didn't influence much.
I wasn't arguing against the influence bit, but the "spawned a whole genre of video games" bit.
If it didn't really influence anything it wasn't the one that spawned it.
"souls likes" are literally just ocarina of time but hard and gritty and OOT wasn't the first either.
"souls" is just a beat em up with an overpowered dodge
Souls influenced Zelda to back the fuck off into 2023, punk.
NOOOOOOO, Elden Ring definitely didn't scare Zelda into delaying itself! No, no, no!
I'm not even that big a fan but it is kind of awesome how Elden Ring was this giant meteor that everybody else ran the fuck away from. Except Horizon 2, god bless it.
He didn't save anything. His games are still the best adventure games on the market and no one else has taken the proper lessons of the series to make better games
I agree, except that I think that a Demon's Souls was inevitable in some way. Games were always going to bounce back from how dumbed down they were in the mid to late oughts, DeS/DkS in some sense were just the right games at the right time. It's not as though there weren't other difficult, niche titles released around then.
>t. born in 3D zoomer who didn't even start with Demon's Souls
KYS
>optional content instead of handholding the player into having to consume all of the games content
>the ability to run past all enemies to the boss, as essential to the core gameplay instead of something only speed runners would do
>lore via flavor text
>player emote gestures
>the jump without a jump button
Monster Hunter, also Zelda
>world tendency
Literally just rebranded adaptive difficulty based on how much you die.
>clang cling rhythm game
If you mean weapons having true combos and blockstrings then lol no
>single checkpoint but unlocking many shortcuts
>teleporting chests and surprise underground elevators
>open world map where you're the one placing your own markers
>losing half your health bar, health bar reducing boss, trading items or advancing quests by quitting/resetting the game, dropping magic stones to mark invisible paths...
lol no
>invented player emote gestures
/spits on you
corpse running has been around for ages
>invented the xp loss on death but with possibility of retrieval system
>invented player emote gestures
both already existed in some MMORPGs
I know you're kidding but just it case someone actually believes your bullshit
>invented the unique online system of players being able to leave useful messages for each other, the ability to summon but also invade, see other player ghosts deaths etc
Tower of Druaga inspired this in arcades. There were very obscure secrets that was only revealed through many players randomly stumbling upon them. They would leave a notebook attached to the arcade for other players to read.
He literally reinvented all of those things unironically though.
Yes, but did he invent the camera?
No, from didn't even have a decent camera until later games.
>Make decent camera for Sekiro
>Go back to garbage camera for ER
Genius!
and not a single line of code was written by him, lol
the absolute GOAT of all time
It's kind of amazing how he invented all those things and 8 games later he's still just making the exact same fucking game.
the king of kings
did you know that were no hardcore games in 2011 until this game
He invented inventing.
>invents lock-on
Zoomers need to fuck off
But he did invent medieval Europe?
>invented npcs
is there anything he can't do?
that’s the one that got you?
He invented me and I never asked for it.
He invented peanut butter too. Not morons.
>invented comfy checkpoints to regain your sanity at
el maestro del bideo...
No?
>got into videogame design because of Fumito Ueda
>makes critically acclaimed games back to back in quick succession
>ended up being one of the most if not THE most influential figure in vidya in record time
>all this while the man he used to idolize rots in obscurity and probably lives on the streets right now working on his next game on a shoestring budget
What went so right and what went so wrong?
Epic is bankrolling Ueda's next game. He's doing fine.
Ueda makes games as a passion and a calling. Miyaturd is a shrewd businessman who's milking demon's souls 13 years after he hacked it up.
>Ueda makes games as a passion
>makes games
>makes
>not made
oh wow. Do tell me what games Ueda made in the last...hm.... let me think.....how about 17 years?
you're right. he should be machinegunning a SOTC clone per annum and beg George RR Fartin to put his name on the cover of one or two of em.
That's not an argument or rebuttal you piece of shit subhuman mentally retarded moron. Don't strawman. What games did he make in the last 17 years? I mean its an easy question. He makes them with passion.
Not even worth a (You) or reading one sentence. Dismissed, and consider therapy for your anger issues.
I love medieval europe I'm his biggest fan
>invented no style
>invented no grace
>invented this kong
> Dark Souls didn't invent *lists 8 things*
Stupid cope. I've seen it before. Are you a Hollow Knight fanboy?
Souls Babbies are truly pathethic.
>invents camera
>invents OP thru his mom apparently
>sells you a gam about rolling
>sells you it for 14 years
I would criticize him but that's actually based that he built up the company by taking money from absolute fucking retards that literally worship his games and consider roll spamming peak gameplay.
He didn't invent anything, he just copied better Action games like KH and DMC, and better adventure games like Zelda and Ico. Monster Hunter did the Stamina mechanic better in the first place.
Ah yes, the first thing I think of when I played Demon's Souls as a kid was, "Holy shit, it's just like Kingdom Hearts 2!"
KH2 is a much better game so I wish. But yes, uncancelable attacks/items are taken from other ARPGs prior to Souls.
>played Demon's Souls as a kid
jesus christ, but I guess that explains a lot
So, when do I start having fun in elden ring? Don't answer, I already deleted the game. Wish my local stores weren't out of physical copies, then I could have at least sold elden ring to get some of my money back.
>invented swords shields and armor
Unfathomably based
BRAVO KOJIMA
La Creativadore
Invented the reformed rabbi bill Clinton
Why does Ganker get so fucking angry over From, Souls games, and Miyazaki? Are you just perpetually jealous of the sheer levels of success?
Fromfags are disingenuous gays
say they are hard core gamers yet got filtered by action games on hard mode and say its unfair yet praise from games unfair game design as a pinacle of game design
They deserve to get called out
Damn bro you projecting so hard you should open a movie theater.
Refute it retard moron
>Fromfags
This doesn’t even mean anything. People only kiss FROM’s ass because they’re responsible for developing one of the most influential and groundbreaking games of the last decade and have consistently been pumping out great games after that. You’re just upset because your favorite action games don’t get the same level of respect that you think they deserve.
I think fortnite is still better than soulsgames
Cool story bro. I’m sure a lot of people would agree with you, but those games are absolutely nothing alike.
Thats why its better
Glad you found a game that you like better, anon. Keep up the good work.
The games have always been “casual”.
Sounds like you have really bad taste in video games.
all true
especially with how casual the games have become
Being hardcore doesnt make it any better
Its all subjective dont get mad over it
>Its all subjective dont get mad over it
Laughin at you for having bad taste isn’t the same as being mad.
You could argue its people being hipsters over From getting more traction but people who grew up on DeS wouldnt care. Its just people bored out of their minds, constructing their entire personality out of disliking something because others do. Unless its Genshin Impact or generie /a/ recommended anime its going to be hated here.
>invents nothing
>refines goyslop
Fixed that for you
Side step dodge>dodge roll
Indeed, Miyazaki is lightyears ahead of most other devs.
They're like monkeys in the 2001 intro looking at a monolith.
lel
>invents stamina
The only thing DS invented I think was unexpected enemy telegraphs and invincible rolls
Rest was pure roguelike
It didnt invent shit
Its just marketing and people dont realky play much video games
Well obviously i didnt invent all these things seperately
You have to look at it in the context
>the online messaging and pve/pvp system
>old monk: pure creatividad, peak kojima-tier, one of the most clever boss gimmick since psycho mantis or the end
>Allant stealing YOUR LEVELS
>punishing you on death instead of making it easier for you
>true final boss being a pathetic blob instead of power creep
>boss of the most monstrous area ends up being a sympathetic person trying to help the afflicted, instead of generic evil demon, begging you to leave her alone and killing herself
>obscure shit like the hollow mage buffing yuria, disguising yourself as a fat official to gain a secret entrance, trading obscure items with the crows
>unique gimmicks like old hero being blind and being able to silence your footsteps
>human/ghost forms, world tendency, opening different areas and solving quests depending on this
>tutorial area with a boss who very likely kills you without a second try
>had to cut a whole level, but still kept its archstone to create mysterious aura surrounding it instead of just removing it (genius)
>non linear progression
>organ music getting spookier when you come back to nexus after a while
>npc merchant cursing you if you walk away while they're talking to you
>rescuing a npc should bring you a reward? instead it's fucking up your game in devious ways
>finding dead npcs including merchants in the one hub that's supposed to be your safe zone
>forgetting a shitload of stuff
>despite being this amazing ode to western fantasy and word of mouth and imports spreading like wildfire, sony refused to release it in the west
It's astounding how much he got right on the FIRST TRY. Many say DeS is just like an early prototype but shit like old monk is proof they went in with absolute confidence. Not only has the series been coasting on the same RPG system, combat animations, gear options, etc. since DeS, which you could argue are just gameplay foundations, but DeS also already had so many unique concepts and creative details.
>company makes the same game for 20 year
>finally refines it into something decent
>game is a flop in Japan, written off as kusoge at first
>perfect moment of gamers getting bored of casual AAA, wanting something challenging for a change
>becomes a phenomenon
its just lots of persistence and lucking into a trend
The creative mom
Name a 3rd person action game before Demon's/Dark Souls that had corpse running, checkpoints you have to sit down at that respawn enemies and are used for leveling up, limited healing that recharges at checkpoints and grounded, stamina based combat.
>inb4 a list of games that each have one of those things
No, gay. I'm asking you to name one that has all of those because I can name 10-20 that came after Dark Souls but I can't think of one that came before.
Stop making me want to replay DeS gays
