The emulator scene reflects the console they work on, quality libraries inspire people to try to make an emulator to run them. There is one good sony emulation scene because there also happens to be one good sony console - the psp.

There are plenty of ports and remakes. But if you look at reviews the only people who play them are people who have nostalgia from playing them growing up.
Just look at the zoombinis remake on steam.

I can only hope for a 2nd golden age of edutainment games. Considering the coof has made a whole generation of kids even more moronic, I feel like it's a slept on potential market waiting to be woken up.

If schools can afford software suites for their windows machines, there could be incentive to including edutainment games as well.

Nobody uses CDs anymore and the edutainment games that are on smart devices have to compete with the hundreds if not thousands of other games that kids actually find entertaining. I don't see a resurgence happening.

It'd be even easier to do since digital distribution has taken over the need for physical CDs. Installation is piss easy and just make the games part of the in-school class curriculum and take away the kids' phones/force them to shut them off during school time. Even back then, my own school made us turn in our flip phones to a teacher's plastic tote if the teacher was stricter and we got them back after class. On top of that, the more lax teachers still would send kids to the office if you were caught messing around with your phone during class.

There really needs to be some sort of regulation on the mobile market.
You can already see the problem if you look at those algo slop youtube videos targeted at kids.
Some of the characters make sense, like frozen, spiderman, or mario. But then they are mixed in with shit like FNAF or "scary teacher". The later should be rated T or higher by the ESRB, but digital games are exempt for some reason. Probably because boomers have lead for brains and don't realize whats actually happening to their gen alpha grandkids.

I mean when we were growing up there were regulations and laws against that shit. I couldn't just walk into toys r us and get conkers bad fur day because it had a cute animal on the cover. Thats what shit like the ESRB is supposed to be there for, but mobile games get to just avoid it so apple and google can rake in more money from all the slop on their stores.

Plz understand, we needed more budget for holocaust class and for grooming campaigns. Besides, no one needs cooking nor art when you can just order food and have AI make art.
