Emulators have been around for a long time, yes but that doesn't mean things can't change as they become more popular. After all this is just bringing more attention to the fact that they're being used exclusively for piracy.

how is playing pokemon yellow piracy when it's no longer for sale anywhere by nintendo, not including second hand? that whole shit with yuzu or whatever was because they were emulating a console and games that are still for sale. that's whats gonna frick it for everyone

            Anonymous

It's not about the product being sold, it's about the product being illegally distributed since that's copyright infringement, after all just because the game isn't being sold doesn't mean that the IP isn't in use. Anyway, the more that happens is the more likely governments are going to crack down on it and the single most idiotic and loudmouthed people have just gotten their hands on an emulator and the first thing they do is spam it on twitter.

iOS is heavily locked down and you can't load custom stuff on it as easily as you can on an Android phone.

On Android, you can just look up *emulator_name*.apk, download it and boom, it works. This is possible for a normalBlack person to comprehend.

On iOS, you'd have to connect it to a Mac PC and then upload it from there to the phone (maybe, idk if that would really work). But even that is too much for a normalBlack person to handle.

        lol no moron.
you just hook it to any pc and sideload it. The problem is that it only works for a week before you have to basically update a license on the app.
        t. had an iphone for like a year and traded that piece of shit to some moronic woman for a nice android. I didn't even use emulators on it, but I did have to sideload an app just to fricking torrent.

Now I can play emulators on a shitty touch screen if i want, torrent, install way more useful shit, and I have an app that can enable tethering even though my homosexual service provider wants to charge more money just to do let me do it.

The only reason to have an iphone is if you have a very important job and never install anything on it for fun, and even then it's not THAT secure anyway so it's kind of pointless.

You can do "phone things" on mid-range Android phones from half a decade ago, even today. The only reason I upgraded from my phone from 2017 is because it was literally falling apart and the battery didn't even last a whole day.

Not him, but they were always good at building their ecosystem. How their devices interact with one another seamlessly, airplay between their watch, computer, earbuds, and phone. Social apps are more optimized on iPhones (which normies care about), iMessage, etc. There's also stuff like crash detection which is pretty impactful if you're in a car accident.

Apple India is set to clock over Rs 70,000 crore revenue in the fiscal year ending March, becoming the second electronics brand to achieve this milestone after South Korean rival Samsung.

According to two industry executives, Apple India went past the $8 billion (Rs 66,000 crore) sales milestone in February. This will be the second consecutive year in which sales at the iPhone maker have grown over 40%, they said.

Ported all their *old* games. Obviously there's no reason to port Switch games as long as the Switch is being produced. Selling ports > having them be played for free through emulation, I'm sure you'll agree

I mean the obvious issue with that is their games sort of suck and wouldn't really sell except for nintendo double dipping. Nearly everyone that actually does emulate nintendo games tend to already be a pretty heavy nintendo fanboy and buy all of their shit.
It's kind of like how every Steam Deck thread has that weirdo that shrieks at people that they "bought a deck to play switch games" even though you can look at the most played games on the Steam deck and a lot of them are pretty firmly out of "Nintendo-y" type games.

Anon, you're saying Nintendo games are shit and wouldn't sell if they're ported but have this ridiculously stupid idea that emulators are made only for fans. Like the other anon said, Nintendo emulators wouldn't exist if that were the case especially for the switch since that was hackable day one fans would have just done that instead of feeding into a shitty patreon.
The reality is that emulators exist because there's a demand for them to be ported to an audience who either can't or won't buy a Nintendo system and that's also where Demon's Souls comes in because it was the same thing.
Sonygays are staunchly against emulators that aren't made by their corporate overlords and shat on Rpcs3 like there was no tomorrow, but according to you Demon's Souls is a shitty game only sonygays would want to play so they made it even though they have the systems to play it anyway.

Your logic makes absolutely no sense at all and that's why you're currently being shat on because your post just reeks of someone who hates Nintendo just because of some kind of irrational bias.

Also there's a difference between saying a game is bad and not liking it. I don't particularly like Mario Odyssey but I'm not going to call it a bad game.

They're much more locked down than any Android device, and applegays have always overpaid for less features. Christ you can't even stick a basic sd card in them for more storage without paying hundreds more for a basic feature, and the company has always prided itself on removing basic features like removing disc drives or the headphone jack as innovation

In addition, the advent of the iphone in 2007 was the final death kneel of the old internet the flood of normalgays was so damaging

Be glad you know how anything works. Schools in general are undoing a huge teaching crisis at the moment.

It's fricking nuts, when I was a coding instructor out of university, the curriculum for this after school program included nothing on the topic of file directories and zipping files. Bear in mind this was K-12, but the company I worked with pushed towards crappy non-git based online repos that have minimal need to manage files instead of running code locally on their machines. In a class of 30 something kids, only 2 really gave a shit and the others could barely comprehend variables in the span of like 4 weeks. It sucks because I want the youngins to be more tech-literate but I can't help them if they can't help themselves.

Its still ultimately the schools who are to blame.
When you and I were growing up we had computer classes where you learned to do basic things like type and save data to a floppy disk.
Zoomers and alphas never had that, schools cut those classes assuming they were no longer needed since those generation are "digital natives" as they call them.
This is obviously bullshit, modern cell phones are so locked down you can't do anything on them unless you root them. But stupid boomers running the country don't know that, they just see zoomers on their cell phones getting brainrot from tiktok and assume that means they know how to work computers.

          >schools cut those classes assuming they were no longer needed since those generation are "digital natives" as they call them
It's so stupid. Using a tool vs. understanding how the tool is designed are two separate things, so I can't believe this generation of school admins have this kind of reductionism in learning. A layman who drives a car is not "car-literate" compared to a mechanic, yet a vast number of people own cars without ever knowing how to fix things themselves. In turn, mechanics have free reign to scam the frick out of these same people and overcharge on simple things like changing oil, windshield wiper fluid, or other shit that you can DIY. No wonder Apple can push around its proprietary nonsense and charge a fricking mint for it because of the hubris of some old out-of-touch farts.

wtf are you saying, this is a problem with alphas, as a zoomer I had computer science classes, and we learn a lot

I'd say the distinction between tech literacy is more pre-2000s and post-2000s than it is anything else. It's around 2007 that mobile phones started being treated as the default way to use computer technology, forever poisoning informatics as a whole. You'd have to be at least 7 to remember the pre-mobilegay world and hence to have some informatics teaching passed down to you.

I'm phoneposting on the shitter now, for sure, but it blows my mind that kids today just... don't have computers. That's nuts. The phone internet experience is trash.

If schools can afford software suites for their windows machines, there could be incentive to including edutainment games as well.

Nobody uses CDs anymore and the edutainment games that are on smart devices have to compete with the hundreds if not thousands of other games that kids actually find entertaining. I don't see a resurgence happening.

It'd be even easier to do since digital distribution has taken over the need for physical CDs. Installation is piss easy and just make the games part of the in-school class curriculum and take away the kids' phones/force them to shut them off during school time. Even back then, my own school made us turn in our flip phones to a teacher's plastic tote if the teacher was stricter and we got them back after class. On top of that, the more lax teachers still would send kids to the office if you were caught messing around with your phone during class.

There really needs to be some sort of regulation on the mobile market.
You can already see the problem if you look at those algo slop youtube videos targeted at kids.
Some of the characters make sense, like frozen, spiderman, or mario. But then they are mixed in with shit like FNAF or "scary teacher". The later should be rated T or higher by the ESRB, but digital games are exempt for some reason. Probably because boomers have lead for brains and don't realize whats actually happening to their gen alpha grandkids.

I mean when we were growing up there were regulations and laws against that shit. I couldn't just walk into toys r us and get conkers bad fur day because it had a cute animal on the cover. Thats what shit like the ESRB is supposed to be there for, but mobile games get to just avoid it so apple and google can rake in more money from all the slop on their stores.

Is this the same logic they used to cut classes like cooking or driving?

            Anonymous

They are surprisingly more honest when talking about classes like cooking or arts, by just saying its budget reasons.
Computer classes were also likely cut for budget most the time. But this "digital native" buzzword also resulted in some schools that didn't have the budget concerns cutting the class as well. Because why would we need the class if all the kids just magically know how to use computers anyways?

I fricking hate this fricking modern world. everything has to be cut down for "budgets" to appeal to shareholders and show that you are growing. I hate shareholder capitalism.

It's only going to get worse. "No child left behind" is resulting in kids being passed up who don't even know how to spell their names, let alone solve math problems.
Even if laws got passed today there would be a huge competency crisis in the next decade from this, but boomers cba to fix it because they'll all be dead in 20 years anyways. You and I are the ones who will have to deal with it.

      I'm technically a zoomer(born in 1997) and I've been emulating since 2008.

Pre-9/11 2001let here, using the family PC was one of the first things I learned. I was playing flash games and downloading roms all the time on emulators before I even turned 10. I didn't even have a phone until 2016 or so because I didn't want to become an antisocial loser and actively stayed away from getting one, but ultimately society has normalized using phones 24/7. Most people my age don't even talk to eachother at work anymore, they only sit on their phones until the lunch break is over except for the older boomers who have higher roles and do actually talk with other people their age. Too bad none of my interests line up with them. I miss the old days.

No, because the legality of those isn't ironclad yet.
Emulators have a long record in court that companies can point to if they get a DMCA.
Decomps *should* be legal, since they don't contain the games assets, but it hasn't been proven in court. None of these big store fronts care enough to go to court over it either, so they just avoid them entirely.
Android doesn't have this issue since you can sideload whatever you want anyways.

Nope. Apple still prohibits self modifying code, which means no dynamic recompilation/JITs, which means no emulators for modern systems.

I wish linux would stop being so fricking stubborn about the terminal, its never going to see widespread adoption at this rate. Windows and Mac figured this out decades ago, and hide their terminals for only the most tech savvy users to utilize.

        Anonymous

well that's not the fault of Linux. that's the fault of dumbing everything down and pushing ultra-moronic normies into using PCs. I agree that Linux should be more user friendly and have a proper GUI (I think Cinnamon is good), but I also think users should've be put off by the terminal. there's a lot of things that are easier on the terminal than on a GUI

The terminal will never see widespread adoption. Its hard enough for somebody like my dad to open his emails in windows, and he's a smart guy with other stuff.
That's just the level of tech illiteracy people have. Gen X/Y are the only generations in the history of the planet that aren't like that. Zoomers, boomers, and eventually alphas just straight up can't handle something like a command prompt or terminal. Trying to force them to clearly doesn't work either, they'll gladly pick the walled garden if its easier. Even if they probably shouldn't.
