Iron sights in vidya are garbage, including in "realistic" shooters, because this is not what looking through iron sights looks like. Your brain is not rendering all of that bulk.

what
Your right eye is seeing the front sight post
Your left eye is seeing around the rifle
Your brain combines the two images in a way that gives you the best clarity and situational awareness
Only VR can emulate that. Normal games render from a single camera viewpoint.
just make the ironsights transparent and it should be fine
Or you could just semi-transparent the gun and call it a day.
wrong
your brain focuses on the desired object using the preferred eye
also irl one normally closes their unused eye to aid in focusing the intended eye
Exactly.
closing one eye is a bad habit and only done in movies
>also irl one normally closes their unused eye to aid in focusing the intended eye
nogunz
Closing one eye hasn’t been done since the ‘80s. Everyone shoots with both eyes open, whether it’s a rifle or pistol, scope or iron sights. There are no benefits to closing one eye, and tons of benefits to having both open.
>irl one normally closes their unused eye to aid in focusing the intended eye
Go back to basic instructions
>irl one normally closes their unused eye to aid in focusing the intended eye
that doesn't help even in VR
it's a lot easier for your eyes to triangulate when it has 2 different points to work with
>close one eye while shooting
You have no idea what you are talking about, subhuman eurotrash filth
Hey dipshit, when you're using ironsights YOUR brain is not focusing on that bulk either.
Depth of Field is a dumb ass pointless effect in vidya.
I'm not either when I aim so it all balances out.
I only ever hipfire like an African soldier in a bush war
but its fun
keep your realism out of my balance choices
It’s not about balancing, it just makes iron sights in games less obscuring. When rear sights have thin apertures, they don’t block your vision when you have both eyes opened.
What do you mean OP I see nothing wrong here.
here's what it looks like irl for any non-americans in the thread
if that's what you see when you look down a gun's sights, you need to see an eye doctor immediately
that's also what it looks like hwen I look at the crosshair on
You've never been in the room with a gun, let alone held one. Frick off and never post again.
I dont see that when I use irons irl
unironically its kinda like conflict: vietnam
its like a hazy low resolution sprite blurry out of focus rear and front as you focus on the target
>Maps in vidya are garbage, including in "realistic" shooters, because this is not what reading maps looks like. Your brain is not rendering all of that bulk.
Far Cry 2 was kino
It exists to force you to become more vulnerable while shooting by slowing your movement if you want precision.
It isn't there in multiplayer shooters for realism.
I never really understood why people complain about sights in games until I used the reflex sight in Alyx, super cool how that effect works in VR
just don't render that model in your head too you doofus
>when something makes the game harder and not realistic it's bad
>when something makes the game harder but it's realistic it's also bad
hmmm
OP is a moron but is partly correct. The hard part of depicting iron sights in vidya is simulating the different focal planes. When you aim at a target using irons you are simultaneously juggling 3 focal planes. The rear sight, the front sight, and the target. Your eyes can ever only focus on 1 at a time and it should be the target. That is why the front and rear sights should "fuzz out" when the game renders this phenomenon correctly.
This is a long way to say that a game on a 2d screen can never correctly simulate the act of utilizing iron sights. I don't know enough about VR but I would be impressed if they could code focal plane limitations into the display as it is unique to to the lens of the human eye as far as that is concerned.
Red dot sights are a whole other issue, but do simplify things quite a bit.
But you don't focus on the iron sights on the screen either. Why artificially recreate a focusing effect that you already naturally do?
all that not having focal planes does in VR is make everything have the same focus as 2 meters irl and give you eye strain
>When you aim at a target using irons you are simultaneously juggling 3 focal planes. The rear sight, the front sight, and the target
You are only supposed to focus on the front post while looking at the target, the target and rear sight should be blurry while the front post is clear.
correct, but there are three planes in play you should only be focusing on the front post. apologizes for mis speaking about the basics, its been a long weekend anon thank you for fact checking me.
You're a gay if you use optics, unless it's r6.
>game with bullets flying out of the sight
ironsights aren't the biggest problem of this piece of shit
You've never fired a real weapon in your life.
as an admitted Luddite, irons are only a real thing for poors and Russians at this point. Optics in games really side step this whole issue. Especially in VR
