Meme.
4k UHD or 1080p 240Hz
This. 4k is a meme if your screen isn't a TV, less than 30cm from your face or anything smaller than 27in.
1440p is only worthwhile if you have a large screen but your screen is still close to you.
4k is fine for tvs.
>1440p is only worthwhile if you have a large screen but your screen is still close to you.
so 90% of PC users? how are you calling this a meme and agreeing it's a meme? moron
>This. 4k is a meme if your screen isn't a TV, less than 30cm from your face
Isn't it the other way around? The greater the distance, the less resolution and fine details matter. You wouldn't notice aliasing jaggies on a TV across the room that much, but you do notice them very obviously on a monitor on your desk. That's why higher resolution makes more sense on a monitor in front of your face than a TV on the other side of the room.
The other argument is the content. Next to no content exists in 4k for TVs, but video games are rendered live for your specific resolution.
It's like marketing for high res TVs has fricked up people's ability to analyze such things.
4k movies are in abundance.
if you can get >100fps in everything at 4k then by all means, otherwise its better to stay at 1440p.
4K monitors are a fricking meme.
Not at all. You'll notice a bigger difference going from 1080 to 2k as opposed to going from 2k to 4k.
If your screen isn't at least ~30 inches 4k is a complete meme and waste of resources.
1080p IS 2k, moron
1440p is commonly refered to as 2k good sir.
By opportunistic marketers, and you are falling for their ploy.
It's just like how PowerPoint became a synonym for slideshow presentations.
How is marketing your screen resolution as lower than it actually is a marketing ploy now?
Because we are trained to recognize the vertical resolution of 1080p, 2K sounds like a bigger leap than 1440p. Same reason why 4K was marketed over 2160p.
At least 4K is actually somewhat accurate.
>4k
>accurate
>it's not 4000 pixels high
>it's not 4000 pixels wide
it's a scam in many ways.
It’s how many pixels are in an inch-square area of the screen
Because it sounds half as good as 4k. Literally designed for poorgays who can't buy a cheap 4k set up or a quality 1080p set up.
oh and no it's not 2k it's 1.92k
Closer to 2k than 2560k, moron
still not 2k
It is 2k by every logic you can think of.
If 2160p is 4k then 1080p is 2k
k is determined by horizontal pixels bro
p from vertical
Read the reply chain you absolute midwit
"TWO thousand five hundred and sixty"
"ONE thousand nine hundred and twenty"
4k = slightly less than 4000 (3840)
2k = slightly less than 2000 (2560???)
1440p is 2.5k.
You're the reason everything costs -0.01 less, to trick morons into thinking they pay 1 $/€/£ less than they actually do
And 4k....is 3840
80 away vs 160, percent wise it's exactly the same to 2k as 3840 is to 4k
Good thing those two tend to correlate.
Based pedant.
depends on desired screen size
4k is the meme
I definitely noticed a difference when going to 1440p from 1080p. 4K is really still best for movies and not video games right now in my opinion.
Here, I made a comparison just for you.
https://imgsli.com/MTQ5ODcw
You decide.
imagine gaming in lower resolutions than current gen consoles
lol Gankeredditors never cease to surprise me
It's a good compromise, but you can't call anyone else a poorgay if you use it
There's literally no hardware on the market that does 4k 120fps.
i'm literally using a 4K 240hz monitor right now
Larger than 44 inches? I wish I could have all 3, but it seems like all 3 is 2000 dollars or more. Big screen, 4k, 120+Hz most can only pick 2 out of the 3. Most scale back, get only 1440p and tiny screen but 120+Hz , or 4k and big screen but 60Hz, or big screen 120hz and its cheap but its only 1080p. You cant win man. Unless you pay through the roof for all 3.
why would i want a monitor that big on my desk? I have a 65" OLED for watching movies, a monitor should be no bigger than 32"
Shoot yeah, well you got 2/3 2/4 if we consider price. Pretty close. Im just done with being surrounded by single purpose screens because its too expensive to meet all 3 criteria at once.
Using a 4k 144hz monitor and some stuff runs at full fps on my setup. Everything else gets 60 or higher still.
I have a 4k tv bruh. I can't tell the difference between 1440p or 4k
Because you bought something far too small for the space. In a living room, 80" is the minimum size for 4k.
it's a 55 inch tv, and I'm sitting 2 feet away from it
I have a 55" monitor, and I can see the difference.
>4k in 27"
What do you want? A desktop for ants?
>4k in optimal 32"
Why are you using a TV for a monitor, dumbass?
>4k in 72"+ or projector
How small is your dick, richboi?
>4k <26"
WHAT ARE YOU DOING SON?
>What do you want? A desktop for ants?
Just you 200% scaling. Done.
Fall for the 1440p meme and you ACTUALLY need to use broken fractional scaling with 125% kek
>4Kgay calling 1440p a meme
lol
If you don't have a 4090 and a 120hz+ 4K VRR monitor then you need to shut your fricking mouth
>waaaaah
Poorgay
You don't have to set everything on ultra you know
4k is neato mosquito on my 55" monitor.
27" 1440p is the ideal monitor size
4k is for your TV
1440@144+hz on a 27 inch screen
4k is prohibitively expensive both for the hardware to run it at a good frame rate and a good non-tv display to stare at. Better to spend excess cash on a quality 1440p monitor than a cheap 4k.
1440/165 is the new 1080/60
If you are below it, you're a poor/consolegay
If you are above it, you're a consooomer
Okay poorgay.
t. consolepleb in <60 fps
The human wallet cant see further than *checks back of monitor* HDR 2k 165hz.
i have a lg 1440p 32", its great.
>32"
shit PPI
it was the same ppi as my 24" 1080p display i upgraded from, made no difference to me.
1080p. it is just about indistinguishable from 1440p on a <27" inch monitor and you'll be set for the next few years with a 1080ti or 2070 super.
See an optometrist

im looking for new one but homosexuals dont make any
4.5 inch wiener. It is just about indistinguishable from a 8 inch wiener on a <6 ft woman
I went from 4k to 3440x1440
4k is better for gaming
A proper 4k IPS monitor has great clarity that makes 1440p seem blurry.
I was also a really early adopter of 4k, I had it back in 2014.
I still would recommend 1440p ultrawide overall though.
its the nextgen 720p jump from 480p. The same way 720 folk said they couldnt tell 720 to 1080, we're getting repeats of "and honestly 4k doesnt seem that great to me". I know people IRL who give me "the human eye speech, but now its 60fps". Its great fortune that the human eye can only see specifically what the monitors of today or yesterday can manufacture. Its also pretty lucky that human eyesight evolves at the speed of affordable television or monitor resolutions available in their market. Im not even sure if 240hz is enough yet because Ive yet to see 8k 120 or 240hz 4k or 360hz 1080p. Only once in my life have I seen above 60hz on a monitor and I couldnt exactly document every moment without asking for a framecounter. For now I know OLED cannot fix burn-in, only slow it, and I know 4k is 4x above 1080p and I can tell the second I need more FPS in 4k gaming.
Put simply, if you do 1440p, eventually you'll be doing 4k when everyone decides the human eye can affor- can see see up to 4k 120hz monitors. My human wallet can only see a 400 dollar display that doesnt step down from 4k to give me more frames. No more concessions for individual gimmicks, full technological convergence until I grow 2 more brains and two more sets of eyes.
I've upgraded from 1080 to 1440 to 4k and I use my old monitors as side monitors. I can't tell the difference from 1440 and 4k. I ended up using the 4k as a side one to get extra frames.
I game in 1080p, shitpost in 1440p and watch anime in 4k.
High refresh rates are overrated and non sustainable in new games and they require keep upgrading the CPU more than GPU
inb4 "new games are shit" cope
Okay poorgay.
Show me Elden Ring at 144fps
Devs being lazy =/= Non sustainable
>Devs being lazy
Cope, you know they're going to be like that for the rest of the generation, if Gotham Knights and Plague Tale, the first 9th gen only titles, are to prove anything.
Until recently you were somewhat lucky that 8th gen consoles used tablet CPUs, and even then, games weren't consistent with CPU performance, especially after they started putting multiple layers of DRM
>Cope
>implying it takes any fricking effort to patch the game to 144hz
>b-but muh online
unless you're a coopgay or god forbid a PVP player you're missing out on nothing
>unless you're a coopgay or god forbid a PVP player you're missing out on nothing
>unless you enjoy playing the game you're missing out on nothing
literally have a nice day. i'm not saying you need to learn to hardswap weapons and go invade, but if you purposely never summon(for people)/read msgs/invade just to engage with the mechanics, you're a bit moronic and missing out on what makes these games unique. there's other games that offer the experience you want if it's an offline RPG, it's so boring to come to fricking souls for that.
I had an insane high end 27" 4k monitor, and I moved to 3440x1440. The impact is pretty small, but even at 27" you can tell in an instant.
I like 1440p better since it doesnt push your gpu that hard. Playing pretty games maxed out at 144fps and up whilst your gpu is dead silent is really nice.
I am on a 7900XTX so if I want 4k I can hook it up to my oled, but for desk use 1440p is good enough.
1080p is a fricking joke tho.
Also great hdr>>
res
meme. go 4k 144hz. you can enjoy 4k content too
regards used 1080p,1440p and now 4k
Both 1440p and 4k are a meme. Also OLED and HDR are a meme. Save your money for when these techs are cheaper and also when there are games even worth playing above 1080p.
If you truly need a monitor right now and you have anything less than a 4090 you should probably go for 1440p/144hz+ monitor. Even if you had a 4090 you'll probably be paying another $600-$1000 for a 4k monitor which properly matches its performance.
If you can wait another GPU generation or two, 4k will likely have started becoming the standard and it's going to stay that way for a long time because of the amount of content designed specifically around 4k. The exception is if you're doing """esports""" , in which case you'll probably still want 1440p or even 1080p at 240hz+ for an extra few years.
Basically, despite being optimal right this moment, 1440p is going to be in an awkward position in a year or two and if you're a richgay with deep pockets this generation is the first time going to 4k/144hz makes sense.
eh i've been using 4k144 on a 3080 and there's no issues, nobody cares about playing forspoken or other unoptimized AAA garbage at max settings
1440p is nice. I won't go 4K until 4K Ultrawide is more affordable and common.
27-32", get 1440p. Anything higher, go for 4K.
1440p introduces scaling issues because most content was designed for 1080p and 1440p isn't an exact multiple. 4K is just 4x 1080p so everything scales perfectly.
>1440p
>27"
>gsync
>4ft viewing distance
Yup, I'm gaming. Nothing beats this combo for visual and framerate.
Both 1440p and 4K are a meme
For me, it's 24" monitor
So that means 1080p, unless there is a 24" 1440p monitor I am unaware of.
there should be, I'm fairly sure I even spotted 24" 4K monitors while browsing the shop, but the usefulness is silly
4k is a massive gamechanger, assuming you understand the base concept of computing and stick to God's chosen PPI. 1440p was alright a decade ago if you needed something a little bigger than 1080p, but at this point it's a complete joke and the money you spend on a 1440p screen would be better spent on 4k.
I miss my desk 4k setup, so much room, why people still choose stamps when they can have big screen 4k is just baffling. Its so good. Sadly the 4k is a couch tv now. Need a second one before inflation gets worse. It was like bezzleless monitors glued together.
Why would you put 4k in the living room? 4k video is an absolute meme, there's no appreciable difference between 4k and 1080p. And even worse, you need an 80" 4k screen to even notice the minor differences. Consoles can't even put out 4k.
Just get a cheap 40" 1080p screen for the morons.
Browsing on 1440p is a fricking cancer
>100%
>text are too small
>130%
>blur pictures
Get a fricking 4k so you can 2x everything without bluring
get your eyesight in check
4k under 48" is a 100% meme. I have one. 1440p is superior.
had x2 32" 1440p, switched to 32" 1440p + 50" 4K no regrets, 90ppi is ideal for 100% scaling
1440p is the max reasonable size to use without DPI scaling.
stay at 1080p 60fps, anything else is pure consoomer bullshit
poorgay cope
You can't run full time path tracing on most games without DLSS at 4k even with a 4090 so no it's not a meme and yes full time path tracing is absolutely worth it, it's the biggest graphical advancement in ages.
ah yes, those 2 shitty games with path tracing means you NEED a 4090 for 1080p
lmao
Both are a meme.
i play on 1024x768 on a CRT. resolution is a meme
Frame rate matters more than resolution.
I have 1440p 144hz IPS. I turn down all the options to get higher framerate.
lg c2 42'' chad reporting in
1440p 144hz on a 27' display is the sweet spot for gaming imo. It's a tangible upgrade over 1080p without being taxing like 4K. There's nothing wrong with 1080p either, especially on smaller displays. Pixel density is more important the resolution and the size of your display should be the determining factor for what resolution you choose. This is why there's so much debate on whether higher resolutions even make a difference or not. The moron on the 24" is going to think 1080p looks crisp and there's no need to upgrade, he's right. 1080p on a 24" looks fine due to the high pixel density. But the other moron on the 27" display will notice how crusty 1080p is and will definitely notice the jump to 1440p. And then they argue about it because they're both morons.
Just follow this:
>under 27": 1080p
>over 27": 1440p
>32" or bigger: 4k.
Not upgrading from 1080p until 4k and that shit is ridiculously expensive right now so I'm in no rush
straight to 4k if you can afford it. aside from the objectively better picture, it'll last longer and 4k displays also downscale to 1080p better for when you want to pretend you're an e-sports player and need 144fps.
The only way you're getting 4k/144hz is if you have a 4090.
If you stop playing garbage, you can easily get 4k/144hz out of decade old hardware.
>want to go 4k but I play FPS
>could get a 1080p 240hz and a 4k monitor but I heard it syncs the refresh rate to your lowest hz monitor
Is it true?
These are just resolutions. Just pick what you want.
The only time it becomes a meme is when you pick something that isn't supported by a lot of games like that time period where a bunch of homosexuals had to constantly ask for UWHD support.
1440p144 is sweet spot
Asian Kornheiser?
no, 4k is the meme. you can't see over 1440p on a 27 inch monitor or lower
>on a 27 inch monitor or lower
There's your problem, poorgay.
anything above 27 inches is too big for desk use
See
They finally have 40-42 inch 4k monitors. I want real estate with reasonable pixel density.
4K is the meme. 1440p is good enough for anything smaller than 28"

27 inches 1440p is literally the perfect monitor. You don't need more.
4k is for televisions.
Constantly, while using my dual 24" 1080p setup, would I have issues where I needed more vertical space, more horizontal space, or had to deal with content that flip flopped between them in a way that didn't allow me to just swap screens every 2 seconds.
4k totally replaced my existing setup. I still have the extra monitors, I don't even have them plugged in because they're superfluous and far too small. 27" would've been a slight upgrade that solved none of my problems and still required me to buy 2 screens, 43" was the only option.
Whatever is it currently available on gaming oriented OLED monitors that are coming out at the moment
Mass Effect running smooth as silk at 4k maxed out. Camera and lighting are ass. Deal with it.
been playing in 1440p since 2012, i don't understand why people talk about it now
1440p is the new 1080p
like going from 360 to 1080p. can usually disable aa for free fps, 2x usually more than enough
>Buy 4k 24" monitor
>Downscale it to 1080p in games
>Crisp and no need for AA as resolution takes care of the quality and detail
>Fast fps
Your move. I don't own a 4k monitor
I still playing everything to 1080.
4k (UHD) is 3840 x 2160 in 16:9, or a 8,294,40 pixels. Over 4x 1080p.
I cant imagine if people have a giant screen for see the same garbage
>Over 4x 1080p
Exactly 4x 1080p
How are the old games on 1440p? Do widescreen patches work for them in the same way like for 1080p?
I played a lot of old games totally fine in QHD and all of them looked gorgeous, like Need for Speed Underground 1 with the widescreen patch, Unreal Tournament 99, UT 2004. It's easy to run in 1080P without it being an eyesore too.
>Is 1440p a meme or should I go straight into 4K?
Will you go for 1440p if it turns out that 1440p is a meme?

You're a homosexual. You know that, right? Everything runs great native now.
