Is?

Is /tg/ a good place to recruit players? I want to run something but all my friends work retail with flexible schedules and my college's d&d group literally only wants 5th edition d&d, people aren't interested in anything else.

So, /tg/, how do you find good players on this board?

You technically can. We used to have gamefinder threads. But look at this board. Do you really want these people as your players?

I kinda want a tg DM for an oneshot.
Or better yet have one of the people that hate dnd intensely teach me a better system

        >Or better yet have one of the people that hate dnd intensely teach me a better system
Last time I did threads on this loose premise they went pretty well.
Ultimately I think there's more reasonable people on /tg/ than we might assume. Several of my players, or people I know that play, I met on Ganker in general and they're all perfectly reasonable.

You don't need to wait for other people to validate you. D&D is fricking garbage and the sooner you unlearn all the toxic habits you've picked up from it, the better. Like other poisonous addictions, the best method is cold turkey. Just stop fricking using D&D. Just fricking stop. Seriously. Need a dungeonpunk-styled replacement? Use GURPS Dungeon Fantasy.

My university has 2 tabetop game groups, and both have fliers around the campus. I'm tempted to go one of them, since I have similar problem. My friends aren't eager to try anything new.

The meetup website can work, and other sites like it. You can also put out classifieds or something. The way I used to do it is actually go to game stores and socialize with the regulars until I actually know them and can organize a game that way.

I'm in two games with /tg/ people at the moment. The GMs are okay, not the worst, but with a bit more ego than I'd like and a lot of arbitrary but extremely strong opinions on gaming. I'd rather recruit players from here than GMs.

There's a game I enjoy that is very niche that I'd like to play and need new players. I've never been to a table top gaming store and have no idea how those places operate. Do you just sit down at the tables and start playing? Do you typically pay a fee to use a table? I was thinking of posting on meet-up or my cities reddit and trying to get a few people to meet up and play but I really have no idea how or where to go about it. I also considered showing up to my libraries game night and trying to rope people into playing this game.

If anyone's interested I can link a pdf of the game. It's ideal to play in person but people have played one before but that's really suboptimal.

I used to trawl /tg/ for players, but the last time, we picked up a stalker who plagued the forum until it collapsed, with all the games we played, and the community.
Frick you, Nekohime, you fricking sociopathic alt-right shitlord. If you wanted to play with us so bad, would it have killed you to stop pretending to be Japanese, female, lesbian, a furry, a spy, dying, and an MMA fighter IRL long enough to put some effort into your fricking actual roleplay long enough to actually interact with us and the GM instead of trying to rape and murder every player and npc in the game, or stop pretending you don't understand the basic mechanic of not calling the results of your action?
Fricking typical /tg/ zoomer, more obsessed with making sure that nobody gets to play any fricking games than actually being a legitimate part of the hobby. That's not gatekeeping, that's burning the castle and the village to keep the orcs out.

No. I tried joining a gamefinder discord once that was advertised in the gamefinder thread. I didn't last 3 days on the server due to massive amounts of autism and moronation. You don't find many socially functioning humans on /tg/

/tg/ doesn't provide players in the first place.
So if you find people to play they tend to be relatively desperate.

Then play 5e. 90% of game problems are player problems, not system problems.

Once you have a consistent group, then they're more open to trying other things. So if you remove the stick from your ass, you can probably find a group to play other games too. Online play is ime inferior to in-person.

Depends, I've found good players on this board.
It's all a matter of luck.

Honestly, discard servers, nowadays they've just become games of playing favorites. If you're not in certain circles then well you're shut out luck.

/tg/ is only good for recruiting if your are ruthless about cutting out and blocking people. Furrys, ultraweebs, and all the pedophiles associated with those two fandoms. If you're lucky you'll get about a fifty percent retention rate after drafting and culling. Run intros and one shots to vette players. Don't take any shit from fa/tg/uys, half of them don't play games and the ones that do almost never DM/GM/whatever. There's about twenty real GMs on this whole board and at this point I can practically recognize when one p[osts from their style because IT'S THE SAME TWENTYISH GUYS FOREVER AAAAAAA
