depends on the lore of the game, but i like picking races and classes that make sense in the game world. in wow i usually pick human for paladins and mages since they're both well-established roles in human society in the game with lots of lore behind them (knights of the silver hand, the kirin tor, medivh and the guardian of tirisfal, etc) .

Humans tend to be the baseline of experiencing something new in nearly every single piece of media, and will always offer the most versatility and effort.
Playing some alien in a game where I have no idea how those aliens work or their moral system OR anything like that could actually be detrimental to my playthrough because I’m imposing my human morality and thoughts instead of when that properly fits that race

At the very end of the list you could pick something that looked human, however it turns out they are the weirdest race by far, schizo personality and gameplay mechanics with the anatomy of The Thing.
