Other than the first and the jrpg, most yakuza games are japanese dub ONLY, meaning that the fans would get used to the japanese voices and feel weird suddely swapping to english after over a decade. I started playing Judgment tonight and in the first cutscene Genda starting speaking in English and I thought eww frick this and immediately ALT+F4'd and then went into the menu and changed the dub to Japanese. I would've done this from the start if I knew English was set as the default.

I listened to some of the dub on a lark and holy shit, every dude is doing the exact same big tough guy voice.
Even dweeby ass Nanba sounds like his VA tried as hard as possible to do a "badass" voice
there's a scene in the car where they're all just growling at each other even though it's just a normal conversation. Japanese audio keeps it light and fun and the English makes it sound like they're going to get into a fight. Absolutely terrible.
EN Nanba is genuinely terrible, and he does Yagami as well (Who he also can't do and I don't know how people praise his performance). A lot of the cast is fine, the main issue is the throwaway characters because everyone is either overacting to a hilarious degree or barely caring with no in between. It also doesn't help that Hoshino's VA also does the voice of the dying old man in a scene immediately after him in the exact same voice and inflection that you would think the dying guy is Hoshino but no, it's some random politician or something.

Last time I was listening to a podcast an IGN journalist was there. He said he won't play game an RPG (maybe Sword and Fairy 7?) because it doesn't have an English dub and reading is tiring. I'm not a native English speaker but I heard this a lot from native English speakers.
That's just him being lazy. The only time reading is tiring is when ti's Dragon Quest-esque accents in dialogue for hours at a time and you're constantly having to convert it from wienerney British into readable English.
