only because there's the potential for them to have learned from the many mistakes they made from Ark. one such mistake was tek, which they have said will not be in Ark 2
I just want a cool caveman-dinosaur game with >Fun combat >Co-op >No gay robo laser shit
There are barely any games that check 2 of these boxes, let alone all 3
>how on earth is ark a 125 GB install?
Uncompressed files. It cuts loading times but adds bloat. >rust and dayz are both under 20 GB and they're better games
And they're both bland as frick.
Wait till you try an indie gem that's <500mb but require 16gb of RAM!
bruh ark takes up more space than grand theft auto 5
how fricking uncompressed can that bullshit be
It blows up to 320GB when you start installing the free maps.
I've actually tested the NTFS compression on a 10GB directory and it shaved of about 3GB.
125GB is the base game with only the vanilla map.
The rest of that space is with all of the XPac + free maps installed.
You can get your space down if you want by going into Ark's DLC manager and unchecking all the maps.
The only caveat with doing that the game won't let you equip DLC-required stuff.

It's not just uncompressed files, it's deliberately cloned duplicate files. The intent was allegedly to improve loading times and performance on HDDs by having it occupy multiple places on the drive, not unlike how a lot of PS3 console games used to make the "most" of every bluray and slightly improve load times by duplicating files until it hit 50GB).
Of course, that shit didn't help on HDDs and is pointless on SDD. You can manually erase the clone files and the game is shrunk down to less than half the filesize. Even then, ARK is still super fricking bloated in size for no reason.
ARK 2 better be less than twenty fricking gigs, it doesn't need any more than that, not even for Vin Diesel voice lines or a story campaign.
>You can manually erase the clone files and the game is shrunk down to less than half the filesize.
WAT
Is there a frikken guide for this shit somewhere?
Google is as usual absolutely useless.
since launch I gained just about 2500 hours. I might be ark2..but holy shit its gonna need a facelift in terms of gameplay.the parkour and stuff with darksouls fights. So dying light with darksouls combat with all the cool shit minus some of the grind. Allow the players to hit the PVE orcs for materials and such. Allow pvp like division is certain area but have pve/ no kill hubs
im late to the party so I hope they have most of the things that are dlc in ark 1 in ark 2 by default, and better physics and stuff, so I can convince my friend who got bored of the grind that it could be worth playing.
I want to make a bar on a raft at the moment just for laughs and can't think of a better boat design. I hope they keep those extra building mechanics in the sequel too.
now that i've finally found an ark thread I have to ask aswell, why is there no general like what the hell more people play fork knife than this??? mental.
Hey got a question about ARK 1, I'm trying to do missions on gentwo but the start mission button is greyed out. Official PVP servers, did they disable it or can you not start missions if there are foundations right by?
Depends. I've never given a shit about the whole "survival game that's a simulation of primitive civilizations forming clans to have safety while asleep and fighting over territories/resources," but I would be interested if they leaned into the narrative elements. Kinda like Subnautica, where you're just dropped into a big giant map and the primary reasons you're creating forward bases and such is because you want to explore deeper, rather than just surviving for the sake of the survival sandbox.
From what I've heard, they leaned into that a bit as time went on, but not much beyond finding notes and killing bosses until the final expansion or something, and from what I watched, most of the bosses seemed real rudimentary. Seeing how they were heading in that direction and they're paying for Vin Diesel, I'd assume they're going ever further, and Ark 2 being a fresh start could allow the whole "explore the map and conquer its secrets with your buddies" thing to really blossom. That's the only reason I'd be interested and why I've got my ears ever so slightly pricked in its direction
Dark souls 3rd person gameplay is going to ruin the game. Im playing conquest right now and own 2 servers. Ark is about guns, dinosaurs, and havoc. Ark 2 is going to be a PvE daycare
Conan is similar - a janky build system, but it has actual npc enemies and quests/dungeons.
Did RUST patent it's build system or something? It's so simple to use I'm surprised noone else has done anything like it. I hate the extra steps in ARK/Conan
1. Have materials
2. Make in inventory
3. Wait
4. Equip to slot
5. Place
im assuming most of the playbase listed on steam for the first game are bots?
because the last time I seen someone play that game years ago it was a clunky buggy toxic clown feista of a game.
I actually really like playing Ark solo or with a few friends but have so little faith in the devs to do anything remotely competent that I'm not excited at all.
Ark 2? They're giving up on DLC?
Far from it, last DLC is from June 12th 2022
https://ark.fandom.com/wiki/Fjordur
It's a free map at least.
only because there's the potential for them to have learned from the many mistakes they made from Ark. one such mistake was tek, which they have said will not be in Ark 2

I am, it is the perfect opportunity to right 1's wrongs. I hope it just doesn't end up being atlas 2
judging by the steam page description it seems they're trying to check these
is the AI just gonna be shitty copy-pastes of each other, or will there actually be unique behaviors per animal?
We'll see if they have the funds to put good path finding in the game.
No because it has Vin Diesel and his mutt kid in it. Id rather just keep on playing Ark 1.
i literally could not give a single frick
however i will write this shitpost
it's fun to shitpost
frick yeah
I'd play a new survival game but I'm not excited about dinosaurs.
dinosaurs are cool as long as you don't believe they ever actually existed
Pretty sure it's going to be a singleplayer game, or nothing like the original ARK to the point of not really being a sequel.
how on earth is ark a 125 GB install?
rust and dayz are both under 20 GB and they're better games
smells like dogshit devs
>how on earth is ark a 125 GB install?

Shit flows both ways.

>more species
>more models
>more disk space

Wtf are you talking about? It's well over 400gb. See pic related.

Google is as usual absolutely useless.
Ark has always been an autism sim, there are plenty of autists so yeah.
It will be as jank as the first game and a peak timewaster sim. Like there are people that played this shit on vanilla rates.
>farm during the day
>lose everything when you log out
>repeat
Survival games are pure autism, absolute fricking garbage.
I know someone with 10k hours played and he plays only vanilla because ''Modded servers are for kids''
Just don't log out then?

you can save server state
but yeah, eventually you'll delete all that shit when moving to a different map
>Will it run under linux?
No

there was an ongoing survival games general here on /vm/ but the last one got randomly 404'd and nobody discussed ever since
It moved glacially slow even for /vm/
I built a thatch hut and a bed on a pvp server, I do not expect to live til the (irl) morning.
Hey got a question about ARK 1, I'm trying to do missions on gentwo but the start mission button is greyed out. Official PVP servers, did they disable it or can you not start missions if there are foundations right by?
I survived unharmed, I'm almost disappointed.
we bote now.
Think Ark 2 will cater to the chinks again and let them steamroll through everybody else's server while cheating their ass off?
>chinks
>cheating their ass off
No need to repeat yourself.
That's why you can rent servers and create private maps.
Ark2 is bound to have that too, right?
Depends. I hope in better waifu models
Bros if I like Ark is Conan worth checking out? I enjoy survival MP

Rust is just
1. Have materials
2. Equip Hammer
3. Build
Newest Conan Exiles update is finally gonna change it to exactly that apparently.
No, these morons just donated to an abortion lobby. I want to kill dinosaurs, not babies.
Thanks for the tip.
Got the free game but now never gona give them a dime.
im assuming most of the playbase listed on steam for the first game are bots?
because the last time I seen someone play that game years ago it was a clunky buggy toxic clown feista of a game.
I have the free Ark game I got from Epic. The game is too fricking huge. Frick that shit.
I actually really like playing Ark solo or with a few friends but have so little faith in the devs to do anything remotely competent that I'm not excited at all.
Idk, I feel like Wildcard will frick it up. Tek was a mistake, just give me my comfy dino game back you fricks
