And for what it's worth, I played through the game to the end and never engaged in any of the romance or sex scenes, because they didn't interest me. My wizard got the best possible ending. Now I'm playing through BG1 and really enjoying it as well.

Or how you can defeat a spider boss by simply shoving it off the map in one turn? For Larian, that's "creative design". For every DM, a sign that they are a shit DM.

you also break a fricking million things in other RPGs. you can stack tons of explosives next to NPCs in Deus Ex, NV, etc and launch them into the stratosphere before they even bother reacting. you jump in and out of combat to cheese entire combat encounters in FO. you can backtrack and get AI stuck on geometry in BG1/2 or bait them one by one to kill them if theyre too tough (you can even do this in underrail).
thing is, when Larian has ways you explicitly break the game. suddenly cRPG 'fans' run a microscope on their games even though you can explicitly do this in others. games in these genres are ambitious and rarely polished or thoroughly tested. but your standards increase 20x when identity politics are involved.

5e is bad in general because it destroyed the source material completely. I've never been so indifferent to the idea of playing a D&D game as I am to BG3. I played all the isometrics, most of the 1st person crawlers, and used to DM. Tieflings becoming half-fiends instead of merely descendants of a tainted bloodline and the sexualization of a race from Limbo that was explicitly neither sexual nor tolerant of other races enough to pair bond with them, an illithid demonstrating anything resembling sexuality and being a gay bawd or even suggesting it would parlay at all with you, and removing the distinctions between races is nothing but irresolute trash, full stop. Replacing the core of the setting revolving around the conflict of absolute philosophical good vs evil is the final nail. I don't even care about the mechanics, they trashed those so bad especially with how they gutted spellcasting so bad it's just a neutered gamey wet fart. The only people I can imagine actually like this game are rhose who ignore the roots and enjoy buildcrafting within a set of parameters to overcome objectives or actual mind-virus infected gays. There's certainly overlap with those these days.
