I savescum when bullshit happens, like triggering a fight to the death if I break the cocoon as a prisoner in the goblin dungeon. I still don't know if I want to kill them or the squatters.

I beat it tonight. Was pretty good, I wish the final fight had more to it tbh. It's cute that the design mirrors the tutorial boss fight on the nautiloid. Lae'zel two turned the dragon after my evoker dropped 100 force damage on him. She's unstoppable once she hits 6 attacks per round with 27 strength. Shadowheart basically told me to get fricked now that I have tentacles but after I insisted we stay together she decided to stay with me. Can't believe she wanted to drop my ass after I saved her soul and got her a god that isn't a hateful c**t.

It was one of the most pozzed games I've ever played. You need to have a high tolerance for that shit if you wanna enjoy that game.
That being said, if you like turn-based combat, it's got a well made combat system. I actually enjoyed the combat far more than anything else. Each combat encounter acts kind of like a puzzle to be solved. How you're going to position your characters, what abilities/spells you're going to use on who, and even what kind of surface you're standing on. All of that stuff matters a lot.
I'd be lying if I said that the devs didn't put a lot of thought into the game. It was definitely a labor of love.
It's just that god damn there's a lot of poz. The story is largely shit, and everyone is a gay.
Also the RNG is a mother fricker in this game. It's out of the X-Com 2 school of '95% chance to hit, but you continually miss'.

I'm not sure how to rate it, it's not super cerebral, nor is it unbearably shallow, it's interesting and keeps you invested.
The writing is not good and the performance of voice actors isn't related to the quality of writing. I do agree that the voice acting is great for what it is but most of the time it's NPCs standing idly looking ahead reading off a script without emotion.
its a very good game but I dont advise playing on the hardest difficulty unless you enjoy reloading/restarting fights over and over again for hours at a time. I think my personal experience was ruined because of this.
what fights did you do that on? sounds like a mega skill issue
most of them, it doesn't matter what spells you pick, or what strategy you come up with. If you miss attack/spells or effects resist then the next enemy turn they will usually kill off your party members and you eventually lose and have to restart.
The most powerful stuff in this game are attacks/spells which hit multiple times due to the nature of dice rolls and how the enemy AI works, eg (sleet storm, wall of fire)
the only fight Id agree where thats the case is yuigur only because you might get unlucky and a cluster of his grenades detonates before you get a turn, instagibbing you, but other than that your post sounds like a mega skill issue. are you positioning correctly? the best action the enemy can do is dash
that yugir fight if you go to the side where the spider body is and aggro the fight from there, most of the mobs will get stuck waiting at the above platform edge while the boss will come on its own and natually won't do the cluster bomb attack.
off the top of my head its mostly the scripted fights that start from a conversation within a fixed environment. The ones that were really frustrating was that moonrise tower one where you fight literally 20 dudes with the npcs you have keep getting chain cc'ed/slowed by the dude casting black hole.
Also balthazarr if turn dead/shove fails then you have to just restart/reload over and over again.
Most of the act1 fights were ok, this part of the game felt more polished/well done since there are multiple ways to approach each fight, so you didn't need to rely on restarting so much.
You can very easily deal with the Moonrise Towers fight by arranging all sorts of accidents for the enemy forces before you commit to fighting them. In my game, I had to fight about five dudes because I had made sure everyone else fell to their death and was never seen again when patrolling all around the chasm tower walls.
I'd recommend it, anon, it's very interesting, the music is great, dialogue is great, lots of heart and soul, it's pretty buggy in later stages, but overall a genuinely great roleplaying experience from start to finish.
Lots of pleasant surprises all over the place, from little ones to big ones, very refreshing.
Once finished, I got excited for the future of games, and I expect topics like romance and sex to make a bigger AAA appearance overall and become normalized.

I find the game very enjoyable. I like the fact that there arent any boring dungeons filled with trash fight after fight like deep roads in Dragon Age Origins.
Every encounter is special and plays a role. You can even skip a lot of bosses with charisma checks or other methods.
I also like the fact that companions are talking during explorations and in your dialogues too.
I wonder how act 3 will be with all the people talking how buggy and incomplete it is. I never encountered a bug so far, only camera is really bad in a lot of places. Still solid 9+/10 so far.

But, unlike what the media narrative tells everyone, the game gets as buggy as Cyberpunk 2077 after Act 1, and Act 3 forced me to restart the game every hour, and apparently a certain update corrupts every save that you've made before. So, I'd wait a couple of months until it gets patched.
There is a lot of content, there aren't that many actual endings but there are many genuinely different ways that you can take to achieve them, like, I was really surprised how different other's stories went out and how many big things and storylines (that affect the story in major ways) I've missed. I'm 100% going to replay the game in the future. If you're one of those guys who for some reason were blown away by Fallout: New Vegas four endings, where each one had a very linear path, this game has very non linear endings, where a thing that you have skipped in Act 2 can affect the story in a major way later.
When it comes to homosexualry, there is basically no sex shit after the Act 1 party, people who say that everyone want's to constantly frick you, that's a thing, yes, but for the first 8h of the game or something, and if you say no, the character is going to stop hitting on you. The game doesn't force you to be a gay, and if you're so fragile about it for some reason, just don't play the fricking game.
Also stop moralgayging about the bear sex scene, it's funny.

Here's my honest review
I downloaded it yesterday with a bottle of rum.
I have not played much yet. So far I have only made it to the druid grove.
I play on Ultra settings but it is not visually impressive. To be honest here, DOS2 looked better.
The animations too during cutscenes are cringe and there are glitches all around. The characters sometimes look like they move as if they are puppets on a string.
It brings nothing new to the genre, it even seems to have less features than DOS2 (like not much of interactive environment during the battles).
It's a very bare bones old school RPG with the shitty 5e D&D ruleset.
The story is ok, so far. It gives you a good reason to stay with your companions and go on with the main quest (you have parasites in your head that may turn you into monsters if you don't remove them soon).
The companions are too few (I haven't met them all yet anyway, but I know it) especially when compared to previous Baldur's Gate games that had a lot of companions to choose from, and party of 6 instead of BG3 which only has a party of 4 total. A serious downgrade here.
It's a very mediocre game and I have a feeling it gets pushed and shilled so hard only because of the homosexualry.
Previous Larian titles and the first two BGs are so far much better than this.
Its getting shilled and pushed hard because it doesn't have any predatory monetization practices and gamers feel like if they make it win it will teach greedy devs a lesson.

Should a Paladin wear heavy or medium armor? My guts are telling me heavy, but I've been using medium because that was the starter armor and I've been afraid to change.

Depends on your dex, I'd decided on character creation I'll be wearing heavy so I went with 8
There's two pieces of ore you can find at the forge so you can make both heavy and medium armor which is what I did

It's worth playing 50% off and when the game is actually complete in 2 years and has a vibrant modding scene. The more I think about it this is a 7/10 mediocre RPG and the only reason you want to play it is because of hype, in a year you won't even care about this game.

if you plan to savescum like I do, then you want to install the halfling luck mod. It rerolls natural 1s once, so it prevents having to reroll some easy checks.
Then you need to install the modfixer to make it work. The achievement enabler so you can still get achievements. The expanded spells. Tav's hair salon for more hair options. If you're a coomer: Enhanced nudes or enhanced nudes slim edition.
I've also installed a reshader and it makes some areas lool better and others worse.

you can pick a torrent and see if you like, I myself hated original baldur's gate but this one is actually fun, the tactics combat system feels much better compared to the old clusterfrick of mobs punching each other from old games
