Hell, you can even see them poking at temporary companions in RE4 with Luis. I wouldn't be surprised if that was purposefully done to get some sense of how Sheva might work for people playing single player.
Otherwise, I could see them remaking RE1. Again. As perfect as the Gamecube version of RE1 is, I wouldn't be surprised to see them making another version of it using an over-the-shoulder perspective.
My bet is RE5 though. They've got a framework for how npc companions will work, they've got Wesker built up more with the RE4 Remake (and modeled), and the co-op aspect of RE5 would make for way more sales.

Incredibly unnecessary alterations all around. I don’t want Capcom to remake CV, as I don’t think they’d do the Ashford twins justice, but I don’t want the events of the game to be rendered non-canon either. They should just give CV an official PC port already.

We as the players know it’s coded and Claire knows it’s very off from how Chris usually sounds, but she doesn’t have any more details than that. And she never brings him up again after that, so the game gives the impression that she’s dropped it. Also, that letter is 100% missable in RE2R, whereas the diary is on top of a key item in RE2, so you literally can’t progress through the game without grabbing it.
How many HQs does Umbrella even have in Europe? The series made it seem like the american and french Umbrella were top dogs, while everything else were secret bases you'd have tough time locating.
