keeping track of one bone is way more sensible than
its comparable to rillaboom holding onto just one drumstick. That would be easy to fight with and keep track of. You can move and attack freely while carrying one thing. It's the fact that it has to stand still to set up the drum, and ready its two sticks every time it wants to attack with it that looks clumsy
The anime handles it clumsily. It basically rushes back to its drum set when it wants to use its signature move, and runs around the battlefield otherwise. Most of its “battling” outside of its Gmax is also shown in stills too. It’s a pokemon they actively didn’t want to animate.
It’s even worse; it just teleports to the drumkit with reused animation because the animators either couldn’t figure out how to make it fight properly or didn’t care.
The funniest part is this makes more sense (kinda) than Rillaboom carrying around a literal drumset.
The drums are made of wood, if you’re so deadset on having a drumset just have it grow a new one whenever needed instead of carrying it around. It’s like they thought “we want a drumming gorilla” and then made the worst design decision possible at every step along the way.
Sometimes it'll put the drum down, sometimes it'll carry it on its back, sometimes it'll carry it with it while it fights
