but D4 also beats d2 in that regard, because D2 is a bad game
Dilate elsewhere
No. D4 has more skill "variety", but none of them ever feel like they significantly change the way you play. I'm D2, each branch of the skill tree actually feels like a different character. They may not be perfectly balanced, but even the worst build feels better than the best D4 has to offer.
It helps that the enemies aren't damage sponges in D2.
endgame is a design for games you pay continuously for. arpgs do not need it.

Then you're looking wrong, because you can certainly spend $100+ on PoE if you want to. The basegame is free. But you sound like you have some prebuilt poorgay pc so you should probably steer clear of the cosmetics. They can be rather flashy.

If the base is less than $100, I don't consider it a game. Also, my PC.

Too obvious. 1/10 for the effort it took to slap that together.
D2 has a better story but the gameplay really didn"t age well. D2 feels tedious af to play. it doesn't matter if a game has a good story and lore if playing the actual game isn't fun and satisfying. plus D2 gets too easy once you get the endgame gear, nothings challenging. you just kill everything with one hit.
D2 is just a less fun experience overall, as there are too many sections throughout the game that are just boring or frustrating, and that's not even taking into consideration how some classes fare worse before you can commit to grinding gear for them. D3 stays more consistent in the fun gameplay department, even if D2 has overall more gratifying highs.
Some of the characters in the other games are ugly too. The actual reason is the gameplay,in terms of chores you're encouraged to complete, dungeons you grind, have that boring mobile game feeling to them.
it's not only the reason. the classes feel like they've all been watered down to appeal to everybody. they tried making the game mainstream which I just don't like. I didn't like the art, I didn't like the colors, I didn't like the gameplay... everything just felt like a letdown for me.
>Open game >Teleport to Ball's Sack >Kill all the mobs with my singular broken spell >Fail the 0.000000001% chance of a rare item dropping >Repeat
Soul. So much better than D1.
Baal runs were the payoff to getting through all 3 difficulties and finally being able to obliterate enemies and try to XP grind with friends. It was where the bulk of the game's social interaction happened; something that D4 doesn't even attempt.
I don't think you understand basic human interaction. You and your lads don't sit in an empty room pontificating to one another. You contextualize it with a brainless activity like watching football, eating dinner, or doing Baal runs. You don't socialize when you're using your brain on something like writing a novel, playing chess, or doing organic chemistry homework

>Turn on the television if in real life >Tell one of the boys share his screen of whatever game he's playing
Problem solved
I downloaded Diablo 4 with Gamepass and I still couldn't be fricked to play more than a couple of hours before getting bored and uninstalling.
Who wants an ultra-cinematic, cutscene-laden "ARPG"? Who asked for that? >Walk for a couple of minutes and enter a town >Cutscene with an NPC >Enter the town's small church >Bigger cutscene with Lilith >Turn in a quest >Cutscene with an NPC
On top of extremely low numbers of monsters, so you're not even really killing all that much. It's so fricking boring.
Diablo 2 continues to mog the rest and it's not even close.
>The extremely low number of monsters
There was one segment, in a cave, where nearly 5 minutes passed without a monster. That may not sound like a lot but in ARPG gameplay that feels like an eternity. Didn't help that there was a bunch of those stupid long climbing animations
It just sucks. It's not fun. D4 had something to interrupt your gameplay every few minutes, and goes out of its way to "drip feed" you the stuff that's actually fun (e.g. killing monsters, using your cool abilities).
The builder / spender skill system has to fricking go. It's so awful and boring.
D2 is amazing but you need to sink lots of time into it to get a payoff. D3 is more fun because it feels more gamey and couch co-op. I would not touch the other 2 games.
I like the predefined characters in Diablo 2 more.
I like the fact Diablo 2 is not online only and can be modded.
I like Diablo 2's itemization better
As I have gotten older I've come to the conclusion I don't really like playing these games multiplayer. Which also means I'm not really a fan of the Diablo 2 patch that introduced immunities, as iirc the justification was they wanted players to play cooperatively more.
Over all I just liked Diablo 2 better.
D1 is a classic, but d2 improved on everything. D3 has a terrible story and the setting went from you're a hero in a desperate world to you are a demigod with an oc donut steel backstory that makes you more powerful than everything else. It was also the beginning of shitty loot systems. D4 is still a shit game, but they reigned in some of the awful stuff about D3, but it still feels soulless and the itemization is still fricking awful (but might be fixed soon? Who knows). Story is better but it's also still kind of shit and low effort.
Some people enjoy mindless clicking and had fun with d3 so ymmv. That said some people literally cannot stop sucking wieners and so they enjoy immortal.
PoE pre-Ascendency was probably on par with D2, it might have even been slightly better with the initial Ascendency release. Unfortunately the power creep and bloat of the game has dragged it so far down that it's now somewhere between D3 and D4.
Seriously I want to like PoE but every time I get back in I just get bored quicker and quicker.
Rings a very tiny bell, but I can't place it. Then again, I don't pay that much attention to blizz related things after I finally accepted that blizz died with North after the shitshow that was d3.
I haven't really read any of the itemization changes the only way I can imagine they can make it worse is adding even more moronic affixes going hard on quantity > quality
2. By a lot. 4 isn't even necessarily bad, it's just kind of boring and feels like a pointless fanfiction. 3 was a definitive ending is also a much better game.
are they removing lucky hit because chance on chance is dumb
I didn't look that closely, but I hope not because the effects were really good. That necro pic in
>disney-fied colors of 4
Do you mean 3?
has a Lidless Wall, which has a 100% chance to proc a Bone Storm on a lucky hit (which is like 70% with Bone Spear), keeping up to 5 running at all times. Also my 5% chance resource generation proc goes off regularly.
Nah, it's not goblin sliders like From or TES games. There's like 4 faces per gender/class combo, and about 20 hairstyles. It just comes down to skin/eye/hair coloration.
not him but no. that might be a mtx armor though.
Nah, that's all from salvages except the focus (S3 battle pass) and the back trophy (midwinter event).

I couldn't remember if the under-b00b armor was from salvage, very nice. I haven't played Female Sorc yet.
t. love female necromancer and female barb.

rogue's even worse, only good set was a transmog mtx armour which made my character look nearly naked
D2 > D1 > D3
D3 was almost equal to D1 in fun if you had friends to play with, even if the itemization was moronicly bad.
D2R was good too. Probably equal to D2. Fixed some bad bugs. Fixed some good bugs. Introduced new bad bugs. Larger resolution was nice.
I knew not to touch the inevitable dumpster fire that was D4 because I played D3.
My main problem with Diablo 3 and 4 is that the campaign is simply not fun to play through. It's a miserable slog akin to leveling in World of Warcraft (intentional?). Meanwhile, I can always boot up Diablo 2 once in a while and play through the story acts multiple times and still enjoy it, and then from there if I feel like participating in the autismo grinding that is "endgame" I can naturally progress into that. With D3/4 there's no maingame, the maingame sucks wiener, so it's just trying to skip right to the endgame right away which never felt right to me.
That said I hate this whole genre of games except for D2, and clearly I'm in the extreme minority.
D1 > D3 >D2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> D4
That has to be the most braindead homosexual shit I've ever seen on this website. I'm out of this thread.
>D3 >D2
I don't even want to know your reasoning because whatever it is it's fricking stupid.

Endgame is a meme. D1 doesn't have one either, you're a clown
>endgame

Im not going to nursing homes sorry
But there was no endgame for D2. It was pathetically shallow

You homosexual autists come up with the stupidest terms. Games are made to be played once then you just go play something else you useless monkey.

Anon, pls.

Different niches scratching different itches.
Diablo 2 is the best game in the series by a long shot, although the first game's atmosphere is godtier.
D2 is amazing but you need to sink lots of time into it to get a payoff. D3 is more fun because it feels more gamey and couch co-op. I would not touch the other 2 games.
D2 by a country mile. 4 is an over-monetized piece of garbage.

Diablo is most played on Xbox now. Diablo is officially an Xbox franchise.

Nostalgiashitters will disagree.
let me guess the next d4 season fixes everything
It looks like it's ruining everything. The itemization and trading changes are fricking stupid.
I haven't really read any of the itemization changes the only way I can imagine they can make it worse is adding even more moronic affixes going hard on quantity > quality

I got it because it was halal. Can't be doing the pork thingy.
2. By a lot. 4 isn't even necessarily bad, it's just kind of boring and feels like a pointless fanfiction. 3 was a definitive ending is also a much better game.
definitely 2. the dark and gothic atmosphere of the game is much better than the disney-fied colors of 4.

Can I make a cute white female Paladin in Diablo
Paladins only exist in 2, and it's a black man. 4 is the first game where you could customize your appearance.
Crusaders were basically Paladins in D3.
>EEZ PALADIN GUTS! JUST AS GOOD! NO REFUND!
D2 is only beloved by millennial nostalgia
It's way better than D4 though
D2 > D1 > D3
D3 was almost equal to D1 in fun if you had friends to play with, even if the itemization was moronicly bad.

are there any good mods for armors for d4? I can see only shader mods on nexus
you must pay for mods in D4. it's not a poor mans' game.
correct it's a game for chink whales
My main problem with Diablo 3 and 4 is that the campaign is simply not fun to play through. It's a miserable slog akin to leveling in World of Warcraft (intentional?). absolutely
to me it seems like d4 was built big and empty with mounts in mind which is just moronic
