He's right since the movies remove tons of elements from the books and turn them into generic Hollywood action stuff, they're popular because they're pretty and have 2 popular lead actors.
I think Dennis Dunc is just the right amount of weird. David Lynch played up how strange everything in the world of Dune was while Dennis kept it all odd but filmed it as if all the weird stuff is just a normal part of everyday life in this universe. There are pros and cons to both approaches but I prefer Dennis' way of doing it. To me it's more immersive and makes the world more believable without detracting from how different it is from plain old reality.
