It would actually be a good game with at least some replayability if it was an rts. As it stands, once you complete your first rocket to space there is nothing left to do. Other than trying again with a more optimal build type(but this is done easily with ratio calculator). You can also up the bug difficulty but bugs are an easy, mindless and boring enemy. The reason they made the space mod into an official expansion is due in part to the games lack of replayability.
This will help but only so much. They should definitely add some more dynamic and varied threats other than bugs. Maybe other competing factories that can expand over time and output much more than bugs if left unchecked. Also have to compete with space and resource with them.
In vanilla there was also a severe lack of strategic resources(which add to the strategic layer) so there were only a handful of main basic ones. Although this issue is remedied in space mod with other planets. I still think they should add more resource types to regular worlds.
Also the world generation is horrible and there is no elevation or significant geographical features other than small lakes and cliffs you can remove.
Frick that, the tower defense thing is stupid and a sign that devs have no idea what to do with their game. It's stupid in Factorio, it's stupid in Industries of Titan, and it's stupid in Dwarf Fortress fortress mode. It'd be better off as a city builder or some sort of economic sim where you consume the resources and need to produce more and recycle waste while expanding on the pollution system. Better if there are events like several days of no sunlight. RTS could work, but it'd only be interesting if you were primarily on the production end.
it's kind of stupid and it absolutely turns off huge amounts of new players but factorio seems very proud of its combat and like half the research is combat and you can't just remove half the game
The fact that you think there is enough variance in gameplay for the building aspect to carry the game alone shows that you are truly beyond assburgers syndrome.
As it stands, there is much depth but the game is already "solved" out of the gate. Due to the lack of variables that affect how you build. Like I said before, the world generation is bland and offers no significant difference between areas. In a regular building game, the terrain and environment would affect how you would tackle things and add different desired strategies. Which in turn would allow much more variance of gameplay and build types.
Again also, there is pretty much no different bioimes or different resources in them so you always develop the same exact way. It's completely homogeneous.
The game never needed launching a rocket to "win" it but it does feel nice.
I can design nuclear plants in this game forever.
The world gen is a tad lacking though.
You are still designing the same factories with the same ratios over and over. The variations are only slight. It doesn't matter if it's sandbox because most of what you do is extremely similar. Unless you are on the spectrum then this gets old eventually.

No, it's an engineering game.

Is Factorio an RTS?
>They don't know how to program vehicles to become remote rts units that you can command from your base.
Learn how to code.
Well I think they showed enough to maybe start addressing the "lack of replayability" complaint of this thread.
I'm more confused why they were so secretive about the expansion theme if it were pretty much decided even before 1.0. It made me think they were actually going to pull something crazier off, like underground and underwater in addition to space.
Factorio 2: The Return Home. Land on your homeplanet and improve the logistics of your already autistic fellow huumans. Produce too much pollution and get swarmed by SJWs.
yeah, while not everyone is against the idea, absolutely everyone hates the names
I'm 100% sure the names will be less video-gamey
they do listen to what people think
Well, they didn't really say that much, did they.
For me, the space exploration is kinda meh theme, but I guess I can see how that would be next logical step for an expansion.
I love the idea of space exploration, but the mod is too big and too complex
it's ok if you're a neet or "student" I guess, but I don't have 500 hours to burn like that anymore
That's why they made the expansion much more focused than the mod. It basically doubles the game time, rather than multiplies it by 20 like the mod does.
but is it an rpg?
No, it's an engineering game.
... why being smug about it?
/thread
>... why being smug about it?
Snail is inherently smug
>... why being smug about it?
I'd be that smug if I got you all to reply to the dumbest of questions.
It can be if you use the rts mod
yes it's an rts with conveyer belts instead of everything automatically going into a global resource pool
It's a 3rd person shooter. You shoot aliens and eventually a rocket into space
technically yes, realistically, no.
Comparing with some games on this board, it is. So is space engineers. Might as well throw in minecraft, too.
Your mother is an RTS.

I wish
I want an RTS where you have factorio style factories making your shit
No, it's a logistics/management game with a complex (-ish) crafting system. Also known as a factory builder game.
Mindustry is pretty much that, ever since they figured out that blowing up someone else's base is more fun than waiting until yours gets blown up.
>They don't know how to program vehicles to become remote rts units that you can command from your base.
Learn how to code.
It's a traffic simulator
Factorio is a chemistry simulation if you install Nullius
Thoughts on the dlc so far?

It's a non-RTS game in an RTS game engine.
Monkey best girl
they were just waiting till they had a solid release date so they could build hype.
I had to check the date when I read the FFF
Factorio 2: The Return Home. Land on your homeplanet and improve the logistics of your already autistic fellow huumans. Produce too much pollution and get swarmed by SJWs.
is your mom a Black person?
It's a moba
We gacha now
Thanks devs, I hate it.
Here's your replayability bro
>those names are real
kek this can't be going over well

The more I think about it the more it seems like a cool mechanic. But it makes zero sense thematically, even with more appropriate names.
Would have been a fun april fools' joke.
Anything is an RTS if you're autistic enough
It's a casual indie game.
New stuff. Nullius "Do X 10 times" techs are now base game.
Early game triggers.
And new late game infinite techs. Megabases are going to be wild.
