He means Koji's replacement Kate, who has gone on record as saying she wanted to set precedent for nonbinary characters just so she could continue using it in the future. As for Type A and Type B stuff, the new hairstyle contest uses it as the format for the male/female template the contestant is to draw the hairstyle on. But for the moment, it may just be formatting specifically for the contest, so nobody gets confused and thinks they should be drawing two different hairstyles for male/female. I will keep coping that way until the benchmark comes out and we know for sure.

Because dragons identify with one gender or the other despite being sexless. This is lore from HW, and I can post the lore book page if you want. Personally my headcanon is that dragons used to have two sexes at one point but because of their weird mutational biology they eventually just became asexual because that was more efficient or something. There's no other reason why they'd adhere to traditional sex roles despite being asexual.

That's not something that I actually have a problem with. The meaning is the same it's just that archaic English is being used. My problem is changing the meaning of a sentence.
The most common thing that I experience is the text is brief when the Japanese is detailed or when the Japanese is brief and the text is overtly detailed. Problem is I know for a fact there are several examples (like boss barks in Anabaseios). But there is so much text in the game is that I struggle to think of an example. If I somehow remember an example I'll showcase it.

This game is a flop outside of weeb circles. No one knows or cares about it. Case in point: FFXVI was supposed to ride the wave of all of the XIV fans but it was a massive sales flop and a completely forgettable game.

I love Final Fantasy 14, but does anyone else feel like the UI just blows ass? The itemization of armour and weapons and the endless nested menus just feels like it's a hang-on from PS3/FF11. I never feel excited or even understand what's happening when I get a new piece of armour, and I can't even begin to start with the crafting system since I feel like I'm looking at unreadable spreadsheets. I always just play the main quest and quit since even the chat function/company menus inhibits my ability to socialize. Doesn't help that addons don't seem to be supported as well as in shit like WoW so I don't know how I could begin to fix it.

FFXI actually had good itemization though. The boring gear in this game is just a result of sterile balancing and strict vertical progression.
Maybe it's a problem of the 'auto-equip' system where I just hit a button to put on the best stuff so I don't have to think about it. Kind of hate the inventory bag/armory chest. Every icon is so tiny, and it overloads my mind with junk I pick up from ARR areas and quests that floods my inventory.

It's treated that way because Hydaelyn's followers don't go around mass-murdering while laughing like a 1960s cartoon villain.
What Zodiark initially did was treated as a good thing in the story and Venat didn't disagree with that either. But going beyond what seemed to be the initial scope of His purpose seemed to cross a line that she, and evidently enough people to successfully oppose His power, disagreed with.
The key difference in how they're treated is because the story is told from the WoL's point of view and throughout the entire game we've been opposing Zodiark and the Ascians, who wanted to kill us and destroy the world. Hydaelyn meanwhile saved our lives and gave us the power to fight back and protect our own existence while the Ascians continued to go around killing people and sowing chaos. To most people, I would think that committing random acts of villainy while dressed in masks and black robes is short-hand for "these are the bad guys". And that's how the game was for years with nothing else to really make us question things.
That sort of stasis quo went on until 3 expansions and 6/9 years into the story when the writers sort of did a paradigm shift. While it was revealed that Hydaelyn kept the truth from us, the Ascians didn't stop to explain themselves correctly either and until after trying to kill us and failing several times. This explanation of why being revealed until many, many hours in the story's life and years in real time also makes it difficult to walk back the behavior of the Ascians from before and reconcile them as a sympathetic party.
The writers wrote themselves into a corner trying to make things grey despite things being pretty black and white before. They attached complexity to a story that was previously "light good, darkness bad" and I think they fumbled the attempt.
So just to make sure im getting this correctly, you believe they had a strict good vs evil story going on until around ShB where they decided to shift to a greyer narrative. If i read that correctly then good because we’re in agreement, then. My issue doesn’t necessarily lie with anything prior to that though. I understand retcons and things like Zodiark just being referred to as bad and evil back then. I have 0 issue with that. My issue is after* the devs specifically state in interviews etc that they’re writing the story to center around grey morality and neither side being right or wrong, they then come out with heavy, yes I’m going to use the word again, bias, towards Venat.
I somewhat understand the explanations of the scions or WoL not questioning her even if i personally don’t agree with it myself. However, when you have things like her minion specifically calling her a hero, that isn’t grey. When you have things like the Codex which is meant to serve as a lore guide for new players specifically showing heavy bias towards her side and calling her a primal of peace (she objectively is nothing of the sort and i think even she would agree with that,) there is an issue.
But we can even look at the smaller things as well. Interesting how she gets all this development and time even if it wasn’t that much yet both Elidibus and Zodiark got minuscule screentime in comparison. I don’t see a minion for either of them calling them heroes for standing for what they believe in. Or even the bare minimum of at least bringing up in Zodiark’s codex entry or realistically any of the scions offering any form of gratitude or thanks to Zodiark or Elidibus for saving us and the world. Literally if it wasn’t for either of them, we’d be dead.
The thing there is that 'controversial' can be taken in two fundamentally different ways with characters like Venat and Emet.
1. 'This character stands for and acted on things that aren't inherently agreeable and cause split emotional responses as people have different reactions to them. This is both true and intentional for Emet and Venat, and are a huge partof their joint popularity; neither would be nearly as popular if Emet were just a sassy boy with depression, and Venat was just a nice wine mom. Even Harchefant's popularity is falling off over time.
2. That a character actually has a split response among the fanbase in terms of 'like' or 'don't like', to the point of significant divides. FFXIV doesn't actually have many of these on a large scale, and the best I can think of (for VERY different reasons) are Lyse and Hildibrand.
I'd prefer to use the term 'polarizing', because neither is actually, by dictionary definition, 'controversial'; none of those characters caused controversies.
These are entirely separate definitions, and one doesn't inherently cause the other. Again, Emet and Venat are two of the most popular characters in the game, in very large part because of their emotionally and morally complex stories and deeds. (Granted, this isn't exactly a perfectly repeatable formula; Ysayle didn't exactly see the same bump, and I have some largely unrelated thoughts on why.) And on the other side of that coin, the reasons Lyse and Hildibrand get hate is in no way related to their views and actions, that range from ineffectual to nonexistent. I think using terms like 'controversial' or 'polarizing' relating to Venat (doesn't really happen around Emet) is basically an attempt to conflate the two as the same, when they absolutely aren't.

You are absolute moron if you believe ARR/HW was black n white, that shit only started in SB. In ARR, Garlemalde and & Gaius are presented as having viable (albeit flawed) solution to existential threat posed by Primals and that life under Garlean rule has its positives as well. HW further compounds this with Regula's dedication to ending the Primal Threat. Even Varis himself had depth since the guy priorised Azys La instead of randomly genociding Vanu Vanus for the sake of Evulz.
All of this shades of gray gets abandoned in SB with the story repeatedly slamming GARLEANS BAD to your face. And the moment you get teased about any complexity like the Populares, it quickly gets reduced to GARLEANS BAD THIS EXCEPTION GOOD.
Zenos himself was handled so horribly that it took two expansions to actually restore what original SB MSQ already gave him: amazing fight to the death. EW finale against him was kino, but thematically unnecessary.

When you get down to it, yoship basically made XVI the only way he knew how: like an mmo. You have the step and fetch quests, you have the characters handing off items, the quest complete music, all of it. He basically just made another mmo because that's really all he's done besides one Dragon Quest game.
Not to say he shouldn't be blamed, but I don't entirely know what he could have done differently to fix it.
He could make it open world, but Nomura did that with XV and the main complaint was that the open world was empty and devoid of anything to do. You spent most of your time sitting in a car going down the road. There was no real off road adventure to be had because the overworld was empty.
He could change the side quests I guess, but there's only so many ways you can tell someone to give out 5 hearty soups. If he just cuts out side quests altogether then you may as well just make it only cutscenes and eliminate the gameplay. FFXVI can just be a movie not that I'd be opposed to that. FFXV got a movie and it didn't even relate to the game at all. Neither did the anime really.
One of the most common criticisms I see is just "it isn't turn based combat!" in which case... what do you expect? no one buys turn based games anymore. If you want them to return, I suggest you convince several million people to go out and buy Bravely Default and rate it 10 stars. Maybe that will convince Square people want TBC games again. Until then, this style isn't going away.
Story itself isn't that bad though. it's basically just taking all the high points from Game of Thrones and putting it into a video game. Could really do without the constant breaks and of course the active time maneuver cutscenes.
The most common reasonable complaint is that the core gameplay is very shallow due in part to the lack of enemy aggression and complexity and the raw power Clive has by the end of the game.
Every person I have seen play the game who has any experience with action games really like it at the start then start getting bored by the combat around the lead up to Titan and then are completely sick of it by Odin.
The issue with the side-quests is that the gameplay is not engaging enough to make sitting through minutes of exposition worth it and unless you really give a shit its not that deep till the end where most people are so fed up that they cannot muster the necessary goodwill to buy infir the narratives the sidequests are giving.

I don't think I can truthfully say my position on the matter has much to do with being "not okay" with Venat's actions or those of Emet-Selch. It is after all just a story, and I do think both characters were written adequately in their respective roles. Both had their perceived justifications, and both found themselves in what most would consider impossible positions. Neither really had a means to bring about an end that would satisfy everyone. Both of them also have an unfathomable amount of blood on their hands. Neither of them were, in my opinion, "good." They were flawed people whose actions lead to flawed outcomes. In other words, they're both guilty as can be of omnicide.
What I'm not overly fond of is the lack of in-game negative response to the truth of what she did. It's the sort of thing the Scions would normally find positively revolting, but they seemed quite willing to just overlook it. The closest thing we really see to it being called out proper is in one of our responses to Omega on the matter. Quite frankly, I don't think I would have even become embroiled in the numerous conversations on the subject were it not for this particular thing. It just didn't jive with me for whatever reason. "What's good for the goose is good for the gander," as they say.
Ultimately, I suppose I can attribute some of it to the impression I was left with by Endwalker; that the writers tried to walk back some of the "morally grey" ShB brought to the table. I like nuance, intrigue, and moral quandaries with no right answer.
I've got no particular need to feel like my character is "right" in a given situation, and I definitely don't mind if it sometimes turns out their actions have horrible consequences. Sometimes doing what you think is right turns out be the opposite, and sometimes you find out the person or entity you believed in is just as flawed and broken as you are. Hell, sometimes you wind up just being flat out wrong and get a bunch of people killed -- or, for an example that befits the topic at hand, realize your story about the future was in part the inspiration for what transpired on Venat's end. It's fine for bad things to happen in fiction, but if they do, I'd much prefer to see the resulting social and/or emotional fallout. Consequences and emotional substance are very important parts of a story to me.
It really just comes down to exactly what Emet-Selch and Elidibus said. They were restoring their world. In their mind, the sundered weren't real people. The only hope was to restore mankind to the immortal race it once was. Everyone's soul is basically just a fraction of an unsundered soul was.
Venat, on the other hand, felt like strife was what made life exciting. She sundered all living beings to end the stagnancy and make mankind have purpose again. She is pretty much the most fricked up one, but her goal keeps the Scions and the rest of Eorzea alive. So, they have a hard preference.
Yup. Especially when now you have the scions saying things like “how dare you destroy one world in favor of the other.” It’s the hypocrisy and double standards that do it for me. They had no problem calling out Emet in ShB. It’s absolute delusion to think Venat gets even a fraction of that amount of flak. The story contradicts itself numerous times so yeah, in the end it absolutely is character failure, and to think it isn’t is again, delusion and willful ignorance.
I wouldn't even say I'd have to agree with the stance. If I'm honest, I'd be pretty okay with the pendulum swinging the other way as well. As you've said, the Scions aren't impartial, and they are well and truly removed from Venat's part in the tale. I could also have lived with a scene of them acknowledging it and writing it off as a "necessary act" or what have you. Even should the Scions be fine with it, the acknowledgement of "WTF" in and of itself (during the lull after the dust settled, not at the height of the action) would've at least made sense. The Scions are just people at the end of the day, and people have a tendency to be perfectly fine with things that don't directly affect them even if those things are pretty messed up.

The issue for me though, and what makes her a villain is that she chose a world that she didnt even live in yet over her own and gave up on her people without even warning them and giving them a proper chance. To me, it's less of a gamble to trust your people who have far more potential and power than that of the sundered. Not to mention her whole plan? Yeah, it relied upon not even just pure luck, but contrivance. She had only intended for Emet to escape the sundering. However, its only due to Elidibus being around that we even make it to Elpis in the first place. Her plan on all sides sucked. It relies on plot contrivances and not thinking too hard to make it believable. Versus her working with her people to come up with a solution. Thats the entirety of the issue here, and the fact none of the scions call her out on sacrificing her world for ours when they then try and preach the same to Golbez is hypocrisy at its finest. Venat worked with her own people - it's just that being far more familiar with everyone including her former Convocation co-workers (like Lahabrea), she decided that their were other people that were better to confide in to work towards a solution without accelerating the disaster. Except…from what we know they didn’t even know the full truth either, which is pretty bad when you remember she basically consumed their souls yet couldn’t even bother to tell them the full truth. Also she worked with them to create the sundering plan. That isn’t working with her people against the current threat. That’s her working with her followers on her own plan which consists of forsaking her people.
It's said in game that her intention with sundering was for mankind to gain control over Dynamis and use it to defeat Meteion, but it also made mankind more susceptible to her. It was truly an absolute gamble, and she seemed okay with risking mankind's extinction. Sure, she had the moon prepped for escape, but it's questionable how well that would have worked.

Yes, you used to have Cure, Raise, and Stoneskin by default because you had to have Conjurer leveled to unlock and had access to their crossclass skills. Their Raise couldn't be used in combat though from what I remember. It's been a while.

the total amount of souls on hydaelyn and its reflections have increased from the time of the sundering, new people that are born when there's not a reincarnating soul drifting around just get issued a fresh new one by the lifestream. though that's probably going to stop for a generation or so on the source because of all the ancient souls in Zodiark being liberated and sent back wholesale into the cycle of reincarnation

not everyone who sees a starshower unlocks the echo or can hear hydaelyn, it doesn't mean they aren't shards of ancients. the little kid you can talk to at the vineyard in the crystarium talks about how some people heard hydaelyn speak and some didn't and wondered if becoming a great adventurer would mean finding out about what the voice was and who it came from

Don't worry bro I went through the same thing, I didn't even bother with the firmament and diadem until I started levelling my second crafter, that's how fricking dumb I am.
But basically, it's pretty simple: for your crafter they'll want you to basically make a bunch of collectables that you turn into one NPC in the firmament, giving you some fat stack of XP and other bonus goodies, the higher the quality you make it the better the rewards, you'll need ingredients from the diadem and one "base" ingredient from the rest of the game, here in this screenshot you can see that for the first one they want you to use 6 skybuilders' iron ores, which you get from the firmament or the diadem or the market board if you're lazy, and one "normal" iron ore to make a skybuilders' alloy, that you get from regular old eorzea.
That's all it is, a glorified collectable system.
It'll probably have to be from the MB... if I have to have mining or some other gathering class leveled to gather the ore in the Diadem or Firmament I'm fricked

I think you just need them at level 10 or something. It also floods you with exp.

Do firmiment as soon as you get to level 20 on a crafter, you can do 20 > 60 in a few hours for cheap just using firmament

Yeah, every 6.x5 patch they add a step which is literally just saving up 1500 tomes again. So after 6.55 you'll be able to complete a relic from start to finish just by saving 6000 tomes. in 7.x when they change it to poetics it'll be even worse. I really fricking hope they announce a Eureka for Dawntrail or the game is dead to me.

The intrigue comes from who is the mysteryhomie and where the frick did they go along with the black rose plot building up in the background (which doesn't really get a good payoff but it's still interesting in the moment )
For me it was the opposite. 4.1 is kinda good but has the infamous Anata summoning in the powwow plus A WHOLE FRICKING LAKSHMI FIGHT instance. I didn't give a shit about Yotsuyu so the Doma stuff bored me to tears, but things heating up again with the Empire, Gaius back, Zenos condemned to a mortal body, all of it looked like things were going places.

The text is just more flowery in English and that was an artistic decision from the start. They were going for the Ivalice feeling from 1.0, so they localized it the same way Tactics and FFXII were.

I love Final Fantasy 14, but does anyone else feel like the UI just blows ass? The itemization of armour and weapons and the endless nested menus just feels like it's a hang-on from PS3/FF11. I never feel excited or even understand what's happening when I get a new piece of armour, and I can't even begin to start with the crafting system since I feel like I'm looking at unreadable spreadsheets. I always just play the main quest and quit since even the chat function/company menus inhibits my ability to socialize. Doesn't help that addons don't seem to be supported as well as in shit like WoW so I don't know how I could begin to fix it.

FFXI actually had good itemization though. The boring gear in this game is just a result of sterile balancing and strict vertical progression.

It's treated that way because Hydaelyn's followers don't go around mass-murdering while laughing like a 1960s cartoon villain.
What Zodiark initially did was treated as a good thing in the story and Venat didn't disagree with that either. But going beyond what seemed to be the initial scope of His purpose seemed to cross a line that she, and evidently enough people to successfully oppose His power, disagreed with.
The key difference in how they're treated is because the story is told from the WoL's point of view and throughout the entire game we've been opposing Zodiark and the Ascians, who wanted to kill us and destroy the world. Hydaelyn meanwhile saved our lives and gave us the power to fight back and protect our own existence while the Ascians continued to go around killing people and sowing chaos. To most people, I would think that committing random acts of villainy while dressed in masks and black robes is short-hand for "these are the bad guys". And that's how the game was for years with nothing else to really make us question things.
That sort of stasis quo went on until 3 expansions and 6/9 years into the story when the writers sort of did a paradigm shift. While it was revealed that Hydaelyn kept the truth from us, the Ascians didn't stop to explain themselves correctly either and until after trying to kill us and failing several times. This explanation of why being revealed until many, many hours in the story's life and years in real time also makes it difficult to walk back the behavior of the Ascians from before and reconcile them as a sympathetic party.
The writers wrote themselves into a corner trying to make things grey despite things being pretty black and white before. They attached complexity to a story that was previously "light good, darkness bad" and I think they fumbled the attempt.
So just to make sure im getting this correctly, you believe they had a strict good vs evil story going on until around ShB where they decided to shift to a greyer narrative. If i read that correctly then good because we’re in agreement, then. My issue doesn’t necessarily lie with anything prior to that though. I understand retcons and things like Zodiark just being referred to as bad and evil back then. I have 0 issue with that. My issue is after* the devs specifically state in interviews etc that they’re writing the story to center around grey morality and neither side being right or wrong, they then come out with heavy, yes I’m going to use the word again, bias, towards Venat.
I somewhat understand the explanations of the scions or WoL not questioning her even if i personally don’t agree with it myself. However, when you have things like her minion specifically calling her a hero, that isn’t grey. When you have things like the Codex which is meant to serve as a lore guide for new players specifically showing heavy bias towards her side and calling her a primal of peace (she objectively is nothing of the sort and i think even she would agree with that,) there is an issue.
But we can even look at the smaller things as well. Interesting how she gets all this development and time even if it wasn’t that much yet both Elidibus and Zodiark got minuscule screentime in comparison. I don’t see a minion for either of them calling them heroes for standing for what they believe in. Or even the bare minimum of at least bringing up in Zodiark’s codex entry or realistically any of the scions offering any form of gratitude or thanks to Zodiark or Elidibus for saving us and the world. Literally if it wasn’t for either of them, we’d be dead.
The thing there is that 'controversial' can be taken in two fundamentally different ways with characters like Venat and Emet.
1. 'This character stands for and acted on things that aren't inherently agreeable and cause split emotional responses as people have different reactions to them. This is both true and intentional for Emet and Venat, and are a huge partof their joint popularity; neither would be nearly as popular if Emet were just a sassy boy with depression, and Venat was just a nice wine mom. Even Harchefant's popularity is falling off over time.
2. That a character actually has a split response among the fanbase in terms of 'like' or 'don't like', to the point of significant divides. FFXIV doesn't actually have many of these on a large scale, and the best I can think of (for VERY different reasons) are Lyse and Hildibrand.
I'd prefer to use the term 'polarizing', because neither is actually, by dictionary definition, 'controversial'; none of those characters caused controversies.
These are entirely separate definitions, and one doesn't inherently cause the other. Again, Emet and Venat are two of the most popular characters in the game, in very large part because of their emotionally and morally complex stories and deeds. (Granted, this isn't exactly a perfectly repeatable formula; Ysayle didn't exactly see the same bump, and I have some largely unrelated thoughts on why.) And on the other side of that coin, the reasons Lyse and Hildibrand get hate is in no way related to their views and actions, that range from ineffectual to nonexistent. I think using terms like 'controversial' or 'polarizing' relating to Venat (doesn't really happen around Emet) is basically an attempt to conflate the two as the same, when they absolutely aren't.

In ARR, Garlemalde and & Gaius are presented as having viable (albeit flawed) solution to existential threat posed by Primals and that life under Garlean rule has its positives as well. Even Varis himself had depth since the guy priorised Azys La instead of randomly genociding Vanu Vanus for the sake of Evulz.
All of this shades of gray gets abandoned in SB with the story repeatedly slamming GARLEANS BAD to your face. And the moment you get teased about any complexity like the Populares, it quickly gets reduced to GARLEANS BAD THIS EXCEPTION GOOD.
Zenos himself was handled so horribly that it took two expansions to actually restore what original SB MSQ already gave him: amazing fight to the death. EW finale against him was kino, but thematically unnecessary.

When you get down to it, yoship basically made XVI the only way he knew how: like an mmo. You have the step and fetch quests, you have the characters handing off items, the quest complete music, all of it. He basically just made another mmo because that's really all he's done besides one Dragon Quest game.
Not to say he shouldn't be blamed, but I don't entirely know what he could have done differently to fix it.
He could make it open world, but Nomura did that with XV and the main complaint was that the open world was empty and devoid of anything to do. You spent most of your time sitting in a car going down the road. There was no real off road adventure to be had because the overworld was empty.
He could change the side quests I guess, but there's only so many ways you can tell someone to give out 5 hearty soups. If he just cuts out side quests altogether then you may as well just make it only cutscenes and eliminate the gameplay. FFXVI can just be a movie not that I'd be opposed to that. FFXV got a movie and it didn't even relate to the game at all. Neither did the anime really.
One of the most common criticisms I see is just "it isn't turn based combat!" in which case... what do you expect? no one buys turn based games anymore. If you want them to return, I suggest you convince several million people to go out and buy Bravely Default and rate it 10 stars. Maybe that will convince Square people want TBC games again. Until then, this style isn't going away.
Story itself isn't that bad though. it's basically just taking all the high points from Game of Thrones and putting it into a video game. Could really do without the constant breaks and of course the active time maneuver cutscenes.
The most common reasonable complaint is that the core gameplay is very shallow due in part to the lack of enemy aggression and complexity and the raw power Clive has by the end of the game.
Every person I have seen play the game who has any experience with action games really like it at the start then start getting bored by the combat around the lead up to Titan and then are completely sick of it by Odin.
The issue with the side-quests is that the gameplay is not engaging enough to make sitting through minutes of exposition worth it and unless you really give a shit its not that deep till the end where most people are so fed up that they cannot muster the necessary goodwill to buy infir the narratives the sidequests are giving.

No new content until Dawntrail. So, a lot of end-game players are checking out for now.
I don't think I can truthfully say my position on the matter has much to do with being "not okay" with Venat's actions or those of Emet-Selch. It is after all just a story, and I do think both characters were written adequately in their respective roles. Both had their perceived justifications, and both found themselves in what most would consider impossible positions. Neither really had a means to bring about an end that would satisfy everyone. Both of them also have an unfathomable amount of blood on their hands. Neither of them were, in my opinion, "good." They were flawed people whose actions lead to flawed outcomes. In other words, they're both guilty as can be of omnicide.
What I'm not overly fond of is the lack of in-game negative response to the truth of what she did. It's the sort of thing the Scions would normally find positively revolting, but they seemed quite willing to just overlook it. The closest thing we really see to it being called out proper is in one of our responses to Omega on the matter. Quite frankly, I don't think I would have even become embroiled in the numerous conversations on the subject were it not for this particular thing. It just didn't jive with me for whatever reason. "What's good for the goose is good for the gander," as they say.
Ultimately, I suppose I can attribute some of it to the impression I was left with by Endwalker; that the writers tried to walk back some of the "morally grey" ShB brought to the table. I like nuance, intrigue, and moral quandaries with no right answer.
I've got no particular need to feel like my character is "right" in a given situation, and I definitely don't mind if it sometimes turns out their actions have horrible consequences. Sometimes doing what you think is right turns out be the opposite, and sometimes you find out the person or entity you believed in is just as flawed and broken as you are. Hell, sometimes you wind up just being flat out wrong and get a bunch of people killed -- or, for an example that befits the topic at hand, realize your story about the future was in part the inspiration for what transpired on Venat's end. It's fine for bad things to happen in fiction, but if they do, I'd much prefer to see the resulting social and/or emotional fallout. Consequences and emotional substance are very important parts of a story to me.
It really just comes down to exactly what Emet-Selch and Elidibus said. They were restoring their world. In their mind, the sundered weren't real people. The only hope was to restore mankind to the immortal race it once was. Everyone's soul is basically just a fraction of an unsundered soul was.
Venat, on the other hand, felt like strife was what made life exciting. She sundered all living beings to end the stagnancy and make mankind have purpose again. She is pretty much the most fricked up one, but her goal keeps the Scions and the rest of Eorzea alive. So, they have a hard preference.
Yup. Especially when now you have the scions saying things like “how dare you destroy one world in favor of the other.” It’s the hypocrisy and double standards that do it for me. They had no problem calling out Emet in ShB. It’s absolute delusion to think Venat gets even a fraction of that amount of flak. The story contradicts itself numerous times so yeah, in the end it absolutely is character failure, and to think it isn’t is again, delusion and willful ignorance.

I wouldn't even say I'd have to agree with the stance. If I'm honest, I'd be pretty okay with the pendulum swinging the other way as well. As you've said, the Scions aren't impartial, and they are well and truly removed from Venat's part in the tale. I could also have lived with a scene of them acknowledging it and writing it off as a "necessary act" or what have you. Even should the Scions be fine with it, the acknowledgement of "WTF" in and of itself (during the lull after the dust settled, not at the height of the action) would've at least made sense. The Scions are just people at the end of the day, and people have a tendency to be perfectly fine with things that don't directly affect them even if those things are pretty messed up.

The issue for me though, and what makes her a villain is that she chose a world that she didnt even live in yet over her own and gave up on her people without even warning them and giving them a proper chance. To me, it's less of a gamble to trust your people who have far more potential and power than that of the sundered. Not to mention her whole plan? Yeah, it relied upon not even just pure luck, but contrivance. She had only intended for Emet to escape the sundering. However, its only due to Elidibus being around that we even make it to Elpis in the first place. Her plan on all sides sucked. It relies on plot contrivances and not thinking too hard to make it believable. Versus her working with her people to come up with a solution. Thats the entirety of the issue here, and the fact none of the scions call her out on sacrificing her world for ours when they then try and preach the same to Golbez is hypocrisy at its finest. Venat worked with her own people - it's just that being far more familiar with everyone including her former Convocation co-workers (like Lahabrea), she decided that their were other people that were better to confide in to work towards a solution without accelerating the disaster. Except…from what we know they didn’t even know the full truth either, which is pretty bad when you remember she basically consumed their souls yet couldn’t even bother to tell them the full truth. Also she worked with them to create the sundering plan. That isn’t working with her people against the current threat. That’s her working with her followers on her own plan which consists of forsaking her people.
It's said in game that her intention with sundering was for mankind to gain control over Dynamis and use it to defeat Meteion, but it also made mankind more susceptible to her. It was truly an absolute gamble, and she seemed okay with risking mankind's extinction. Sure, she had the moon prepped for escape, but it's questionable how well that would have worked.

Yes, you used to have Cure, Raise, and Stoneskin by default because you had to have Conjurer leveled to unlock and had access to their crossclass skills. Their Raise couldn't be used in combat though from what I remember. It's been a while.

Don't worry bro I went through the same thing, I didn't even bother with the firmament and diadem until I started levelling my second crafter, that's how fricking dumb I am.
But basically, it's pretty simple: for your crafter they'll want you to basically make a bunch of collectables that you turn into one NPC in the firmament, giving you some fat stack of XP and other bonus goodies, the higher the quality you make it the better the rewards, you'll need ingredients from the diadem and one "base" ingredient from the rest of the game, here in this screenshot you can see that for the first one they want you to use 6 skybuilders' iron ores, which you get from the firmament or the diadem or the market board if you're lazy, and one "normal" iron ore to make a skybuilders' alloy, that you get from regular old eorzea.
That's all it is, a glorified collectable system.
It'll probably have to be from the MB... if I have to have mining or some other gathering class leveled to gather the ore in the Diadem or Firmament I'm fricked

The intrigue comes from who is the mysteryhomie and where the frick did they go along with the black rose plot building up in the background (which doesn't really get a good payoff but it's still interesting in the moment )
For me it was the opposite. 4.1 is kinda good but has the infamous Anata summoning in the powwow plus A WHOLE FRICKING LAKSHMI FIGHT instance. I didn't give a shit about Yotsuyu so the Doma stuff bored me to tears, but things heating up again with the Empire, Gaius back, Zenos condemned to a mortal body, all of it looked like things were going places.
