No they're not. I don't think any relevant MMO besides Runescape actually shares anything about their player or sub-count these days
When FFXIV players claim their subs are "published" they're referring to luckybancho's census, which is a total number of players who log in across a 4 month timespan. It has nothing to do with average concurrent subs. Plenty of people sub for 1 month and then immediately unsub - that's specifically what I do because the game never has more than a week's worth of content to do in a major patch.
It's extremely unlikely that it's the most popular mmo at the moment. It only briefly overtook WoW during their 9.1 disaster and when Asmonbald played the game for a week (before immediately and unambiguously realizing how boring it is 99% of the time).

It's the same reason Square Enix brags about having "27 million players". They conveniently leave out that this figure means total registered accounts across the entire history of the game, including all free trials, all bots, and every account that played for 20 minutes before quitting.

The massive population boost 5.3-6.0 was the worst thing to happen to 14, the game has reached record heights but because infinite profit ghouls seem to be most of Square has on their board this will now be the milestone it will be forever held to, it doesnt matter if they maintain millions of players for longer periods than any current mmo, if it doesnt hit that threshold again its dead.

My favourite expansion was Heavensward. Naysayers claimed it wasn't as good while it was Live, but I was enjoying it way more and more consistently than Stormblood, Endwalker, and even Shadowbringers.

With all the sales lowering the game price to about 20€ from time to time it's a non issue. Tier list? I want to start climbing just for its own sake, but never really got into it.
I don't really like tier list, but at the very least, and that's the one thing I really like about the game, every job is viable in CC.
Though for ease of climbing you'd probably want an impactful job instead of a supporting one.
DRG is very good for that, since it deal a frickton of damage and has a strong damaging multitarget LB, its only con is having no CC.
This is trash as frick advice, DRG is incredibly stable; you don’t mind getting random DRGs on your team. The best strat for queuing is learning jobs played by moron magnets (except SAM, never pick SAM). You’re going to rank faster learning WAR simply by dodging all the trash WAR players that could have been on your team. DRG is one of those jobs where you don’t mind if the worst player on your team is DRG, same with WHM. The secret to queuing is dodging anchors, above all.
I'd rather have a strong DRG on my team though.

Anchor is “you worst player that dies and does nothing” it’s not job specific (well, it’s usually SAM if they are picked). The game is basically over if one person is not pressing buttons, it’s why wintrading is so effective.
Typically shit players pick blue jobs and green jobs. Lot of bad MNKs. More of the frontliners because they don’t know how to not die.

Queuing just for victories is different than ranked since your pool of players is greater. For example in casual you will see a LOT of completely reapers, but if you switch to reaper to try and "snipe" them, well its casual so you have some other moron on your team. In that case I would go with the other anon's advice and just spam higher impact jobs.
For SAM specifically, its just actual dogshit. Easily the worst job, its balanced around the very gimmick-y "one-shot" LB that 1) charges too slowly to be useful most of the time 2) doesnt work on good players. I think it was the only one not picked in the NA LAN tournament. I(t is basically not allowed to be good, which makes sense because the LB is potentially very cheese. It will not be good unless they rework the LB.

Back when i was grinding my way to the arbiter title i used to put up 30 victories per day to get it on a relatively quick timelapse, the amount of people i got acquanited with while playing that got butthurt due to my actions kept me fueled all the way through the grind.
There was this one ultimate raider redmage who as soon as it saw me during every match he would latch onto me to try and kill me because i kept dunking his ass and emoted a few times at him, that was enough for me to become his mortal enemy until one day he broke out on my /tells i managed to get him banned for like three days or so and thanks to that he ended up quitting the game cause he was butthurt mad the XIV GM's punished him.

So basically if someone is zipping around fast as frick, using their purify frame perfect, you may want to legit ignore them and focus their player that doesn’t know how to heal. Again this is for casual not ranked. Focus is a big thing, consider HP and MP a shared team resource.
Basically don’t see it as what jobs are good as a whole but what good jobs are good from the perspective of the queue. If you know male midlander mc fluoride stare is awful and playing at the same time as you picking BRD, BRD is the best choice. Even if BRD is way less of a “carry” than something like DRG You want to pick the jobs the bad players are playing at that moment in time because you will dodge them
It's a losing battle, these people are coping with the fact they can't climb to Crystal again after being able to do so in Season 1 when everyone was shit and there was no demotion, no amount of (lack of) evidence of hacking will convince them that they're suffering from crippling skill issue.

You'd have to be actually blind to not notice the day and night difference.

Biggest offender is how fricking awful the combat has become, they need to dial the encounter difficulty back and make jobs way more engaging. No one enjoys a 2 minute meta. Tanks being DPS that the boss hits is shit design, healers being actually a detriment in your casual content is shit design, DPS jobs having no depth except for the most autistic spreadsheet calculations is shit design, body checks are shit design.

As much as I like some of the Scions, having them all along for the ride from the start feels like a mistake. Part of what made HW great was warming up to a bunch of characters who you didn't know or were generally disliked up to that point in an alien enviroment.

I don't know, I really don't, I just frick around, doing one things one day then another and I'm content, I ain't throwing shit at anyone who do enjoy sweating in raid or pvp, it's just that I have my chocobo so I don't need to go hunt for mount, titles are an eyesore so I don't hunt for them and never slapped any next to my character's name, I'm an omnicrafter so I can almost make anything that I want or need, from gear to glam to just simple money, so none of this shit really mean anything to me. Sometime, I wonder why I even play this game, but somehow I have my own fun.

I guess what I'm trying to say is just that I have a hard time understanding the players who chase the titles.

The minigame has been abandoned since the moment it got introduced, shit never recieved any meaningful update whatsoever and it's pretty fun once you get used to the jankyness of the movement, it's legit depressing how the dev team never paid any attention to it, or most of the gold saucer for that matter.
What would the point? Everyone at the top 100 would be sharing rank 1 because we'd all have a 9th pedigree chocobo with 50 stars, with max stamina, endurance and cunning plus super sprint. There's no challenge once you reach the actual top of chocobo "racing".
Fastest race time, like in Mario Kart. Doesn't even need an official leaderboard, it can just be a community thing, I'd like to see what times people with maximum autism can get.
The issue is that "max autism" does nothing for you when RNG is the only real deciding factor once you have a perfect unit. You're already the fastest in the track, you're already avoiding all the traps, and not even meteors will stop you. The only thing that will improve shortest times will be getting lucky with chests, and even then odds will be extremely low since Dash is already rare in the first spot of a chest, so getting 3-4 in a row will be a once-in-a-lifetime deal. And once people realize this, cheats/hacks will start appearing (being sold, more likely) meaning the top spot will NEVER be achievable natty.
Therefore, a leaderboard when the top spot is entirely decided by chance is a bad idea, since it will only reward exploits.

Nobody has any idea what Dawntrail is going to entail. Sure the teaser gave the 'taking a vacation to a tropical paradise to relax' vibe, but come on. You don't expect that to be the case after like the second dungeon do you? This is probably going to be the start of another long multi-xpac story about which we presently know practically nothing. And as for the gameplay, if you have played this game all the way to 7.0 then you either like the gameplay or you really like wasting your time. DT will be more of the same. And though we can complain about this or that getting dumbed down (I for one hope they don't further ruin AST ) the gameplay has basically stayed the same MMO combat since the beginning.

He may as well be a Paladin functionally, yeah, Knight in FF1 was a Warrior upgrade that could cast low level white spells. None of the games to feature him as a character since then actually treat him as a Paladin, they treat him as a Warrior or Fighter with a lot of light-based skills, like Dissidia and Stranger of Paradise (I think SoP treats him as a Knight and not a Paladin in the boss fight against him)
XIV gives him a smattering of skills from Dragoon, Mystic Knight, and Paladin in the 5.3 trial and EX trial, and leans the heaviest on Mystic Knight
SoP's WoL is more of a Paladin. He uses some holy spells and most of his melee skills are imbued with light.
It's a bit vague in SoP since Knight's guard skill is also light. Paladin meanwhile just gets a holy + strength buff at full HP

This is not part of SGE's job identity in harder content (or any content for that matter). Soteria and Kardia don't have enough potency to really affect outcomes. If the boss is autoing hard enough you usually still need spot heals, and if not, it's pointless overhealing.
