At this point, what purpose do these people serve? They do this for every major release of any major game. They did this for RE4R, they did this for TotK, they did it for God of War and Horizon. They'll do it for Spiderman, they'll probably do it for Starfield, they'll do it for FF7:Rebirth, and they'll do it for the popular "meme game" everyone talks about too. They're doing it again with FFXVI. The only exception are games with already bad PR where it's more acceptable to trash it like Redfall or something like that.
Do companies pay these people to be overly excited about their games like this all the time? You can only say "this is the best [game/demo] I've ever played" so many times and ways before people stop taking you seriously anymore.

The plan was just to murder the Duke and Clive and then escape back to Sanbreque with Joshua. That way the Emperor can marry the Mom and get political legitimacy for his annexation of Rosaria, and he also now controls two Dominants which will tip the balance of power in his favour in the war between Sanbreque and Waloed

Of course it is subjective, but I thought the demo did a great job of pulling you into the story and leaving lots of hooks to speculate on before the full release. The voice acting, music and overall presentation (frame drops aside) were top notch.

Yeah, since the Duke's father who was also presumably the Dominant had died. Phoenix itself lives forever, but that doesn't mean that the one controlling it can't.
I caved an bought a discounted disc-ps5 off amazon. I wanted a cheaper digital one but it wouldn't have been delivered before the game releases. I'll probably try and return it afterwards.
Anyone who cares about final fantasy will already be in the playstation ecosystem. It won't do much for people who don't care about the franchise. It's not a spiderman, zelda or starfield which will make people buy a console just to experience the hype. Outside of gaming forums nobody is talking about final fantasy like they do with those other games.
In the Awakening trailer, you can see that the scene of Benedikta leaving was originally focused on Barney scoffing, and the scene of Joshua healing Clive after training had something to do with his hand.
Nah it's progress carries over so it wouldn't really make sense, although in regards to the Barney scene it could be another flashback to then flashforward, showing the conversation after Benedikta leaves.

That's a good point. Perhaps the bit with Barnabas occurs after the flashback finishes as we travel back to the Dhalmekian/Iron Kingdom war in the desert. Seems like he might be sending Benedikta after Jill/Shiva, which is what we're trying to stop with Cid in the second part of the demo.
Joshua healing Clive is harder, I wonder if that is part of the eventual flashback that'll show the "true" series of events that the demo shows, a sort of MGS5 thing, when Clive comes to accept that he was the one who killed Joshua and masters Ifrit so that he can take revenge on those truly responsible (mystery homies?). I think we have a slightly incorrect impression because a lot of the extra abilities we have in the second part of the demo aren't actually available at that portion of the game, it is obvious that we shouldn't have Garuda's powers yet because Clive is seen absorbing them when he has a fricking stroke at the end of the demo. And clearly there hasn't been time for him to take Hugo's powers yet.
A friend invited me over to try the demo as I don't have a PS5. He left me at his place while he went shopping for a few hours. He said pic related happened to him, and it did to me as well. Got a PS5 the next day. Also looking forward to 7Re.

I'm genuinely considering pulling the trigger on a PS5 over the entire world gushing over the XVI demo. I might wait until reviews are about before I actually do it. Even then I might do it anyway because fricking Rebirth is also a timed exclusive and I don't want to wait a year again.
Honestly as a PS4gay main reason I'm not just upgrading and getting rid of my PS4 is just there possibly still being design frickery on the current PS5 models, that and possibly a PS5 Pro sooner or later. If they'd had that at this point I might just have gone and bought one despite having upgraded my PC mostly for XVI.
It's probably more like 9 months to a year. They probably aren't even allowed to speak about the PC port till 2024. They'll probably want to get it out as soon as possible but they'd still use some marketing time on it. Worst case scenario they wait even longer to align it with an eventual DLC release.
That giant fricking whirpool/crater thing is extra suspicious given that the world seems to be fricking hollow. The map makes it hard to tell, but is the entire island chain south of the Drake's Breath Mother Crystal blighted? Or just the middle bit with non-Blighted land below it?
I think the dark bits are meant to represent land that is irrevocably blighted, but because the blight is spreading there are patches appearing in otherwise aether-rich land, the fact that this is happening is what forces the Duke's hand in war against Iron Kingdom. He can't let them hold control of his Mother Crystal when their supposedly fertile land is beginning to sprout these pustules of Blight.
I'm guessing the bit south of Waloed is where Cid (and maybe Benedikta?) is from? Presumably he made a deal with Barnabas to join his growing Empire in return for amnesty for his people to resettle in their lands. I think Cid sort of represents the idealist rebel against the status quo of the world order, and he thought that Barnabas would be the sort of Napoleonic figure who could deliver the revolution to the world, but he grew disillusioned when he realised that Barnabas has no idealistic principles at all, he seems like a Zenos-esque fight autist instead based on his attitude in the Dhalmek meeting we see.
Seems like the blight is just a sort of line across the south-western bit of the map. They haven't been as hard hit as Waloed or the Northern Territories, but it is clearly getting worse in Rosaria based on the Duke preparing to go to war over the spread.

They're obviously aspected. Drake's Breath is bright orange and summons Phoenix and Ifrit (fire). Drake's Head is bright white and summons Bahamut (light). Drake's Spine is purple and summons Odin (dark). Drake's Fang is yellow and summons Titan (earth). So we can pretty confidently say that the giant blue Mother Crystal that is right next to the ocean (Drake's Tail) is water aspected and associated with Leviathan. The fact that there's apparently no Dominant of Leviathan, despite a water Mother Crystal existing, will be one of the mysteries of the plot I assume.

We've seen it run at 60 at PAX and SoP. The demo is a much older build. We also saw more graphical options including a motion blur setting at PAX. Thank God, because the motion blur is extreme.

As someone that has a lot of complaints about FFXV the least of it is heal spells. Given it's just an action game with no mana or anything, and it's relatively easy on the normal difficulty, it makes sense they would go with the narrative reason why Clive can't heal.
I'm sure he'll inherit either the actual Phoenix eichon or you'll play as a revived Joseph or some shit late game and will have healing stuff.

Did the eikonic mode as close to what I think it will be on release. Only phoenix equipped with a 2nd ability. Actually flowed super well and allowed me to get more accustomed to Clives sword and magic abilties, burning blade and charged magic is really great once you start weaving them into combos.

Yoship probably also acknowledges that taking Sony's exclusivity money means they can easily fund a quality PC port, and SE seem to be quite happy to release stuff on PC much later and cash in on a very long tail for their games, more so than targeting big up front sales. The nier raid series is very polarizing. I think a lot of die-hard nier fans were expecting something more, like being able to use the NG+ system in XIV to change the outcome of the raid or whatever, but that is a pretty unreasonable expectation given what alliance raids are in XIV. The previous raids were all either very important to the overall lore/story or expanded on other, less utilized countries/areas of the 14 world. The nier raids are a complete stand alone story that connect with nothing. You can skip them entirely and miss nothing.

Alternatively the Mother Crystals are somehow out of balance and that is causing aether to be drained out of the environment instead of being bloomed into the environment, and the summoning of alternate-Eikons like Ifrit is the Mother Crystals trying to correct that imbalance somehow.

Yes, they didn't want to show an area later in the game, but they wanted to give you a chance to play with a full set of 3 eikon powers. So they back-added some powers into that Garuda-pursuit-segment. Clive sucking the powers out of Benedikta will be the first moment he realises that he apparently has weird blue mage powers, and presumably Cid will gift him Ramuh's blessing soon after. The Dominant that both Cid and Clive, but also Benedikta, are pursuing is Jill (presumably weakened after her battle against Titan), so maybe she'll also give you the Blessing of Shiva fairly early on, so Phoenix/Ramuh/Shiva will be your early game moveset as the story shifts to you fighting against Hugo for whatever reason (presumably to help/protect Jill?)
that's actually pretty smart, giving a taste of powers in some not-far off climactic fight already seen in previews, but those powers are a different setup then youll have later so it wont get stale
If you can control an eikon it's usually only one, Clive can harness the power of multiple because a funny looking man and his hot assistant came to him in a dream and made him sign a contract with them.
We really have no idea. If it was just because he has the potential to be a Dominant, then wouldn't his Dad the Duke be able to do that as well? He is just as much a potential-Dominant as Clive, he was just born while his Dad (Clive and Joshua's Grandfather) was still alive and the active Phoenix Dominant. And if it is a power that any active Dominant can use, then why wouldn't Barnabas have succ'd Garuda and Ramuh powers already since both Beneditka and Cid are/were working with him? Seems like something weird and unique to Clive, the same way Ifrit existing at all is a shock and seems unique to Clive. I'm sure it is something they'll explore and we get into the plot of the game.

England produces a frickload more Shakespearean theatre actors then they have theatre companies able to put them to work. So they end up being super cheap (no american union) and very high quality VA. This is also how From gets such great English voice performances in their games. You don't hear voice acting like fricking Ariandel or something in many games.
Much less powerful than Hollywood unions, British actors and voice actors are notorious for being much cheaper to hire than their American counterparts.
Genuinely one of the best demos I've ever played. Pure kino. Got goosebumps when the two dominants were epically battling during the cutscene. Also never seen a game do qtes for doors and it was super badass, the PS5's adaptive triggers really shine here. Story is also great, it's refreshing to finally get a grimdark fantasy game with complex characters that have sex and are more than just one dimensional tropes like in GoT.
Gameplay is also pure bliss. It was so sick jumping into dudes and mashing square for a while, never had to use a potion either so wasnt frustrating at all. Flashy, beautiful graphics accentuate all of Clive's moves too and it ran at a solid 4k 60fps the whole time. The Eikon challenge was even better because I had variations of the same move but with different particle effects.

That way the Emperor can marry the Mom and get political legitimacy for his annexation of Rosaria, and he also now controls two Dominants which will tip the balance of power in his favour in the war between Sanbreque and Waloed

That's a good point. Perhaps the bit with Barnabas occurs after the flashback finishes as we travel back to the Dhalmekian/Iron Kingdom war in the desert. Seems like he might be sending Benedikta after Jill/Shiva, which is what we're trying to stop with Cid in the second part of the demo.
Joshua healing Clive is harder, I wonder if that is part of the eventual flashback that'll show the "true" series of events that the demo shows, a sort of MGS5 thing, when Clive comes to accept that he was the one who killed Joshua and masters Ifrit so that he can take revenge on those truly responsible (mystery homies?). I think we have a slightly incorrect impression because a lot of the extra abilities we have in the second part of the demo aren't actually available at that portion of the game, it is obvious that we shouldn't have Garuda's powers yet because Clive is seen absorbing them when he has a fricking stroke at the end of the demo. And clearly there hasn't been time for him to take Hugo's powers yet.

It's probably more like 9 months to a year. They probably aren't even allowed to speak about the PC port till 2024. I think the dark bits are meant to represent land that is irrevocably blighted, but because the blight is spreading there are patches appearing in otherwise aether-rich land, the fact that this is happening is what forces the Duke's hand in war against Iron Kingdom. He can't let them hold control of his Mother Crystal when their supposedly fertile land is beginning to sprout these pustules of Blight.
I'm guessing the bit south of Waloed is where Cid (and maybe Benedikta?) is from? Presumably he made a deal with Barnabas to join his growing Empire in return for amnesty for his people to resettle in their lands. I think Cid sort of represents the idealist rebel against the status quo of the world order, and he thought that Barnabas would be the sort of Napoleonic figure who could deliver the revolution to the world, but he grew disillusioned when he realised that Barnabas has no idealistic principles at all, he seems like a Zenos-esque fight autist instead based on his attitude in the Dhalmek meeting we see.
Seems like the blight is just a sort of line across the south-western bit of the map. They haven't been as hard hit as Waloed or the Northern Territories, but it is clearly getting worse in Rosaria based on the Duke preparing to go to war over the spread.
so if the ice crystal is somewhere in the northern territories, under the glacier, the spiky crystal in the south of waloed is cid's lightning crystal and the big blue one in middle Switzerland neutral city is the water crystal (that doesn't have a Dominant?), then where is Benedikta's wind crystal?

They're obviously aspected. Drake's Breath is bright orange and summons Phoenix and Ifrit (fire). Drake's Head is bright white and summons Bahamut (light). Drake's Spine is purple and summons Odin (dark). Drake's Fang is yellow and summons Titan (earth). So we can pretty confidently say that the giant blue Mother Crystal that is right next to the ocean (Drake's Tail) is water aspected and associated with Leviathan. The fact that there's apparently no Dominant of Leviathan, despite a water Mother Crystal existing, will be one of the mysteries of the plot I assume.

As someone that has a lot of complaints about FFXV the least of it is heal spells. Given it's just an action game with no mana or anything, and it's relatively easy on the normal difficulty, it makes sense they would go with the narrative reason why Clive can't heal.

Did the eikonic mode as close to what I think it will be on release. Only phoenix equipped with a 2nd ability. Actually flowed super well and allowed me to get more accustomed to Clives sword and magic abilties, burning blade and charged magic is really great once you start weaving them into combos.

I think a lot of die-hard nier fans were expecting something more, like being able to use the NG+ system in XIV to change the outcome of the raid or whatever, but that is a pretty unreasonable expectation given what alliance raids are in XIV. Then there are people that aren't really into nier and Yoko Taro stuff who were just confused by the content and tone, and frustrated by his satire of MMO mechanics with the super long, very bland weekly quest chain to unlock the ultimate ending.

The Nier raids were just thoroughly mediocre gameplay wise, they had annoying bullshit tacked onto the quest parts of them as Yoko Taro styled 'do this same thing multiple times because it's quirky' and I think the worst part of it, for most people, is that it did not add anything to the FF14 world/lore/story.
The previous raids were all either very important to the overall lore/story or expanded on other, less utilized countries/areas of the 14 world. The nier raids are a complete stand alone story that connect with nothing. You can skip them entirely and miss nothing.

based on shit in the trailers it seems like the Crystals themselves might be causing the blight.
I'm guessing they're either parasitically draining the planet (or whatever it is, the planet is fricking hollow) of aether and sending it to the Ancient progenitor race on the Moon/Metia(notDalmud). Alternatively the Mother Crystals are somehow out of balance and that is causing aether to be drained out of the environment instead of being bloomed into the environment, and the summoning of alternate-Eikons like Ifrit is the Mother Crystals trying to correct that imbalance somehow.

Barnabas' english VA is David Menkin, who didn't voice Zenos. I think he isn't talking in that meeting because he is a fightautist who finds diplomacy boring, so potentially similar in character to Zenos I guess.

Because he doesn't know how yet. Him SUCCing Garuda-power from Benedikta is the first time it actually happens in the game proper, that level we play won't actually have Titan and Garuda available yet in the full game because it occurs more or less immediately after the end of the first part of the demo.
I see, was the moveset artificially added in then? If so that explains how he doesn't know what's up yet, but doesn't explain why benedikta was so flabbergasted by his powers
Yes, they didn't want to show an area later in the game, but they wanted to give you a chance to play with a full set of 3 eikon powers. So they back-added some powers into that Garuda-pursuit-segment. Clive sucking the powers out of Benedikta will be the first moment he realises that he apparently has weird blue mage powers, and presumably Cid will gift him Ramuh's blessing soon after. The Dominant that both Cid and Clive, but also Benedikta, are pursuing is Jill (presumably weakened after her battle against Titan), so maybe she'll also give you the Blessing of Shiva fairly early on, so Phoenix/Ramuh/Shiva will be your early game moveset as the story shifts to you fighting against Hugo for whatever reason (presumably to help/protect Jill?)
that's actually pretty smart, giving a taste of powers in some not-far off climactic fight already seen in previews, but those powers are a different setup then youll have later so it wont get stale

If you can control an eikon it's usually only one, Clive can harness the power of multiple because a funny looking man and his hot assistant came to him in a dream and made him sign a contract with them.
We really have no idea. If it was just because he has the potential to be a Dominant, then wouldn't his Dad the Duke be able to do that as well? He is just as much a potential-Dominant as Clive, he was just born while his Dad (Clive and Joshua's Grandfather) was still alive and the active Phoenix Dominant. And if it is a power that any active Dominant can use, then why wouldn't Barnabas have succ'd Garuda and Ramuh powers already since both Beneditka and Cid are/were working with him? Seems like something weird and unique to Clive, the same way Ifrit existing at all is a shock and seems unique to Clive. I'm sure it is something they'll explore and we get into the plot of the game.

it's amazing what happens when you hire people who actually study and practice drama, most VAs are basically e-celeb tier
England produces a frickload more Shakespearean theatre actors then they have theatre companies able to put them to work. So they end up being super cheap (no american union) and very high quality VA. This is also how From gets such great English voice performances in their games. You don't hear voice acting like fricking Ariandel or something in many games.

The soul in this game is off the charts.
Genuinely one of the best demos I've ever played. Pure kino. Got goosebumps when the two dominants were epically battling during the cutscene. Also never seen a game do qtes for doors and it was super badass, the PS5's adaptive triggers really shine here. Story is also great, it's refreshing to finally get a grimdark fantasy game with complex characters that have sex and are more than just one dimensional tropes like in GoT.
Gameplay is also pure bliss. It was so sick jumping into dudes and mashing square for a while, never had to use a potion either so wasnt frustrating at all. Flashy, beautiful graphics accentuate all of Clive's moves too and it ran at a solid 4k 60fps the whole time. The Eikon challenge was even better because I had variations of the same move but with different particle effects.
