grey market sellers are largely a meme nowadays compared to how cheap they used to be back in the day
just go to isthereanydeal and check which store sells the game you're looking for the cheapest, then check grey market ones like cdkeys and instant gaming to see if its any cheaper just in case

They use stolen credit cards and bank accounts to buy keys.
The credit card buys keys, card gets shut down, mastercard takes the hit and arent going to go chasing after keys for small thefts.
It costs less for them to just close the card than it does to go chasing after them.

it's that or they steal keys from game devs while using excusing it with a "review"
steam curators are just a mask for key resellers to steal from indie game devs

        Anonymous

There was a video on YouTube, I can't find it now but it was from an indie dev who bought a grey market key for his own game to find out where they were coming from. Turns out it's mostly just steam curators. A lot of them ask for keys for review purposes and because they had hundreds of thousands of followers he assumed they were legit but then they just flip the keys on kinguin.

      >more likely the vendor bought them at bulk when it was X% off
most normies seem oblivious to the fact that shit goes on sale at all. I make a lot of fricking money on the side bulk buying switch games when they're on sale then waiting a month or two and reselling them for near full price again on amazon. Just recently for example some first party nintendo title was on sale for $35, it almost never gets a sale so I bought around 50 copies of it and resold every copy for $59 a month later and pocketed over $1k side profit for a couple hours effort. I've made anywhere between $8 to $15k a year over the past 6 years doing this just with switch games and a couple hours of my time per month. I'm not autistic enough to do it full time over a broad range of platforms and genres but I can easily see someone making $100k++ per year doing it if they were dedicated, basically treating it as a full time job.

Used them maybe 3 times and never regretted it. That said I don't trust them or their sources and I would advise anyone to avoid having to use their service unless you absolutely need that steam key for a delisted game for autisms sake. Trust me, $20 off a game is not worth the penalties that come with being caught in the web.

Sketchy key sites that many have a track record of buying keys with stolen credit cards. If you're lucky they are buying keys from regions that have lower prices for their keys. I would strongly advise against giving these people your credit card information. If you're going to purchase anything use a prepaid visa gift card. Honestly unless the game is multiplayer focused. Just pirate it.

Steam doesn't care if you buy a third party key and it gets reported as stolen because steam doesn't make money off key sales. When you buy a key off a reseller or an official store like greenman, fanatical or humble bundle you aren't putting money into valves pocket and arent a customer to them

              Anonymous

Places like GMG through deals they have with publishers who have deals with Valve. Its allowed because it keeps people on the steam market place. That's a bit different from the grey market and their shady shit.

that doesn't save you. just like if you buy a real world stolen item without knowing it's stolen, you're still liable for trafficking and possessing stolen goods and will get fined/go to jail for it.

Well, right now you are knowing, sites like Fanatical, Humble Bundle, Green Man Gaming or Indie Gala, are the ones that sell games in a legitimate way
G2A, Eneba, Kinguin and similar, have never been linked to publishers or developers, they are resellers for a reason, so they get the keys from a third party
And for what you answered before, pic rel, happens if the key was obtained in a non-legitimate way, or you can have your account blocked if it was obtained with stolen cards

          Anonymous

Answer is to not be a fricking moron. If a $70 game is being sold for $5 on release something is fishy. Also, potential buyers need to keep track of bundles out there. Especially stuff like Humble Choice as people sell their unwanted keys the moment those hit live.

It's fine, never had an issue with them. If you want the features of steam for a game but don't want to pay as much its the way to go, but most of the time steam sales are good enough. Can occasionally find indie or older games very cheap there which is cool. Also the only way to get delisted titles.
    >bruh just pirate
If I can own it that's easier since I can redownload it at any point plus I get cheevos and updates anyway. Also easy access to it on my eck with cloud saves.
Same goes to creamapi, never had an issue with it and don't understand why you would shill for either piracy or steam when the middleground option of keysites and pirating DLC is better in some areas.

Didn't access it in a while, it seems they reworked the UI too. Unfortunately I don't think I can filter between official stores and keyshops and it doesn't have my region's currency. Clean UI though and bigger news spot, I like that.

You can toggle if you want only Official stores or official and keysites. It also lets you see the price adjusted with the fees regarding your payment method like VISA or paypal. Doesn't account for the bullshit fees they add at the end but only shitty sites like GAMVIO and Kinguin do that. CDKeys and IG never did

G2A is consistently more expensive than countless websites that just have employees buy keys in a different region and sell to you. Not saying there can't be fraud there too, but it seems like there's no reason for there to be, when the best way to get a massive amount of keys to resell is just buy them from a different region, which is still a legitimate purchase.
G2A is more like an eBay of video game keys, except instead of just always having a money back guarantee, you have to pay extra for it at checkout, which is just another thing that makes the price worse.
I don't know why G2A is still in business. More expensive than the more legit competition. Maybe in some regions G2A is still cheaper? Definitely not in USD.

      >I don't know why G2A is still in business.
Because, for a hot minute, G2A was advertised everywhere
Most gaming sites, a shitload of gayming youtubers and streamers, etc
The issue is that people just tend to stick by what they know, and "G2A can't possibly be a scam if they're advertising everywhere, riiiight???"

I've heard a few cases, but they were resolved
One time I pre-purchased a ESO edition that was meant to come with the newest DLC, on the ESO website it mentioned that I'd be able to just play the base game until the DLC released, so I assumed I'd get a key, activate it, and start playing. Turned out they only gave the on release. I asked for a refund because I'd rather wait, fully expecting being told to frick off, but they gave me the money within the hour and later on started adding warnings on pre-order pages saying you won't get the key until the actual game releases.
That shit was unbelievably based, not only refunded my dumbass despite having to obligation to, but they also realized they had an issue communicating that shit and started adding those warnings
G2A's service is utter dogshit compared to theirs
