They were better. Everything was. The sheer amount of remakes and reboots across all media should tell you that. Corperations focused on nothing but profit have distilled everything down in an attempt to mass produce success and in doing so have strangeled all innovation, forcing everything to adapt itself into a standardized format they can cram all the "successful stuff" into with zero regard for whether those things are compatible. The world of games and movies has been reduced to executives chasing the most recent winning formula which itself is a copy of another copy of a remake of a much better game from 2004.
They were obviously better, but people do tend to look at these games with rose-colored glasses and forget that they also have flaws
Always remember that the second-ever Pokemon game was already a full-price rerelease designed to cross-promote a TV cartoon that was already designed to cross-promote the games and other merchandise
They were pre-global branding so their design philosophy was way more concise, extremely predictable and comfortable of course but it was bearable because poke-mania died down during that time, meaning expectations weren't super high. Gen I favoritism is purely nostalgia goggles though, the games were dogshit.
yeah, so dogshit that it sold 50 bazillion copies and inspired 50 bazillion rehashed sequels that you'll claim are better despite playing the exact same way lol
Every Pokemon game on the DS is peak. It was the golden age of the franchise from a purely quality standpoint. You can always judge the health of a franchise by its spin-offs, after all. Gen 5 is the low point of this era but still mogs everything that came after it, a fact that has permanently mindbroken /vp/ and inspired daily seethe. Pokémon’s downfall began with the 3DS, and it died on the Switch. I’d take SM again over the mediocre dogshit we have now.
>You can always judge the health of a franchise by its spin-offs >Yeah, Gen 5 is the lowest point for spin-offs but I'm not going to count it 🙂
Really compelling argument
Honestly it's impressive how DP has both performance issues and multiple levels of game design decisions that make the game miserable to simply play on a moment to moment basis. Like, at least XY has the common courtesy to only have performance issues for the most part.
Not even close. Going from gen 3 to 5 is like coming out of warp speed. Try it yourself.
Aren't the Gen 3 titles the only ones consistently 60 FPS? I know Gen 6 has 60 FPS exclusively in menus for some fricking reason. Hell, I'm not even sure Gen 1 is 60 FPS, I wouldn't doubt GF was somehow incapable of making it work somehow.
yes, gen v was a disgrace that killed the series. 3DSlop dug up its corpse and raped it even more.
objectively better on every metric. rse, frlg, dpp, hgss are the best games
1>>3>>2>>>>4>>>>>>7>>5>6>>>8
Hope that clears it up for you OP
Only Gen 1 and Gen 6 exist wtf?
yes, kanto and kanto's b***h are all you will ever need.

They were painfully slow. Thank god gen 5 gave us at least two fast DS pokemon game.
All the DS games are painfully slow. The GBA games were the fastest ever. It would be cool if they made fast games again.
Gen 5 is about the same speed as Gen 3 though.
Not even close. Going from gen 3 to 5 is like coming out of warp speed. Try it yourself.
I did. Gen 5 was somewhat slower, but overall I couldn't notice a real difference. It's literally only noticeable if you flip between the two.
stadium 1+2 and battle frontiers are the hardest things in all of the gens, so yes
It's because they're cohesive. Gens 3 and 4 both stem from Gen 2's development.

Both
The series peaked with Gen 5. Gen 6 started all the madness
discord raider
Why are you describing yourself?
yeah that only works when we do it

>the games were dogshit
Not at all. Gen 1 is still unbeaten in terms of pacing
yeah, so dogshit that it sold 50 bazillion copies and inspired 50 bazillion rehashed sequels that you'll claim are better despite playing the exact same way lol

they were actually better
even the gen 1-4 champions were better
anime as well
RS and especially E had the best storyline.
Gens 1 and 3 were good. 2 and 4 were dogshit.
>gen 1-3
because they were actually better
>gen 4
nostalgia goggles
Gen 1 and 2 were good. Gen 3 was mid and Gen 4 is hard carried by HGSS which is just a remake of the Gen 2 games.
The only thing I don't like about gen 4 is slow battles
and slow movement
and slow saving (DP exclusive)
Honestly it's impressive how DP has both performance issues and multiple levels of game design decisions that make the game miserable to simply play on a moment to moment basis. Like, at least XY has the common courtesy to only have performance issues for the most part.

No x and y was somehow more boring than gen 4 with the addition of even more homosexualy characters and gay shit.
>Aren't the Gen 3 titles the only ones consistently 60 FPS?
yes
They're so much better it's not even close and x and y and the shitch games are 0/10 imafine babies tier shovelware
Gen 1 is powered by nostalgia, the other 3 gens can stand on their own
