The only place you see this is coomer art and vidya art. RPGs have always been more restrained.

if your symbol doesn't exist in the collective subconscious, it has no relevance in the modern world.

just like how if a tattoo has no personal significance to your life, it is just a fashion statement.

In 300 years people will be tattooing Nike' on their childrens earlobes to ward off evil spirits.

Depends on the individual bathing suit.

I live in the deep countryside, so I find myself totally naked in the wilds from time to time. nothing weird, just dislike wasting time putting on clothes If you don't mind all the insect bites you're gonna take, there's actually nothing stopping you from wandering around naked or semi-naked. Provided your original outfit didn't have any special protection / convenience tools included.

Really strongly depends on a lot of things. From powers, to where the adventure is taking place, to what the adventurer is doing.
For example it makes total sense for many superhero style characters due to their powers. It also would make sense for acrobat characters in reasonable climates or characters who don't/can't use armor and are in a area with a lot of water and swimming that isn't super cold.

Like it probably wouldn't make sense for a generic fighter/knight/paladin/etc who uses armor for defense. Nor would it make sense for most to wear something like that in extreme environments unless they were supernaturally resistance to the elements.

But a acrobatic monk on a pirate ship or a mage who specializes in water magic while on the shore. Makes total sense and isn't weird at all.

I'd describe it more as liberating

It's comfortable and traditional for an elf, and fashionable amongst the people who look up to elves.

Is going adventuring in a bunnysuit uncomfortable or comfortable?

According to the bunnies themselves (alright, Gloria Steinem, but she counts), the playboy bunnie suits are extremely uncomfortable.

When it comes to making outfit that's both revealing and comfortable you just can't beat nature's own design of birthday suit.

pretty comfortable I imagine, but it probably won't do much in way of protection

Isn't the implication that those mystic symbols are sewn into the robes because they're enchanted robes?

That's... not a bathing suit. That's lingerie with high heels to appeal to her male SO, and a damaged old robe tossed over it but not belted.

As with all clothes, it depends of the fit.

    Consider this: mage armor.
    >enter wizard's conference
    >convention hall contains dozens to hundreds of highly attractive people of both sexes wearing the bare minimum required to not start a public nuisance for indecent exposure plus some visitors here for their individual reasons
    >all of them have something floating around them, ranging from a glittering cloud to translucent armor of pure magic to heavily enchanted pieces of plate armor forged from arcane alloys
    >these protective entities are a point of pride for the wizards whose nature varies based on the wizard's preferred school of magic
    >local equivalent of an expensive suit in that regard
    >yfw you find out that transmutation is one of the most popular schools of magic, followed by abjuration and enchantment
