To be fair, this is a Japanese game and Yuna is supposed to be a marketable pure waifu. The original game doesn't even have her tell Tidus that she loves him in Japanese.
>Cloud >shagged Tifa under the Highwind
Why do morons keep trying to force this? And I say this as a moron who "ships" them. They didn't frick out in the open while everyone jerked off watching. >hurr durr but original plan was them walking out of a shed
not in the game
Yeah, no. Cloud and Tidus are too moronic to know what sex is, and Noctis didn’t give a shit about his fiancé who lived in a different country
>virgin makes headcanon
see above
>Headcanon
Literally 3/4 didn't there
pray tell then what was Tifa embarrassed the next morning in the Highwind. this is some walked her home gently tier denial.

It's anime you moron. They get super embarrassed and punch guys 50ft in the air if someone sees their panties. You seriously think Cloud and Tifa fricked on a rock in the middle of an open plain with a ship full of people hovering above them?

This doesn't count worth shit when her entire character is given to you AFTER she's dead. Plus you have to watch an anime and a film and read a shitty book, because the game doesn't absolutely frick all to set up their relationship or endear the player to her.
They're both awfully written characters, and the only positive from the whole mess is they're both fricking dead.

Read the novel, it was supposed to be in the Lunafreya DLC where we play a flashback of younger Luna grooming young shota prince Noctis and she gets his royal semen in a jar, frozen and preserved by Shiva who occassionally watches the jar and jerk offs at the though of it getting inside her instead of Luna and that's supposed to be a cutscene suggesting it before Luna barges into the room and we see an epic catfight between her and Shiva who eventually gets tamed by Luna and becomes Gentiana!
>They really didn’t
You might've missed because that scene can play out differently depending on different things you've done in the game.
They did everything they could to point out they had sex without explicitly saying or showing it. 7 was largely a response to how Nintendo used to heavily censor what developers could put in their games for their console, so they got a bit more "edgy" for their first Playstation FF.

The issue is that there are two possible scenes where she says "You heard us?" on the airship, but only one of them where after professing their feelings to each other Tifa tells Cloud "Words aren't the only thing that tell people what you're thinking" before the fade to black, then the following morning where they're lying together with her head on his shoulder.
This is why there's so much confusion and people remember that scene so very differently.

Cecil and Cloud did, Tidus and Noctis did not.
One's a dead cuckold and the other is a dead simp. Which is which is down to you.
Tidus quite literally DID have sex. He was made out of the dreams of Zanarkand. They made him as a famous Blitzball player that had sex and was popular with the ladies.
Unless you're implying all of Zanarkand were virgins.
The official narrative with WoL is "If you think your WoL did it with X character, then it's canon" which simultaneously makes him the biggest gigachad in the franchise who has fricked every single person he pleased and also the biggest virgin who no way gays everyone depending on what (You) find funnier..
Zack unironically was such a good character, people ignored that CC was without him a completely shit game.
No wonder people are so die hard about him.
He definitely wasn't deep, but I think it was that he was basically like a very classic JRPG protagonist who just wanted to be a hero in a super late 2000s Square melodramatic shitfest of a story that made him stick out so much.
>Did he become Herokage of SOLDIER like he dreamed of bros? Did he protect his honour?? i cry evrytiem
Kek, shit like that unironically gets me in the feels.
>Went from a stoic pillar of absolute chad with an almost unbelievable sense of devotion to helping Cloud out >To some Naruto-tier blindness on helping SOLDIER (Genesis being a terribly written enemy didnt help either)
>Cloud
Overrated as frick. There’s two types of protagonists I can’t stand: those who are obnoxiously emo and those who are too moronic to see when a girl is interested in them. Cloud is both.
>Cloud was emo?
He wasn't, that anon is mistaking the anthology/Advent Children version of Cloud with the actual FF7 version of Cloud. It's one of the few things 7Remake does right in NOT making Cloud a mopey emo kid, and actually made him more like his original 7 self.
anon, what do you think emo is? because he's not emo in 7R, I'm thinking there might be a misunderstanding at play here

>Having the emotional range of a plank and being an butthole to everyone around him for no reason
That's Cloud just being an butthole and emotionally stunted, which he was in OG and Remake.
Emo when talking about a person typically meant someone who was always sad and emotional about how sad they are, and did you know how mopey and sad they were? Because they're gonna show you, possibly monologue, how mopey and sad they are. Maybe dress in black and wear mascara.
I liked Cloud because he was basically like every IRL "Marine" that got kicked out at Boot trying to pretend they're a badass when they never even made it.
He's on a mainline FF now
You are stuck with him forever
Just like with Bartz, Firion, Lightning and Noctis
I can remember Lightning and Bartz. But I'm going to be honest I don't even remember the new protags name. I didn't even know what game the OPs pic came from tbh

You mean Clive from FFXVI?
Don't worry, if you keep yourself around here, it'll be seared in your memory, whether you like it or not
I know you're memeing anon, but I love that game
It's a shame it isn't on steam. My absolute best part is Rome, the baths, the blood rivers, and the hanging fat frick boss. And the lore implications of the firstborne, holy frick what a game
But yeah, as a fan of the Hellraiser's original trilogy, I must say that Clive Rosfield took Clive Barker's place in my brain
All based and correct. >just a dude traveling with his Chocobo >roped into a quest with a princess, a pirate (secretly a princess) and an old man (secretly a king) >old man goes out like an absolute badass and his granddaughter (a princess, coincidentally) takes up his arms >this guy and his three princess companions chop down a giant tree in the middle of the quite literal FF Multiverse >Gilgamesh >settles down with nameless childhood friend in his home village of Lux and lives happily ever after >probably kicked Gilgamesh's ass after he came home too
He's so incredibly based, Squenix never topped him.
I was going to post a video of the FF5 sequel anime of the character shooting a laser from their butt, but found that apparently the full damn anime is posted on youtube
Claire is the best FF protagonist and it is not even close

Nta but i think Lightning is really good as a character, she is just one of those characters who are extremely focused in character development. So they write her really as an butthole at the start to make her evolve.
It's the persona 3 syndrome. A lot of people dont like the idea of having a party that learns to be a party, a group of people who hate each other at the start.
They usually prefer everyone being super friends like P5.
Serious talk: Is Toriyama absolutely moronic?
The story and the concept of the first game is that there are no heroes. They all try on their own and fail. Lightning, Snow, Fang they are all supposedly nobodies. WHY THE FRICK IS LIGHTNING A GODDESS IN THE "SEQUEL" YOU moronic WEEB gay. It's not even a real fricking sequel it breaks canon. frick i hate this shit.
>now that I think about it maybe murdering peaceful villagers is bad...
Love this homie even if his game is too barebones for him to really have proper characterisation

he's my go-to fantasy to cum when I'm ploughing myself with a dildo, imagining that cute monkey motherfricker on my like a sewing needle and then whispering 'I'm gonna make you my princess' makes me bust a nut
>theres a reason it got 96
Because its a mainline nintendo product, it could be a literal plate of shit and they would still slurp it up and call it GOTY
I really dislike what ToTK did with zelda but that game has a solid idea of what it wants to be, 16 doesnt. Even with FF being my favbrite franchise i can see that.
None of the grand building stuff comes into play during dungeons or boss fights. Its separated despite it being the core new thing. Then you have the depths being huge but only full of amiibo armor.
Not my language. I just learned to use it properly. The only thing you're raping is the chance anyone would take your posts seriously if you write like a subhuman.
kain wasn't a cuck. he was a simp who couldn't let go of his oneitis, and it wasn't even abour rosa anyway, he was just jealous of cecil. he'd be simping for literally any other girl cecil was dating
No, he is too generic like tales of arise mc the only thing new or interesting about this homosexual is that he just casually drop the f bomb constantly but even dropping that and le kick on floor enemies jack garland still edgier and cooler
He is fun but looses basically all vocal range after the timeskip and just sounds like he has been eating gravel.
The Titan Lost Fight and the entire journey getting there improved him greatly to me,
Clive is cool but why couldn't we control over party members? Tales of Arise did it. Cid or Jill are with Clive for a large amount of the game so it could have been done
Clive's move set is already overwhelming by itself once you unlock more than one summon.
If you had to manage other party members as well the game would be a mess.
Doesnt even need to do this
You should be able to share skills with your party members and give commants to them. They would keep party combat and you would be able to use more ethan 2 skills per eikon.
Their combat design made a game really limited skill-wise and with severe spamming of them because they are cooldown based.
>Their combat design made a game really limited skill-wise and with severe spamming of them because they are cooldown based.
This is true, more than combos i feel like every encounter is more focused in "now you will spam all your skills right now"
>selfish, easily irritable, hates friendship >only cares about getting the job done >gets forcefully paired with a bunch of likeable idiots that he needs to babysit as their leader >progressively starts to care about them and be a better leader for their sake, all done very naturally throughout the game >learns to appreciate the people who cares about him, and that even he cannot do everything alone
No other protagonist in the series had a development as good as this.
anon, don't do the "oh look, another generic white MALE as the protagonist" thing that journalists and twitter users do. That's not what makes a character memorable, the context of the game is what does it.
What? It's ripped wholesale from Tactics, right down to him being disgraced nobility.

Okay, I know this thread is supposed to be about the best main FF protag, but can we talk about the decision to make Cidolfus Orlandeau in FFTactics a character you get automatically in the story rather than an optional character? He's so OP that he mogs every other person in your army, including any actual optional characters.
Why would they do that? Or at least make it so you don't start with all his abilities/items unless you do some optional content to get them? It makes things so trivial unless you deliberately decide to not use him.

I sort of wonder how different 12 would be if Square didn't meddle so much, and how much more similar to the Tactics aesthetics it might've been. Matsuno originally wasn't going to have the ships be so "spaceship-like/futuristic" but have them more like traditional airships, like at the end of FF Tactics.

Ardbert was a chad and more edgier and tragic than clive its a shame he was just a saturday patch villian and one narrstive element and wol mcguffin in ShadowBlack folk
They have a passing visual similarity, but that's it. Clive isn't an irresponsible and habitual troublemaker to the point people get deja vu across dimensions and time periods, and most certainly wouldn't steal someone's pet phoenix just to save some yummy juicy grapes.
God, they're so fricking gay. Even their interactions boil down to "HAHA WE'RE SUCH BEST FRIENDS WE'RE THE FRIENDEST OF FRIENDS OF ALL FRIENDTIME HAHA"
15 makes me want to vomit my fricking guts out
Holy shit this. Everyone fricking overstates the chemistry between those 4 homies. It's like each of them is only given scripts full of compliments and dicksucking for each other. Even when Gladiolus got angry at Noct they quickly made up again less than 10 seconds.
What are you talking about? They hoist each other up and sing their praises but they also take the piss out of each other constantly. Igniz and Gladio are constantly calling Noctis out on what a lazy manbaby he tends to be, Prompto is the butt of nearly everyone's jokes, they constantly crackwise about Gladio being a fricking Gorilla, and Noctis is always telling Igniz to get off his ass or mocks him for being such a stickler about shit he doesnt even care about.
Holy shit this. Everyone fricking overstates the chemistry between those 4 homies. It's like each of them is only given scripts full of compliments and dicksucking for each other. Even when Gladiolus got angry at Noct they quickly made up again less than 10 seconds.
15's cast is written like the writer has no concept of what friendships are.
Before playing 15, I'd give Persona 4 and Persona 5 shit for their casts of vapid dickriders with next to no chemistry with eachother who do precious little but fluff the ego of the self-insert character.
Then I played FF15, and realised it's so much worse watching a small group of profoundly characterless robots jerk eachother off over what great friends they are between sessions of teamworking the shaft of the abject black hole of charisma that is the protagonist.
The original Ann Ryuji, Joker, and Morgana had chemistry together in P5. When Makoto joins, and the spotlight shines on her, the group turns to shit, and Haru joins so late that she barely does anything.
I'd disagree on Morgana. Atlus's need to shoehorn a mascot character who can conveniently explain everything to get the party started is incredibly lazy. Take out Morgana, at Yusuke, make that the party for the entire game. It's solid.
Everyone after him is an absolute waste of screentime only tangentially related to anything, which is made worse by the main plot being water-thin as it is.

There's a side quest about it where they reveal the brands have poison in them and half the people they did the operation on to remove it died.

a ffxv combat guy was on ff16s player combat design too
terada and aramaki and Kanbayashi all worked on ff16 too
its shit because of ff14 hacks
the lumipro chads could only do so much to salvage 16 under a hack director and luckily nobody from based xv was involved in the atrocious story or sidequests of 16
There should be an anti-video-game-economy. In other words, people are allowed to spend money to de-buy games. I would spend tes of thousands of dollars on de-buying shit like this so cancerous companies like Shitnix make less profit.
I fricking got baited by the victory fanfare in demo.
Why the frick they stopped playing it throughout the game?
Unless there's some kind of bug that stopped playing the fanfare.
So, what do we think? Is XVII going turn based or hybrid? I think going TB could give more time to focus on story and graphics (since having the best looks, best music, best presentation was always their priority)
But going hybrid might give us something unique and fresh like VII:RE.
Well maybe XVI is their wake up call?
Not saying that TB is a superior system, just that maybe they need to go back and have a look at what made FF a good RPG outside of it's combat system. Exploration, mini games, levity, hidden dungeons, hidden boss fights, party members with their own story side quests to flesh them out. Weapon-headgear-chest armor-footwear-accessory #1-accessory #2 design, elemental weaknesses with 3 tier magic system for elements along a fourth super strong version obtainable near end game.
That kind of stuff.
Again, not hating on XVI. It is it's own game, separate like all the others.
They're never going back to turn based or ATB, it's always going to be an action RPG. The question is how much focus they're going to put on the RPG side of things.
They're never going back to turn based or ATB, it's always going to be an action RPG. The question is how much focus they're going to put on the RPG side of things.
I think 7R's system is the best going forward, both 16 and 7R could look at each other and easily fix issues on both sides. Cloud's core moveset doesn't change at all, can't use any of your abilities mid air and it lacks a jump button. Comboing just feels like shit in 7R. Meanwhile in 16, you can't command people, you can't influence cooldowns, you have way less RPG stuff even if 7R's sphere are bland as hell, and the stagger system is strictly worse than 13 and 7R.
Hands down. Jill is the best heroine too. The cast is a bit thin though. I like everyone in the "main party" a lot, but there are few of them compared to other titles in the series.
Do the sidequests, it's so blatant that he lives it's insane. >Jill compares him coming for her to the sun always rising >Harpocrates gifts him a quill so he can write his story
All the characters in this game are so bland and boring that somehow Clive's goofy as dumb uncle ended up my favorite character. He's just so much fun whenever he's around and he's somehow the only character that actually seems happy and not a dour piece of shit. Well, Gav is fun too.

When we think there's no hope for Final Fantasy left, we keep looking for our Pure Heroine and Muse until we find her. Maybe Final Fantasy is past saving, but it's our beloved series. And we will protect it and make it great again with power of Claire or die trying.
Actually I think Hugo would've been more menacing had he been gay
Like, twist his hateboner for Cid (and by extension, Clive) in a way that would've scared the bejesus out of both of them
He's the most attractive and has the best voice, which is enough to carry him through having no personality. The writing doesn't save him, his VA does. Cid, meanwhile, is easily the best Cid.
Given how much Ben carries the scenes with his acting, I don't mind. I don't like or dislike Clive. But he's carried by having Ben as his actor. Ditto for Jill, whose VA does a great job voicing a love interest who mostly stands in the background of most scenes saying and doing nothing. Torgal'a dog VA is the real champ.
The characters are kinda lucky of having them as VAs to be honest.
I can see a scenario where without them they fall really flat. They already dont get much to work with
Every dialogue with jill is just her talking about her sad past or something related to clive. She has no agency or personality beyond that.
>Every dialogue with jill is just her talking about her sad past or something related to clive. She has no agency or personality beyond that.
Every character needs to have multiple different interactions
The subtle differences of what makes a Mc like Cloud act around Aerith and Tifa are really important.
>Every dialogue with jill is just her talking about her sad past or something related to clive. She has no agency or personality beyond that.
I was going to deny that but it's really true.
Yet another missed opportunity. That's my biggest beef with FF16. I like it, though really >could've had the pixel models walk around the map >could've poked some fun at the Bearer/Master dynamic Clive and Jill had earlier on >Actually, they could've had fun with Clive and Jill in general
Plus others I missed. Still solid game overall though
I feel like this with every character to be honest.
They dont get anything beyond of what the plot asks them. They really spent all that dev time doing those setpieces.
I think they did right by Cid, and the dynamic between Clive and Joshua was okay too which is why it's so funny that they bungled the handling of Jill and Clive's relationship
all they cared about was making normalgays say "wow, this is just like game of thrones"
Another missed opportunity. If they were gonna do something like GoT, they should've leaned into it more. >all these nobles scheming and planning so they could get ahead >the very thing they need is magic, and lots of it >the guy giving them what they need is one and the same: Ultima >when all these noble buttholes kill each other off/Clive kills them and destroys their mothercrystals, he appears >goodjobclive.jpg
And other shit SE could've done. But hey, there's always next time.
I'd chalk it up to SE trying something they don't have much experience with in the first place (writing a complex web of political intrigue that also happens to be a dark western fantasy story). They could've brought Martin himself in as a consultant. FromSoft did it, so why not Square Enix right? Hopefully, they learn their lesson after this (though I'm just being optimistic)

Theyll just abandon the idea because it didnt make a slamdunk success from the outset and go back to generic modern scifi swords and laserguns settings which the series has consisted of longer now than classical/medieval fantasy.
Basically instead of iterating on the really good stuff of FF16 (the setting and lore) and iterating on issues like the character handling and pacing they'll throw it in the bin for more Nomura and Tabata slop for the next 20 years
XVI was the one chance we had at something serious for people who arent mentally ill and it just kinda flailed
(Especially since the most common loudest complaints are the real problems the game has, but the typical fanboy whining over dumb pointless elemental resistance and muh party mechanics)

If true, that'd be both weird and kinda sad at the same time. I can only hope that FF16 does marginally better than 15 and encourages them to have another swing at classic FF
Nah, i think the game does the got plot well
The problem is how it keeps jumping to other 5 different plotlines constantly
Yoship said this game was a rollercoster, but at the end of the day i feel like it is not in a good way.
Yeah, you can't have a GoT-style story while following one to three people, tops, at any one time. These types of shows live or die on actual intrigue and scale. Something about the execution was just so ho-hum. We didn't even get to explore Oriflamme, for example. It just felt dull, muzzled. I don't get it.
call me a party gay but i feel the game would be so much more involved if we had clive, joshua, jill, dion and maybe benedikta walking around with us dealing with this shit
>Benedikta
They could've pulled a Ceres on her, really. I was hoping that Cid brought her to the Hideaway after the fight with Garuda, but I was expecting too much. As for Dion and Josh, they would've been nice to have though it might just make the game longer than it should be
>have Benedikta survive the Ifrit battle >reveal Ultima being in bed with Barney earlier >have benedikta journeying with us wanting to get her King Barnabus back >have a sad scene where she kills Barney
could've been kino. why the frick did she die so early.
>why the frick did she die so early.
Because otherwise it wouldn't SHOCKING and GRITTY
>Benedikta
They could've pulled a Ceres on her, really. I was hoping that Cid brought her to the Hideaway after the fight with Garuda, but I was expecting too much. As for Dion and Josh, they would've been nice to have though it might just make the game longer than it should be
>As for Dion and Josh, they would've been nice to have though it might just make the game longer than it should be
Yes, but they could have cut the million other moments that didn't need to be in the game
>but they could have cut the million other moments that didn't need to be in the game
True. I imagine that they would've had to rewrite the second half to accommodate them, but it would've been good if they had done that
Mid and Jote are so much better than Jill... don't even care if Clive survived or not cause who cares about Jill, that b***h was so fricking useless and barely ever primed to help you.

>Jote
I can already see the fanfic in my head >Joshua and Jote are on their travels >Joshua, being the sickly boy that he is, has to rest >And Jote, being his faithful retainer, attends to his every need. >Making his medicine... >... giving him a wiping bath... >... chewing his food for him... >... feeding him mouth-to-mouth...
Easily the best performance of any of the actors playing a protagonist at the very least. I love the fact that his original 15 year old design is meant to reflect the traditional Final Fantasy hero but he loses absolutely everything and the entire story is about him rising back up from nothing to stardom.
Is Ultima from 16 one of the weakest villains from this series? I like the fight and what simbolizes. But as a villain i felt like they were painfully flat, maybe they could've done more with it? idk.
Every time i look at the other villains from FF i think they do a great job (necron isnt actually a main villain because it just appears at the end, not in the entire game like ultima). But ultima was...
I will say that 9's is also boring
And i like jenova, its aspect of being a deceitful parasite is interesting. Even more when it manifests itself through sephiroth
Sephiroth is barely in 7, he is the only one in franchise history with more mommy issues than
Barnabas. He goes schizo, falls down into the lifestream, then disappears till the end of the game.
I would say it is more about execution than actual role. Sephiroth from the start was always supposed to be an alien and inhuman threat. The devil whispering in Cloud's ear. He was never supposed to be a complex or nuanced character in OG 7, he was JAWS. A force of nature.
And they did it masterfully.
His role is completely different from anything this series has to be kinda honest.
and IMO is diminished when it was Jenova posing as Sephiroth the entire time. We saw ONE feat of his which was owning a dragon Zack/Cloud was struggling against.
But even the fact we dont know what is sephiroth or what is jenova, if sephiroth is in control or not, is a great theme and fits with the character a lot.
I think it was better than having another tragic backstory woe is me type villain. But they could have done the exposition dump sometime before the literal final 2 hours of the game and built him up more as a powerful foe with that context in mind
Also possibly keep his Ascian speak throughout the entire game. A lot of the mystique and otherwordliness was lost when he started talking English
Yeah i feel like the problem isnt Ultima itself, but how badly developed it is. They had plenty of time to set it up beyond making it a Sephiroth 2. But never did.
nta but exactly! He just appears out of nowhere. At the very least we already knew about Sephiroth somewhat early on in FF7 but anything substantial about this guy comes out of left field or is left too vague for us to actually know it's him
I mean Joshua literally says Ultima's name when he tries to possess you, and this is like 40% of the way in the story. We already knew shit was going to get weird.
Yeah, though we were made known of Sephiroth earlier than that.
At the very least, they could've already given subtle hints as to Ultima's true nature as early as the start. Like, for example, with all the ruins scattered around and the Crystaline Orthdoxy, I could already see how SE could've squeezed in shit like 'They used to worship one god, and one god only...' and such
I agree with
[...]
Ultima is that villain that is always there but when they present it, it still becomes a mess because of how poorly done its plotline is. It fits perfectly with the game's themes, but doesnt mean that makes it objectively a good or interesting villain.
They could've made more parallels with its old world and race being extinct. The fallen at the end of the day are just a generic background theme.
in that his appearance fits with the theme, but making it "realistic" by having him enter the story suddenly doesn't make for good fiction in my book
Well most people critical of the game agree seem to agree with you that he is a weak point. I think all the stuff with Ultima was just about the only time after Cids death that I was intrigued and wanted to see what happened next. I may be biased though since Im a 14 player and so I was happy having a genuinely evil/unsettling villain rather than another sympathetic one which most people naturally prefer I think

This. I think it was a great thematic villain, doesnt changes the fact i felt like they did a bad job setting it up.
Even more when even FF14 does a better job in setting up generic cosmic threat.
I thought his design, VA, "aura" or "vibe" was spot-on, definitely felt like the Final Fantasy villain of the future we're living in. Battle was great, too. He just quite literally appears out of nowhere behind Clive. Why not do a better job of setting up these beings as the archon figures they're supposed to be?

Yeah. It's crazy because we are until the last hour of the game before the fight having to explain what the villain wants to do.
I feel like 85% of Ultima's scenes are just it whispering shit in clive's ear, shit that doesnt add anything to the plot.
What if Clive got glimpses of its old civilization? to set it up their wish to return, wouldnt it be better?

Like a version of 9 where Zidane sees the old world.

Why don't these devs ever get a little bombastic with villain motivations? Show us a flash cut montage of the suffering they're inflicting on the world, show us what they went through on their own planet, give us those kinds of sequences that get 1 million+ views on YouTube. I don't really understand. They want to set up these world-eating archons and demiurges but it's like the devs themselves don't have the imagination to really convey the horror of such a being.

Yeah...Ultima feels like a wasted opportunity with me. I think the last section is good, but i dont get surprised by the fact journos got disappointed by it. Sure you could say ultima is set up, but is it done well? that's the question.

Not done well at all. The weird language he was speaking at first was fantastic, felt like something almost out of Event Horizon, something evil and divine. The English VA was excellent at least. Oh well

I think presentation-wise it is really good. But the game not knowing in what they should focus clearly damaged its story.
It's like when they say that Ultima being tied to bearers mean there isnt a problem with abandoning that grounded plotline. Sure it fits on its themes, but does it feel good story-wise? For me just felt like they had tons of different themes but put all of them aside because the big alien appeared.

They needed to set up high fantasy heat death quick and fast. Drop the Blight, we're sick of generics plagues, viruses, diseases, etc. I get that the Blight is an effect of the mothercrystals allegedly dying, but still. Don't frame them as separate phenomena. Set up Sanbreque as the immediate enemy, give us a ton of Sanbreque court politics, normies love that shit, don't get muddled by the Ironbloods, Dhalmekia, etc. Keep it focused or you'll lose the normies. You gotta ease them into the proper nouns. Eventually, when you're ready, introduce Ultima and his cohorts and their "pumping of the world's lifeblood" which was a really effective reveal for me. We are basically doing the same thing to this planet that Ultima's race is. Not to get preachy, but it IS groundedness they're going for, and it's not like the jrpg trope of the demiurge expy/planetary parasite just popped into the minds of these people completely unbidden

Just making simple parallels with Ultima's old world would've been better and make it more interesting. Turning those alien entities more nuanced, complex and even relatable doesnt man turning them good guys.
It would be kinda interesting because while they act like the most cold and lifeless bastards ever they would have a relatable past.

I can understand them being disappointed, then yet Ragnarok still got praise for its rushed last act that they HAD to nail. Its fricking Ragnarok.

I got tired of GoW after the first one. But i feel like GoW at least knew they shouldnt have 30 different plotlines going on. So most of the game you follow kratos and the boy. That's it.
For most of Ragnarok they are just trying to stop it, simple.
Pacing issues of 16 also damage the presentation of the story a lot.

FF16 has the most insane setpieces that a AAA game can have glued by the most 2000s mmo level design and pacing ever. It's funny.

Ragnarok does have a bunch of plotlines at the same time, which is why people say its bloated then they rush the end of it. >we need surtr to enter asgard >oh wait we don't cause dwarf shit >oh wait he is going crazy, someone stop him because the asgards are actually on our side >OOPSIE we blew up your land Sif I hope you don't mind

Yeah but you see things through the eyes of 2 characters. They never tried to set up 6 different kingdoms in Ragnarok.

Because mainstream writing essayists say that exposition is bad so you cant have a sequence where the villain just tells you stuff and shows it in an extended way
Well most people critical of the game agree seem to agree with you that he is a weak point. I think all the stuff with Ultima was just about the only time after Cids death that I was intrigued and wanted to see what happened next. I may be biased though since Im a 14 player and so I was happy having a genuinely evil/unsettling villain rather than another sympathetic one which most people naturally prefer I think
The game took a nosedive once it became more about Ultima imo. Kinda funny actually, GoT had the same problem once it moved over to dealing with the night king.
Why was his introduction so awkward? He just appears out of nowhere. I think his design and battle are great, but the build-up was flat. What even was Typhon?
And on top of that, Typhon looks stupid. When he crawled out of that portal I think that's when I realized this game wasn't going to be as great as I thought it was. I could almost feel the normies tuning out.
Typhon section was just cool for being cool (but framed as Ultima testing your strength as a vessel) which I think worked, the problem is that from that point on the entire story is just disconnected moments of cool for coolness sake entirely. Until the final confrontation with Ultima where the game tries to create smth about parralels and differences between humans and Ultima when that is not something that was dealt with prior to the big endgame exposition time 2 hours from the end.
I agree that everything else about Ultima as far as design and feel was done well, the story just isnt there to support ur
Yoshida said if the reception is good, then they will do some DLC. The game does have DLC setup since they could easily shove some stuff into that 5 year timeskip.
This shit is already done bro
You dont start building a dlc after a game releases nowadays. You need to have it planned for multiple years in advance. It's probably already being finished.
They really need some sharper localization teams for this kind of "high concept" Jap dialogue, and I think this team was great to begin with, sadly. Why a sudden dichotomy between "will" and "consciousness", it's weird and feels muddled.
>Joshua never once holds up Clive on mauling him >Even goes as far as to apologize himself instead after their reunion
I was worried about how they would handle him but I wasn't disappointed, what a good boy.
>Only non virgin FF protagonist
He will be remembered either as the very best or the absolute worst by Ganker
Cecil, Cloud, Tidus, Noctis all had sex
>Headcanon
Literally 3/4 didn't there
>virgin who only watches movies thinks people can make out like Tidus and Yuna did without ending up fricking
>virgin makes headcanon
see above
See
If you ever made out with a female beyond childhood you would know what happens.
I've fricked over 100 women and have a big booba partner. The fact you bring this stuff up as character assassination screams unfrickable. Only those who haven't had sex are obsessed with it. Literally, have sex
I've fricked 101 women and my gf also has big booba. PS your big booba partner was my 101st.
I accept your concession
I bummed your mum's and they say your both homosexuals
I appreciate you two, just wanted to let you know that. Thanks for the laugh
>Non sex-haver comments
Nobody asked, bro
To be fair, this is a Japanese game and Yuna is supposed to be a marketable pure waifu. The original game doesn't even have her tell Tidus that she loves him in Japanese.
>Cecil
has a kid
>Cloud
shagged Tifa under the Highwind
>Tidus
madly in love
>Noctis
lifelong couple with his fiancee
>3/4 headcanons
Shocking.
How?
Hes talking about the other 3 you morons
No shit. He hasn't explained why they are headcanon
How's is Cecil having a kid headcanon?
>Cloud
>shagged Tifa under the Highwind
Why do morons keep trying to force this? And I say this as a moron who "ships" them. They didn't frick out in the open while everyone jerked off watching.
>hurr durr but original plan was them walking out of a shed
not in the game
pray tell then what was Tifa embarrassed the next morning in the Highwind. this is some walked her home gently tier denial.
It's anime you moron. They get super embarrassed and punch guys 50ft in the air if someone sees their panties. You seriously think Cloud and Tifa fricked on a rock in the middle of an open plain with a ship full of people hovering above them?
they thought everyone left and went home moron, the Highwind is supposed to be empty. Jesus Christ did you people even play the game?
Did you? What part of their personalities make you think Cloud and Tifa are degenerate pornstars that would do that shit?
People frick outside or finger their girl after making out if theyre outside and feel certain enough nobody is there. Thats not degenerate.
>fricking in the wild when no one watching is porn
are you a virgin?
well, he is on Ganker
People like this are why 16 is full of humping, people aren't convinced unless there are testicles slapping the camera lens.
cecil and noctis are the only ff protags who impregnated their wives
noctis
Cyan had a kid and a wife
He died a virgin and his "wife" died before they even had so much as a conversation in-game
Noctisgays are fricking delusional as usual
they've been friends since they were kids, no? it's not unreasonable to think they're already accustomed to each other considering that they're due for a marriage
>they've been friends since they were kids, no?
This doesn't count worth shit when her entire character is given to you AFTER she's dead. Plus you have to watch an anime and a film and read a shitty book, because the game doesn't absolutely frick all to set up their relationship or endear the player to her.
They're both awfully written characters, and the only positive from the whole mess is they're both fricking dead.
I don't disagree but the point is that they've definitely had sex before considering the length of their relationship and apparent intimacy
>but the point is that they've definitely had sex before considering the length of their relationship and apparent intimacy
Where would they find the time? They make a whole thing of the fact that they've been separated for fricking ages. Unless you're going to say "these two children were FRICKING on their playdates" in which case, check yourself you degenerate
well there we go, that's a point that I did not consider (or rather have forgotten). apologies for not fact checking but it is FFXV so I wasn't really compelled to do so instead of just asking here.
They didnt, Noct died a autistic virgin
nah he impregnated luna
cope
its confirmed its they're kids
>nah he impregnated luna
>cope
When? When he was dead? Or when she was dead?
Fricking deranged abbo
Read the novel, it was supposed to be in the Lunafreya DLC where we play a flashback of younger Luna grooming young shota prince Noctis and she gets his royal semen in a jar, frozen and preserved by Shiva who occassionally watches the jar and jerk offs at the though of it getting inside her instead of Luna and that's supposed to be a cutscene suggesting it before Luna barges into the room and we see an epic catfight between her and Shiva who eventually gets tamed by Luna and becomes Gentiana!
These in the pic aren't their kids but their younger versions like the in-game flashbacks...
Yeah, no. Cloud and Tidus are too moronic to know what sex is, and Noctis didn’t give a shit about his fiancé who lived in a different country
Cloud and Tifa had sex under the highwind before the final battle, if you have a IQ above 6 you can understand it
They really didn’t
>They really didn’t
You might've missed because that scene can play out differently depending on different things you've done in the game.
They did everything they could to point out they had sex without explicitly saying or showing it. 7 was largely a response to how Nintendo used to heavily censor what developers could put in their games for their console, so they got a bit more "edgy" for their first Playstation FF.
FF6 has stronger implications that Celes was beaten and raped than your fantasy about Cloud and Tifa you dumb console fanboy
where'd the console fanboy thing come from? I'm simply stating what happened in the game, and the context of why Square would bother. not too deep.
if they had sex then they would've showed it, like they did in Xenogears
The issue is that there are two possible scenes where she says "You heard us?" on the airship, but only one of them where after professing their feelings to each other Tifa tells Cloud "Words aren't the only thing that tell people what you're thinking" before the fade to black, then the following morning where they're lying together with her head on his shoulder.
This is why there's so much confusion and people remember that scene so very differently.
>homies still pushing that Cloud and Tifa fricked on the grass, right outside the airship where they friends were
Shiphomosexuals are so moronic its not even funny.
the ship was empty sweatie
anon, I'm not a shiphomosexual. it was literally in the game.
see
aerithgays are fragile anon, don't hurt them like this
based and true, but man do they make good porn of her
man, I don't even care about what fictional character ends up with what fictional character. I just think it's interesting that because this part of the game had different scenes that were so incredibly similar, people still decades later still argue about this.
Tidus is a star athlete, if you think he's a virgin you're a moron.
Tidus quite literally DID have sex. He was made out of the dreams of Zanarkand. They made him as a famous Blitzball player that had sex and was popular with the ladies.
Unless you're implying all of Zanarkand were virgins.
FFX begins with Tidus rebuffing three thirsty female fans dude.
those are all virgins, unless you count after life sex, in that case noctis isn't
Cecil and Cloud did, Tidus and Noctis did not.
One's a dead cuckold and the other is a dead simp. Which is which is down to you.
Tidus fricked Yuna in that lake in the sparkly forest
Warrior of Light too if you count your EB character.
>Noctis all had sex
Noctis fricks men which is why he looks like a homosexual
clive is gay and cid even says men frick him
Noctis has such a godawful design. That hair looks so incredibly dumb.
What!?
The official narrative with WoL is "If you think your WoL did it with X character, then it's canon" which simultaneously makes him the biggest gigachad in the franchise who has fricked every single person he pleased and also the biggest virgin who no way gays everyone depending on what (You) find funnier..
My WoL definitely fricked Sadu off-screen.
Butz fricked since he had a defendant in the future
As a character? No, he's too dull. He's the sexiest one though.
Who IS the best FF protag?
Zidane
>is horny as frick without being obnoxious
>genuinely supportive of most of his friends
>very worldly and knowledgeable without being an egghead
He was pretty based. I like that he and Kuja eventually get along in the Dissidia games, too.
I’ll fight anyone, come at me
Zack unironically was such a good character, people ignored that CC was without him a completely shit game.
No wonder people are so die hard about him.
His character wasn't exactly that deep but he was endearing for sure. Reminded me of a badass version of Tidus.
He definitely wasn't deep, but I think it was that he was basically like a very classic JRPG protagonist who just wanted to be a hero in a super late 2000s Square melodramatic shitfest of a story that made him stick out so much.
Kek true. And he had the skills to back it up which makes him a legit badass.
I accept yours fellow haver of legitimate sex.
Did he become Herokage of SOLDIER like he dreamed of bros? Did he protect his honour?? i cry evrytiem
>Did he become Herokage of SOLDIER like he dreamed of bros? Did he protect his honour?? i cry evrytiem
Kek, shit like that unironically gets me in the feels.
man it's always such a breath of fresh air when the jrpg protagonist is a charismatic chad and not an awkward whiny homosexual
Hope you get bulletproof armor
>Went from a stoic pillar of absolute chad with an almost unbelievable sense of devotion to helping Cloud out
>To some Naruto-tier blindness on helping SOLDIER (Genesis being a terribly written enemy didnt help either)
Shit tier fan fiction.
Either Cloud or Squall, possibly Tidus. I'd say Noctis was one who had potential but like the rest of 15 that was squandered as well.
>Cloud
Overrated as frick. There’s two types of protagonists I can’t stand: those who are obnoxiously emo and those who are too moronic to see when a girl is interested in them. Cloud is both.
Cloud was emo?
>Cloud was emo?
He wasn't, that anon is mistaking the anthology/Advent Children version of Cloud with the actual FF7 version of Cloud. It's one of the few things 7Remake does right in NOT making Cloud a mopey emo kid, and actually made him more like his original 7 self.
He’s pretty damn emo in FF7R
anon, what do you think emo is? because he's not emo in 7R, I'm thinking there might be a misunderstanding at play here
Having the emotional range of a plank and being an butthole to everyone around him for no reason
Maybe dress in black and wear mascara.
not emo, just brainwashed
I liked Cloud because he was basically like every IRL "Marine" that got kicked out at Boot trying to pretend they're a badass when they never even made it.
You dont know what emo is, moron
We all know it’s true
Seconding this.
The only correct answer.
In terms of pure power? Cloud
I can remember Lightning and Bartz. But I'm going to be honest I don't even remember the new protags name. I didn't even know what game the OPs pic came from tbh
>But I'm going to be honest I don't even remember the new protags name. I didn't even know what game the OPs pic came from tbh
You mean Clive from FFXVI?
Don't worry, if you keep yourself around here, it'll be seared in your memory, whether you like it or not
Clive Barker's Jehrico?
Clive is the most generic name possible, could have named him Bill and it'd be more rememberable
>Clive Rosfield
Who? No seriously who is this, I don't remember him being in Barker's Jehrico. Was it part of the lore implications/readable context?
>In terms of pure power? Cloud
Isn't the little homosexual from 9 a genetically engineered dragon ball planet busting supersaiyan piece of shit?
yeah Cloud takes it no diff
Yes but hus homosexual big bro was stronger shitting ultimas and trance system sucks
Yes. FF13 gays will tell you Lightning is the most powerful, which would be true if but it happens in spin off shit and not the main game.
He is but only when he gets really emotional.
Nah he still gets in the floor if you shit an ultima to him
Bartz. Most of you homosexuals don't even know.
You mean Butz
Not anymore.
Shame though, I liked Battsu more.
Localizers were cowards. He will forever be Butz in my heart.
All based and correct.
>just a dude traveling with his Chocobo
>roped into a quest with a princess, a pirate (secretly a princess) and an old man (secretly a king)
>old man goes out like an absolute badass and his granddaughter (a princess, coincidentally) takes up his arms
>this guy and his three princess companions chop down a giant tree in the middle of the quite literal FF Multiverse
>Gilgamesh
>settles down with nameless childhood friend in his home village of Lux and lives happily ever after
>probably kicked Gilgamesh's ass after he came home too
He's so incredibly based, Squenix never topped him.
My boy Butz
I was going to post a video of the FF5 sequel anime of the character shooting a laser from their butt, but found that apparently the full damn anime is posted on youtube
Motherfricker picked at the end one random childhood girl of his village KINO
Bartz, the only FF MC with a harem party
Clive, Zidane or Tidus
All homosexuals moralgays , tidus its insuferable but its more credible than discount goku and tales of arise mc
Marche
it's still Jack but Clive is up there.
generic as generic gets
>tattoo
no
not even top 8
>Gay ass Milton nonsense about rejecting muh destiny.
At least Noctis is a Christ allegory.
Zidane > Terra/Celes > Cloud > Squall > Cecil > Noctis > Tidus > Bartz > Vaan > Clive > Firion
>No mention of Lightning
>Even Noctis gets some pity points
Was she too b***hy for you, Ganker?
the dyke hair and manly jaw doesn't help that much
>dyke hair and man jaw
What character are you looking at?
Message to all Claire deniers.
L'Éclair - Queen of our Hearts and Purest Muse. Her time to save Final Fantasy has come.
Serah - Smartest Girl with 300 IQ and the sexiest one. Her time to solve Final Fantasy paradox has come.
Vanille - Best Girl and Queen of Cute Turboautism. Her time to find Final Fantasy's Focus has come.
Fang - Pure Wife, the most gigasexy and ferocious Warrior. Her time to make the impossible possible - to make Final Fantasy great again - has come.
Lumina - Damn Brat! Her time to correct Final Fantasy has come.
Yeul(s) - Farseer(s) and best girl(s). Their time to see into the future to find best possible world for Final Fantasy has come.
After censorship slop and now this it's now more and more clear that Her time to save Final Fantasy has come. Believe in inevitable as Fate Remaster and Remake, brothers.
The last bastions of sexiness, feminity, beauty AND fertility . The last paragons of Pure, unfiltered and uncensored Beauty in this dying world - Claire and XIII girls.
Their story begins when Myth ends...
Lightning is hot, dyke hair is the shaved side SJW one
She's my wife, but they doesn't make her the best FF character. It doesn't make her any less attractive.
this b***h had 3 games, and i still forget she exists
Lightning is weird because she's apparently supposed to be a female version of Cloud but Cloud's personality is very different from hers.
She may have started that way but when Toriyama picked up the pen it was all down hill...
Lightning is a goddess
turbo based
Cool fighting style but her game has like 10-15 hours of tutorials and awful pacing
>edgy fem cloud
>nomura's waifu
>her game was shit and it lasted and entire console generation
>0 charisma
>she and her whole party are even more forgettable than FFXV's generic boy band
>it's imposible to briefly summarize the plot of her game in 10 words or less
Nta but i think Lightning is really good as a character, she is just one of those characters who are extremely focused in character development. So they write her really as an butthole at the start to make her evolve.
It's the persona 3 syndrome. A lot of people dont like the idea of having a party that learns to be a party, a group of people who hate each other at the start.
They usually prefer everyone being super friends like P5.
>nomura's waifu
frick off secondary moron
>>No mention of Lightning
Serious talk: Is Toriyama absolutely moronic?
The story and the concept of the first game is that there are no heroes. They all try on their own and fail. Lightning, Snow, Fang they are all supposedly nobodies. WHY THE FRICK IS LIGHTNING A GODDESS IN THE "SEQUEL" YOU moronic WEEB gay. It's not even a real fricking sequel it breaks canon. frick i hate this shit.
She always was
Worse version of Squall masquerading as an even worse version of Cloud
No he's worse than lightning and has no personality
This motherfricker was last year, and Clive feels completely souless compared to it.
It’s pretty crazy how Jack is genuinely one of the smartest FF protagonists
Not even close
>now that I think about it maybe murdering peaceful villagers is bad...
Love this homie even if his game is too barebones for him to really have proper characterisation
/ffg/ shitting up the thread
as usual
Claire is the best FF protagonist and it is not even close
Toriyama, you've got to let her go
We'll never have the technology to make her a real person for you
>We'll never have the technology to make her a real person for you
Yes we will. I believe, anon, I believe.
>He doesn't own a going into games machine
Not even close. Wouldn't rank him above any PS1 era protagonist.
god I love Zidane, he's such a chad, he's cute as frick, he's up-beat, he genuinely loves the people around him, and he actually behaves like a boy instead of a mopey b***h
he's my go-to fantasy to cum when I'm ploughing myself with a dildo, imagining that cute monkey motherfricker on my like a sewing needle and then whispering 'I'm gonna make you my princess' makes me bust a nut
wtf did i just read
Noctis died a virgin and so will you Barry.
No, Squall exists.
I want to lick his hairless armpits
Why the frick he was naked in that scene besides fujo pandering
bara pandering
Disgusting.
If the shills don’t like something, that means it’s good
You're right. He likes the combat and the story and they are both bad.
He doesn't like the combat. He said it's too reliant on using abilities on cooldown.
How can one be a shill against something?
I lost all trust I had in this guy after he praised Breath of the Wild 2.0.
I'm sorry to say, but TOTK is way better than FFXVI once you finish it. There's a reason it got to 96 while FFXVI only reached an 88.
>theres a reason it got 96
Because its a mainline nintendo product, it could be a literal plate of shit and they would still slurp it up and call it GOTY
because of articles like this
I really dislike what ToTK did with zelda but that game has a solid idea of what it wants to be, 16 doesnt. Even with FF being my favbrite franchise i can see that.
None of the grand building stuff comes into play during dungeons or boss fights. Its separated despite it being the core new thing. Then you have the depths being huge but only full of amiibo armor.
>I have to say I really liked Final Fantasy 8, 10 and 7 remake
Opinion discarded.
She is going to be dlc, right?
>She
Of course the world still has blight and yoshitpiss sayed it has sequel potential
>sayed
have a nice day, moron
Nah im gonna still rape your language and grammar
Not my language. I just learned to use it properly. The only thing you're raping is the chance anyone would take your posts seriously if you write like a subhuman.
>still has blight
It doesn't.
>goes from whiny teen to sacrificing his life to save his people
Protagonists are always better when they don't start well.
>*blocks your path*
Luna, Ravus, and Noct dying were all unnecessary and avoidable. Good on Iggy for stepping up and correcting things.
>tfw you’re the only FF protagonist who is canonically a cuckold
Well he looks like the type of gay you would see at hot topic 15 years ago so it checks out.
kain?
kain wasn't a cuck. he was a simp who couldn't let go of his oneitis, and it wasn't even abour rosa anyway, he was just jealous of cecil. he'd be simping for literally any other girl cecil was dating
sound like a cuck to me
>Well he looks like the type of gay you would see at hot topic 15 years ago so it checks out.
Not by a long shot
nope
No, he is too generic like tales of arise mc the only thing new or interesting about this homosexual is that he just casually drop the f bomb constantly but even dropping that and le kick on floor enemies jack garland still edgier and cooler
>Cloud
>Had sex
Lmao, he didn't. This cope needs to stop.
aerithgays can't comprehend reality.
Tidus
ayo hol up
Too generic he was cooler with dork knight armor
He is fun but looses basically all vocal range after the timeskip and just sounds like he has been eating gravel.
The Titan Lost Fight and the entire journey getting there improved him greatly to me,
>slam blocks everyone's paths
Clive is cool but why couldn't we control over party members? Tales of Arise did it. Cid or Jill are with Clive for a large amount of the game so it could have been done
Because they re jobbers game should be called IFRITS WRATH XVI
You have Torgal for that, he even has his own stat sheet on the menu :p
Clive's move set is already overwhelming by itself once you unlock more than one summon.
If you had to manage other party members as well the game would be a mess.
The party should've been made up of dominants. Everyone gets two Eikons for each element.
This is true, more than combos i feel like every encounter is more focused in "now you will spam all your skills right now"
And its not even enjoyable and all that dps to remove 15% of hp at max
>selfish, easily irritable, hates friendship
>only cares about getting the job done
>gets forcefully paired with a bunch of likeable idiots that he needs to babysit as their leader
>progressively starts to care about them and be a better leader for their sake, all done very naturally throughout the game
>learns to appreciate the people who cares about him, and that even he cannot do everything alone
No other protagonist in the series had a development as good as this.
Good concept, shit execution. 8 was a mess, but a cool mess.
I honestly love the ultimecia shit if only because it leads to so many trippy scenarios https://youtu.be/hQdt4yUC7s4?t=169
>boring bland man
He won't be remembered in 10 years like Tidus or Cloud
He's on a mainline FF now
You are stuck with him forever
Just like with Bartz, Firion, Lightning and Noctis
noctis is beloved like cloud and squall
nobody cares about the 2d ff protags or the lower selling FFs
highest selling ff protags
cloud
tidus
noctis
squall
in that order
cope
>barry now tries to attack the entire FF games
lmao
16 isn't ff
keyed
>Firion
His design is top tier. Both his Amano and Nomura designs are peak.
anon, don't do the "oh look, another generic white MALE as the protagonist" thing that journalists and twitter users do. That's not what makes a character memorable, the context of the game is what does it.
Yes actually.
Him telling Hugo he killed his waifu is the most based thing a FF main character has ever done.
almost
Its because clive become a truth gay after then copium fight against ifrit in his mind and accepting he "killed" joshua himself
Nope, he's as generic and dull as it gets
>angry swordsman kills god
swordsman kills god
kino
He inst angry in the whole game just a bad mix of copium and grief after the first timeskip
>a bad mix of copium and grief
Also kino
Nope he cant even kino trashtalk hugo
Even worse
>generic angry mercenary goes on quest for revenge and kills god
How did Final Fantasy sink so low?
>generic angry mercenary goes on quest for revenge and kills god
Do you even play FF games?
All of them. Better question is, do you?
Name one FF game where an angry mercenary goes on a quest for revenge and kills god then.
FFXVI.
It's the only one.
Kek my bad, I thought you were making a sarcastic dig at FF7 and falling way short of the mark.
You get him so late in the game that it doesn't even matter.
By the time he joins your main squad should already be on his level, if not better.
I might have not optimized well enough then, because he was so blatantly better than everyone else when I played and it wasn't even close. Nothing was a challenge unless I deliberately removed him from a battle.
I dunno. The same reason a level 1 Luke got Obi Wan in his party? The same reason Yoshi P give you a pee pee ring to keep your wiener hard if you need help?
They kill Obi Wan early in the movie. TG Cid stays with you to the end.
I didn't earn enough good boy points to get the complimentary wiener ring
He's a crutch character who's there in case you really, really screwed up somehow.
Ramza isn't out for revenge. And he doesn't kill god. Ultima is a demon you fricking moron.
>And he doesn't kill god. Ultima is a demon you fricking moron.
Ultima is literally the god of the game's main religious orthodoxy.
You can claim she's a demon, but that's Ramza's perspective. From the church of Glabados's view she is a god.
She is another lucaria eikon if you take account ff 12 its the star wars prequel
He's not even the biggest chad in his own game
>recycling Thundergod Cid from FFT and killing him
Absolutely no respect for their fanbase or the past games.
>Absolutely no respect for their fanbase or the past games.
yeah, but after seeing the ocean of tears in metacritic, they don't deserve any kind of respect to be honest, so it's fine
Dying isnt a problem but cid is a jobber against any dominant in this game
Thundergod Cid
kino
None of the FF main characters are the biggest chad in their games
ENTER jesus christ i wish this wasn't a fricking mmo
Ardbert was a chad and more edgier and tragic than clive its a shame he was just a saturday patch villian and one narrstive element and wol mcguffin in ShadowBlack folk
I am pretty sure this is literally Clive. As in Yoshi-P decided to give him his own game.
They have a passing visual similarity, but that's it. Clive isn't an irresponsible and habitual troublemaker to the point people get deja vu across dimensions and time periods, and most certainly wouldn't steal someone's pet phoenix just to save some yummy juicy grapes.
Thats ardbert in ShadowBlack folk if he didnt had the mary sue unkillable scions and started to have personality
Jack Garland
This doesn't work because he's the ONLY character in his game. Everyone else exists to make him look better.
Thata your mistake the other party members have plot in their random talks in their respective fiend dungeons ( to look like souls like shit lore)
The guy you beat in FFI?
It was a psyop if you take strangers of paradise as canon
Balthier
here's your FF characters, bro
>the twink
>the bara
>the nerdy twink
>the twink
Igniz and Gladio are constantly calling Noctis out on what a lazy manbaby he tends to be, Prompto is the butt of nearly everyone's jokes, they constantly crackwise about Gladio being a fricking Gorilla, and Noctis is always telling Igniz to get off his ass or mocks him for being such a stickler about shit he doesnt even care about.
spotted the losers who have no friends lmao
15's cast is written like the writer has no concept of what friendships are.
Before playing 15, I'd give Persona 4 and Persona 5 shit for their casts of vapid dickriders with next to no chemistry with eachother who do precious little but fluff the ego of the self-insert character.
Then I played FF15, and realised it's so much worse watching a small group of profoundly characterless robots jerk eachother off over what great friends they are between sessions of teamworking the shaft of the abject black hole of charisma that is the protagonist.
16s plot is written like the writer has no concept of what made game of thrones popular
That's nice, I don't care about 16 because it's not on PC and this is the general FF shitfling popularity thread, not the 16 thread.
He copypaste xenoblade 3 thinking it will be interesting with the main villian bullshit without the uroboros shit
gameplay is also really lacking
feels half baked
2nd half of 16 is just... randomly thrown together it seems
im glad i stopped playing ff with 13
The original Ann Ryuji, Joker, and Morgana had chemistry together in P5.
I just prefer a pet that doesnt talk human like persona 3 dog
I can accept a goofy combat pet like Koromaru. Though I might prefer if they acted like a support upgrade to the main party than a dedicated slot, because it sucks leaving someone behind.
>Everyone after him is an absolute waste of screentime
futaba brought something new to the mix at least. haru and makoto tho? Yeah. waste of effort, time and space
>futaba brought something new to the mix at least
Agoraphobic Fuuka was the worst character in the entire game imo, which is a feat and a half when occupying the same space as Makoto
moron, a fricking comedy anime about drunk college men shows a far better depiction of actual group of friends than XV and its boybands.
those were dark times for the franchise
Is that 15 or 16? I genuinely cannot tell a difference.
Which of these guys is supposed to be the main character?
Sasuke
Dion looks like a typical pretty boy and has a fricking gay tongue duel scene with his boytoy but somehow he still looks more chad than any of these 4 boybands.
The best FF party yet
found the xiv cultists malding and projecting
The worst designs in the entire franchise. Just awful.
>no party
>no castable magic
>no status magic
>no build customization
>no equipment variety
>3 stats
>no itemization
how can shills defend this?
>3 stats
wow 1 stat more than in FFXII
maybe by the time FFXX comes out well finally have something resembling a proper RPG again
Arguably. He's up there as one of the top 3 protagonists in the series for me.
Best as in most well-developed, sure. You really feel like he's a character who lives and breathes in that world and has connections to it, which is important to the plot in a roundabout way
I like him because he is allowed to swear
That's any ps1 ff protag.
>Is he the best FF protagonist?
ENTER
Zzzzzzzzzzz
homosexual, Jack has a high IQ
I liked this one.
Absolute wife material, Snow is the luckiest man in all of FF
People hate everything to do with 13 but Noel and Caius are the best protag+villain pair in one game
well, he's the only one who's not, like 12. and has a hot male bod, instead of being a twink
His waist is as thin as a twink's though
it's called a V fatty.
The shoulderpads made his upper body figure looked wider.
Why'd his dad wear such a loose outfit
What triggers me is that any outfit clive wears when it moves it sounds like rubber latex outfit even if it has plates in the boots
The red part of his top creates an illusion of a thinner waist
Ver bland anime mainchar syndrome imo
Has nothing charming of the older games protags
It has the same charm as older mc the problem is a tired trope, jack garland shitting in jrpg tropes its the most interesting in ff mc besides suffering getting slowly nerfed in that after the bullshit scene and the i dont give a frick to lich
Whats up with 16s characters all having mice faces?
The game is made for maze rats
They re face scanned from mice japs jill have the same face model as remake tifa but they bother to modelate it to be different
It's weirdly nostalgic. Reminds me of old JRPGs where all the 3D models all have the same fricking face
not all of them, clive, barny, cid are fine. Jill, dion, joshua, benedikta, mid are peak rat though. Martha, a literally who npc, is prettier than the love interest because she doesn't have an ugly rat face. i don't know wtf they were thinking
>get what is possibly the biggest turning point in Clive's life after the fight with typhon
>five years later...
Did a fricking AI write this shit?
I'm upset the tattoo removal just gets a mention in passing, like what
Also its unbelievable clive didnt fighted and killed hugo until the timeskip
>I'm upset the tattoo removal just gets a mention in passing, like what
There's a side quest about it where they reveal the brands have poison in them and half the people they did the operation on to remove it died.
just yoshipiss trying to come up with something the west might like
It's probably the worst timeskip I've ever seen from any media in recent times
Anybody else feel the game falling off after the second timeskip?
>rep if the most successful FF
Suck it, this catgitl dabs in everyone itt
if only the gameplay was fun
mmo repetitive with 25+ skills is not fun
Mythos.
The ending felt like Endwalker but worse because there's not even half of the emotional investment FF14 had built up. It falls flat. At least Joshua and Dion died in this one I guess.
Mythos
No youre not mythos you re LOGOS and KINGDOM HEARTS ITS LIGHT
From logos arises order, across all cultures and eras
The ancient gematria of creation - nay, the intrinsic Platonic meaning of law and fruitfulness itself in opposition to that which is unfruitful and discordant.
Logos.
Mythos.
Scions in control.
Ok Koji fox go make thals balls jokes in the troony mmo
German here I never had any problem understanding any of 14 or 16s "olde english" that I see people complain about.
Thats because your language its the father of english if you would be french you will seethe about it
Anybody else cringe a little whenever they called him MYTHOS
the swearing alone makes me cringe
eh, it's fine. they use it when it's appropriate
>the swearing alone makes me cringe
You don't like the instances of frick and shit?
"FUUUUUUUUCK" Benedicta shrieked as Torgal ripped her neck
Nah Ultima pre-second timeskip was the most intriguing and cool shit about it. Everything with Barnabas and going through the crystal checklist was ludocringe
Intriguing... LMAO he is just the plot device of joshua abscence in whole game
Typhon and the Ascian language babble was kino man cmon. You can shit on everything else.
I just laugh at it cause it feels like xenoblade xvi
i miss squares final fantasy games
square enix made X good
but after that.....
16 is basically 14 but as a mainline game unironically
with none of the actual buildup
it's basically just THINGS HAPPEN GET EXCITED
Yeah... i knew the second yoshpiss was in charge that 16 was doomed
Only people defending the game are the troons playing 14 go figure
noctis saved his land and posthumously is remembered as king noctis lucis caelum rex cxiv and fully stopped the starscourge with humanity rebuilding and with a new energy source in astral shards
clive dies and is forgotten to time and didn't even fix the shit the blight fricked up and everyone is back to mudhuts
Noctis died a virgin, didnt even beat the actual threat that was Bahamut
Lmao
nope
>as if he could ever touch Iris while Gladio was around
He died a Virgin, not even a crumb of pussy
>he didn't do the flowers for iris sidequests
gladio gave his approval
MMO devs = MMO quality = Do not Play
>Searching for posts that contain ‘MMO Devs = MMO Quality’ and posts after 2023-01-01. 147 results found.
A simple truth always bears repeating.
"MMO devs"+"MMO quality"
Thought I'd keep it as rigid as possible to get just the ritual drivel and no crossfire.
Mentally ill zeldagay
I don't know about the first one, but the second post is very blatantly bazztek.
Improper grammar, needless ellipses, yoshipiss, and 14 troon all in the same post.
>buZZZZZwords the post
PSP devs = PSP quality = get fired = get your studio dismantled
Is that why luminous worked on ff16 in the same capacity that platinumgames and cbu1 did?
also the ffxv map and level designers were literally ff16s map and level designers
ffxv animation guy since versus was a ff16 lead animator
two concept artists guys from xv were on ff16s concept art team too
a ffxv combat guy was on ff16s player combat design too
terada and aramaki and Kanbayashi all worked on ff16 too
Make up your mind bazza, is 16 shit because of yoshitpiss or is it shit because 15's devs did all the work?
its shit because of ff14 hacks
the lumipro chads could only do so much to salvage 16 under a hack director and luckily nobody from based xv was involved in the atrocious story or sidequests of 16
Most gigachad, yes.
mythos
There should be an anti-video-game-economy. In other words, people are allowed to spend money to de-buy games. I would spend tes of thousands of dollars on de-buying shit like this so cancerous companies like Shitnix make less profit.

Feels good
I fricking got baited by the victory fanfare in demo.
But going hybrid might give us something unique and fresh like VII:RE.
the last time a mainline FF had a turn-based system was 23 years ago. the series hasn't been turn-based for longer than it's ever existed.
It is it's own game, separate like all the others.
moron.
I accept your concession
There will never ever be a mainline turnbased or proper ATB entry again. At most youll get some weird hybrid like 7R.
You arent getting another game with 4-9 or 10 combat. Period. Ever. Just telling you
They're never going back to turn based or ATB, it's always going to be an action RPG. The question is how much focus they're going to put on the RPG side of things.
XVII will be KINO. XVI's massive failure will lead to Yoshida "resigning" in shame and CBU3 slowly being melted as the MMO melts away too.
Nomura will take Full Control, and the company will be focused on single player JRPGs.
I just hope it'll party based with everyone controllable
Daddy
Hands down. Jill is the best heroine too. The cast is a bit thin though. I like everyone in the "main party" a lot, but there are few of them compared to other titles in the series.
Waste of a character design on a dull character
>best
>dies in the end
???
Do the sidequests, it's so blatant that he lives it's insane.
>Jill compares him coming for her to the sun always rising
>Harpocrates gifts him a quill so he can write his story
>>Jill compares him coming for her to the sun always rising
hhhhehehehe
hohohohoho
so noctis is alive because cor says he'll await seeing noctis at dawn?
Wouldn't want it any other way
noctis is fricked by dudes
All the characters in this game are so bland and boring that somehow Clive's goofy as dumb uncle ended up my favorite character. He's just so much fun whenever he's around and he's somehow the only character that actually seems happy and not a dour piece of shit. Well, Gav is fun too.
Best characters (not necessarily in order)
Cid
Dion
Uncle
Gav
Ultima
Dad
Mom
Lord Commander
Barnabas is kinda kino if he actually got more time and chemistry with Clive
We overreach you, Claire deniers. You don't believe in anything. You gave up on Final Fantasy before Bary was even born, sat poisonong it by doomposting on Ganker and /ffg/, waiting for someone to come and destroy you and the series. Sure, you think the end of Final Fantasy is salvation. All you care about is death's release. So take it, and leave Final Fantasy alone. We don't think like that. When we think there's no hope for Final Fantasy left, we keep looking for our Pure Heroine and Muse until we find her. Maybe Final Fantasy is past saving, but it's our beloved series. And we will protect it and make it great again with power of Claire or die trying.
WE LIVE TO MAKE IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE!
THAT IS OUR FOCUS!
Didn't read all that, your stick figure is physically repulsive
>I-I didn't r-read!! n-no I-I don't like her!!
Claire danier, be honest with yourself, not with me, but with youself. You love her and you know it.
Nah, if we're talking 13 then Fang was way hotter.
They are all best girls and nice characters equally.
This is the best FF protagonist.
her sister is better
he looks gay
He is ever so slightly too bara for my liking. Most ff protags have been twinks and i prefer it that way.
Hes just a rugged masculine adult swordsman. Stop trying to insert your homoshit into everything you fricking pornbrained troony weirdo
no you don't understand, my ff mc needs to be peggable and have a breedable bussy like King Noctis, his Royal Shield, his chef and best photographer!
I may be a gay but im not a troony. Dont sully my name with that
You Black folk don’t even know what bara means.
>bara shinji ikari
>best protag
lol, lmao even
Jack exists. Sora too.
>Jack and Clive and Sora are the best
Stellagay have you finally played KH2 yet?
>Stellagay
Who?
It freaks me out that he genuinely said everything has to be emo, bleak and 'soshully relevint' to be good. Nomura has a hanger on forever
Have you guys read the theory that says Nomura made Jack his self-insert?
>dies after being used up as a cumrag by "god"
>best at anything
lol
lmao
He cant even kill a chocobo with a sword only or catch a ball
He is good, but nah.
I feel like he coul've been better if the story "gave" more things to him.
he's horrifically boring. complete snoozer
but powerscaling wise yeah he's the strongest.
30 FRICKING % how hard did this game flop?
its time to embrace the rope barry; it’s over
Why do they make villains and side characters more badass and cool than the protagonists?
Barnabas and Hugo >>>>> Clive. I wanted to play with Hugo since the trailer.
Hugo was a moron but at least he did some things.
Barnabas and Benedikta got the short end of the stick.
Such a waste.
They are cucks and simps barnabas is mored badly written than fricking vergil
>Hugo is heterossexual
>Dion is homossexual
I FRICKING HATE THIS. THIS IS HOMOPHOBIA.
Do they even know gays are obsessed with men like Cidolfus and Hugo and gays DON'T like men like Dion?
Fujoshi pandering. They weren't pandering to gays. If they were pandering to gays Hugo would be the gay one.
Actually I think Hugo would've been more menacing had he been gay
Like, twist his hateboner for Cid (and by extension, Clive) in a way that would've scared the bejesus out of both of them
Barnabas is a degenerate coomer
Are Hugo and Barnabas alive? Can you play with them?
Hugo is a cuckhold so no
He's the most attractive and has the best voice, which is enough to carry him through having no personality. The writing doesn't save him, his VA does. Cid, meanwhile, is easily the best Cid.
I'm really thinking some people are mixing Ben Starr with what Clive really is.
Imagine the kino if the party were in the room when this happened and you would have to fight your former party member
Yet another missed opportunity. That's my biggest beef with FF16. I like it, though really
>could've had the pixel models walk around the map
>could've poked some fun at the Bearer/Master dynamic Clive and Jill had earlier on
>Actually, they could've had fun with Clive and Jill in general
Plus others I missed. Still solid game overall though
I feel like this with every character to be honest.
They dont get anything beyond of what the plot asks them. They really spent all that dev time doing those setpieces.
I think they did right by Cid, and the dynamic between Clive and Joshua was okay too
which is why it's so funny that they bungled the handling of Jill and Clive's relationship
Another missed opportunity. If they were gonna do something like GoT, they should've leaned into it more.
>all these nobles scheming and planning so they could get ahead
>the very thing they need is magic, and lots of it
>the guy giving them what they need is one and the same: Ultima
>when all these noble buttholes kill each other off/Clive kills them and destroys their mothercrystals, he appears
>goodjobclive.jpg
And other shit SE could've done. But hey, there's always next time.
That's the biggest problem with XVI's writing. It very clearly wants to be a GoT clone but doesn't do a particularly good job of it.
I don't get it.
all they cared about was making normalgays say "wow, this is just like game of thrones"
Do we know what it will take for mainstream normals to like Final Fantasy again?
call me a party gay but i feel the game would be so much more involved if we had clive, joshua, jill, dion and maybe benedikta walking around with us dealing with this shit
No I agree, It was OK when Cid was still around. but just Jill and Clive are incredibly boring together
>Benedikta
They could've pulled a Ceres on her, really. I was hoping that Cid brought her to the Hideaway after the fight with Garuda, but I was expecting too much. As for Dion and Josh, they would've been nice to have though it might just make the game longer than it should be
I really was expecting a Fordola redemption for her. She went out without any meaningful development whatsoever and only existed as Hugo's hateboner.
>have Benedikta survive the Ifrit battle
>reveal Ultima being in bed with Barney earlier
>have benedikta journeying with us wanting to get her King Barnabus back
>have a sad scene where she kills Barney
could've been kino. why the frick did she die so early.
>why the frick did she die so early.
Because otherwise it wouldn't SHOCKING and GRITTY
>As for Dion and Josh, they would've been nice to have though it might just make the game longer than it should be
Yes, but they could have cut the million other moments that didn't need to be in the game
>but they could have cut the million other moments that didn't need to be in the game
True. I imagine that they would've had to rewrite the second half to accommodate them, but it would've been good if they had done that
This. My dream 16 would be this, though I wouldn't mind another girl like Mid perhaps. Benedikta is such a waste it kills me.
Mid is so hot she drives me mad, bros...
It's not fricking fair
>ywn run your tongue up those porcelain-white arms and that beautiful neck
GOD DAMN IT
your waifu is mid
>your waifu is mid
Why yes! Yes she is. Mid Telamon, at your service!
SEXXXXOOOOOO
Should be Jill's name instead
Mid and Jote are so much better than Jill... don't even care if Clive survived or not cause who cares about Jill, that b***h was so fricking useless and barely ever primed to help you.
>Jote
I can already see the fanfic in my head
>Joshua and Jote are on their travels
>Joshua, being the sickly boy that he is, has to rest
>And Jote, being his faithful retainer, attends to his every need.
>Making his medicine...
>... giving him a wiping bath...
>... chewing his food for him...
>... feeding him mouth-to-mouth...
i don't think FF has had a chad like this since Cecil in FFV
there's been nothing but twinks emos, pweety bois one surfer dude and nomura's waifu
But out of all the things they could have taken inspiration for to make this game it had to be Game of Thrones?
fricking plebian normalgay show
>Is he the best FF protagonist?
>literally me tier
i want my protagonists sexy af to identify
what i love about this guy is that he doesn't scream weeb stuck in the 90s. Finally the japs designed something fresh.
Now i wish he was writen better than any jrpg protag from the 90s.
No, but he's pretty okay
what's the status on the gay sex cutscene? is it still in?
Easily the best performance of any of the actors playing a protagonist at the very least. I love the fact that his original 15 year old design is meant to reflect the traditional Final Fantasy hero but he loses absolutely everything and the entire story is about him rising back up from nothing to stardom.
Sometimes it feels like that XVI is what XIV would've turned up to be if the HW writer stayed honestly.
He's basically a Eastified, less interesting Jon Snow, so no
They drew far too much inspiration from Game of Thrones, and they drew it badly
Is Ultima from 16 one of the weakest villains from this series? I like the fight and what simbolizes. But as a villain i felt like they were painfully flat, maybe they could've done more with it? idk.
Every time i look at the other villains from FF i think they do a great job (necron isnt actually a main villain because it just appears at the end, not in the entire game like ultima). But ultima was...
Kuja/Garland aren't great villains either ignoring Necron. Not a fan of space parasite Jenova either.
I will say that 9's is also boring
And i like jenova, its aspect of being a deceitful parasite is interesting. Even more when it manifests itself through sephiroth
hmm
Golbez, Exdeath, Kefka, Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Jecht, Kuja and the old man... yeah i would say all of them are better or more interesting.
Like, for example, with all the ruins scattered around and the Crystaline Orthdoxy, I could already see how SE could've squeezed in shit like 'They used to worship one god, and one god only...' and such
I agree with
in that his appearance fits with the theme, but making it "realistic" by having him enter the story suddenly doesn't make for good fiction in my book
>It fits perfectly with the game's themes, but doesnt mean that makes it objectively a good or interesting villain.
As said here.
It's funny.
Ragnarok does have a bunch of plotlines at the same time, which is why people say its bloated then they rush the end of it.
>we need surtr to enter asgard
>oh wait we don't cause dwarf shit
>oh wait he is going crazy, someone stop him because the asgards are actually on our side
>OOPSIE we blew up your land Sif I hope you don't mind
Yeah but you see things through the eyes of 2 characters. They never tried to set up 6 different kingdoms in Ragnarok.
Ragnarok was awful, that game has such dogshit writing, the dialogue especially was god damn horrendous, yet it's still treated as a masterpiece.
I'll say that XVI's spectacle was heads and shoulders above Ragnarok. Ragnarok was dull, tepid.
I had like 3 different theories about what typhoon could've been, and i prefer all of them than just a random alien servant.
And on top of that, Typhon looks stupid. When he crawled out of that portal I think that's when I realized this game wasn't going to be as great as I thought it was. I could almost feel the normies tuning out.
I like typhoon, but they really put it there just for "why not"
Typhon section was just cool for being cool (but framed as Ultima testing your strength as a vessel) which I think worked, the problem is that from that point on the entire story is just disconnected moments of cool for coolness sake entirely. Until the final confrontation with Ultima where the game tries to create smth about parralels and differences between humans and Ultima when that is not something that was dealt with prior to the big endgame exposition time 2 hours from the end.
I agree that everything else about Ultima as far as design and feel was done well, the story just isnt there to support ur
no you fricking moron, warrior of light is
They did mention Leviathan near the ending, do you guys think it will be a DLC?
Yoshida said if the reception is good, then they will do some DLC. The game does have DLC setup since they could easily shove some stuff into that 5 year timeskip.
which is YoshiP speak for the DLC being in development already and is gonna be announced shortly before the PC port unless XVI is a gigaflop
This shit is already done bro
You dont start building a dlc after a game releases nowadays. You need to have it planned for multiple years in advance. It's probably already being finished.
I groaned when Ultima shows up after the Bahamut fight yapping on about consciousness, bleh.
They really need some sharper localization teams for this kind of "high concept" Jap dialogue, and I think this team was great to begin with, sadly. Why a sudden dichotomy between "will" and "consciousness", it's weird and feels muddled.
>NOT IT CAN'T BE! HIS WILL IS TOO POWERFULL!!!
really...
he looks like a rodent
No. But I like him.
Tiamatbros he didn't deserve his fate, it was supposed to bros over hoes...
>the missing pet sidequest in Royal Meadows where Clive traumatizes the little b***hy girl
Based
>Nationalists prostitute
Dare I say based?
>Joshua never once holds up Clive on mauling him
>Even goes as far as to apologize himself instead after their reunion
I was worried about how they would handle him but I wasn't disappointed, what a good boy.
