Music is so bad it drove me to stop playing, I'm not joking
Based Gankergay
I got all the way to the desert bug boss thing and when I heard the theme for the fight I was just like no this is dogs dogshit. Music is very important to me in a game
Check out this theme
>music in 11 sucks
>how about this music from a different game in the serie
ummm
Isn't the majority of the OST from past games though?
Nah. Maybe like 1/4th of them. The OST has the usual amount of new songs. The problem is, DQXI is so long, you stay in each area for so long reading dialogue, and you backtrack to the same areas so often, you hear each song a million times. Whereas in the old games, you'd hear the song loop maybe once and you're already on your way to the next town/dungeon.
And while I don't think the songs are bad, they aren't as memorable as the music from Dragon Quest I-VIII.
This is great, I don't think I heard this
It's the late game overworld theme
iirc it's the overworld theme in part 2
part 3 kind of sucks as a story and is only there to save a character who really isn't worth it, plus retroactively makes other characters lose some development
>same track for every single town
>same track for night/day
what were they thinking
Bum bum bum buuu baa
Bum bum bum buuuu ba
Bom bom boooooooooo ba
I can confirm this. I tried the game and it's fun, but the music will make you feel fricking insane. I turned down the music and it turns out the game is completely lacking any sort of ambience. The cities are lifeless, there are no people talking, nothing. It's absolutely fricking lifeless.
>very sad moment plays in a cutscene
>generic town theme continues blasting in the speakers
This is probably the worst case of me trying my hardest to like a game and still dropping it. I don't even know why. I love JRPGs and I loved both DQ 4 and 8 and I'm currently really enjoying 5, but this game just bore me to tears. Everyone calls this the best JRPG of the last decade and I just feel like I went insane or something.
People say the orchestral mod fixes this but honestly, even then the OST is repetitive and uninspired as frick compared to previous games.
No, it's a Dragon Quest game, and no, it's running on Switch hardware
/thread
if you play 1 dragon quest game, this one will certainly do. that said its frickin LOOOOOONG and theres a lot of padding, but its still very charming
Yes, and Yes. Its embarassing seeing games like SMTV, and seeing how poorly they run, DQ11S on switch is a fabulous port of the game, with low loading times, none/few fps drops, and good implementation to counter pop-in.
>Its embarassing seeing games like SMTV, and seeing how poorly they run
That game looks absolutely stunning next to any pokemon game
It's great if you like JRPGs. Especially nice in handheld mode. Music is hit or miss, but some tracks are really good. Play the demo and if it hooks you like it did me, you won't regret it. Progress carries over to the main game.
It runs well and looks good on switch and is fun.
i love JRPGS but this is one of the most bloated cliche ones out there. Play DQ5 instead
I tried getting into this game and it filtered me twice. I really want to like it
How to get past the guards?
What guards?
After you do some shit in the slums and Eric realises his gem was stolen
You can sick a dog on him, go through a hole some dude is digging on a scaffold or get the fat innkeeper to write a note pretending to be a dancer girl for the guard.
I already used the dog. What's next?
To get to the palace area you climb up a roof in the main part of town and walk across some tightropes
I swear, I searched everywhere in the town even explored all the roofs and couldn't find it.
Thanks
YOU ARE A NOOB
Holy shit bro are you moronic? Go play far cry or something
pretty sure the game literally gives you a pointer to the npc you're meant to talk to
its a Great-great game, this video by tim rogers mirrors a lot of my sentiment towards that Big ass game, https://youtu.be/4iTbUGItU0s
This video convinced me to buy it back in 2018 lol. Picking up definitive edition on Switch later was an easy buy. Such a chill game.
journos from Kotaku are fricking GAY
but this guy is pretty based
Yeah, frick Kotaku. That video is only good because they let Rogers go off about a game he's passionate about
I agree, it also helped me gain an understanding that I didn't have on how regular japanese salarymen treat DQ.
Personally, I think that the game is fine wine.
His video gave me deeper appreciation of the series despite the deepthroating.
They still reigned him in a lot with this as it's mostly focused on the actual game and not some shit like a 1 hour exposition on his favourite jacket like in his other videos
lol. Ur right. I like the anecdotes he gives in his newer videos, i find them entertaining
Only 8mins in and I’m hooked. Will now buy DQ11 and hero in Smash.
It has a colorful artsyle that makes it look good on everything even the switch, it's a bit sharper on other systems of course.
I played it on Switch and wish I played it on PC for the real big boy experience but it was a great gae and it ran pretty alright. It's on the switch so it's 30fps but it's pretty solidly 30fps.
Yes, it is a good game but it is not amazing and Act 3 could ruin the whole thing for you.
Yes, it runs well on the Switch but obviously the other platforms run it better.
It's really good. I don't know how well it run on the Switch
Download the demo and try it out.
Progress carries into the full game if you end up liking it.
Yes and yes, but don't play it in English. Shit's embarrassing.
The English dub is technically the original since the japanese version didn't get a dub until the re-release
No, no it's not
But he's right.
yes, yes it is
they didn't have voice acting in the original japanese release because "muh nostalgia"
Oh frick I forgot there was no written dialogue in the Japanese release and all the characters just mimed out the story.
you realize "dub" means voiced content?
talking about a "dub" is not talking about the writing, you fricking dumb moron
And the English dub isn't the original because it's not based on the original script, but based on fanfiction bullcrap.
It's decent, only DQ game I've played and I can say that (if you turn on fast forward and literally never turn it off) it's pretty enjoyable. The final boss was a massive pain in the ass and I'm thankful you can glitch one of the trophies so you don't have to beat the super superboss.
It is legitimately the only good JRPG released in the last decade. I am not even being ironic. And by JRPG I mean real JRPGs ie, 4homiesinarow.
As a massive DQ fan, I wouldn't say it's the best game in the series. But that's because it focuses far more on linear story and melodrama than most DQ games. It's closer to a Final Fantasy game like FF12 than it is most DQ games. But a lot of people also love it for that very reason. If you like the sound of that, try it out. Also realize you'll have to put up with one of the most altered translations in gaming history.
As for running well, it's one of the best looking games on Switch. Because they completely remade it in a new engine just to get it working on Switch. People b***h because the Switch version isn't "as good" as the PS4/PC version. But it's not that big of a difference. And the Switch version adds like 30 hours of new content, as well as UI and QoL improvements the original game should have had.
>Also realize you'll have to put up with one of the most altered translations in gaming history.
honestly, frick you homosexual
Why are you so mad? If you like the changes, then fine. But it's still true. Over half the games dialogue is changed. Which you can tell because the Switch version allows you to turn on Japanese voices.
>Japanese voice: Mermaid says one word
>English translation: two whole sentences of text because the mermaid has to make a rhyme
they put in all the new switch stuff on the ps4 version now too
Dragon Quest XI actually looks better than first party games like BotW. Probably because it got rid of the bloom effects. I think Kirby Forgotten Land is the only game that might give it a run for its money. And that's because it uses many of the same design concepts and tricks.
Demo is 7+ hours long. Why don't you download it and try?
Dragon Quest?
>Is it a good game
Yes after DQ8, DQ5 and maybe DQ4 it's the best DQ game
Probably the best starting point too
>does it look good/run well on switch
Yes looks amazing on switch, 720p 30fps. theres obviously some visual cuts from the PS4 but overall it's still a beautiful game. it puts gamefreak to absolute shame. Also has a 2D mode where the entire game can bd played in 2D.
It's a good game. Don't play it on switch it's a bad console.
I agree. Shit console. It doesn't have Life of Black Tiger.
dont play it on switch, play it on 3ds instead
I wanna play this version in english so fricking badly
It's funny because to me DQ11 is a celebration of the original trilogy of games, and it becomes very apparent later in the game, but it's the game everyone is starting with, I guess there's enough there for newcomers anyway. Also frick anyone who says this soundtrack isn't good, you have zero fricking taste.
i assume a majority of the people who dont like the soundtrack Played the original release, with all the synthesized ost, but... i also understand the criticism regarding the lack of new music with dq11, Still like the new ost that we DID get.
Two point
The 'original' synth soundtrack on PS/PC was awful. Well, it made the following point much worse
the world music of a marching beat was horribly monotonous, and pervasive. Players were hearing it everywhere, and originally with the synth soundtrack it was far less bearable.
It harkened back to the old days of overworld music, but simply put, it really didn't work well in XI.
Otherwise, even the synth soundtrack wasn't bad - but that world exploration track is just too ever present and too... not good for an inspiring comfy fantasy adventure. Change that one ever present tune to something like your embed related, and people's opinions would be polar opposite.
It's terrible in all ways but just graphics and even those apparently were downgraded for the dlc cash ins edition.
No. For a DQ game it's incredibly dull and uninspired. The music is atrocious, and the localization is even worse.
Haven't played it on switch.
Yes its one of the best JRPGs ever made
