Is it accurate to say that Crash Bandicoot was the first time that a U.S. console game was genuinely good?

No, Crash Bandicoot sucked balls.
Based. This game fricking sucks. It's just sluggishly walking down corridors and waiting for platforms to move.
Skill issue.
I didn't enjoy it as a kid, at all. I liked it better when I got older. But I never thought it was a great game.
No. I can think of a few good console games developed in the US that were earlier than that.
>Aladdin (for Genesis)
>Earthworm Jim
>Shadowrun
>Vectorman
>Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Those are the ones I can think of that aren't ports from computers or arcades, anyway.
All games you listed except for Aladdin sucked.

Pleb taste. Ewj still has better animations than nu-platformers today.
Shadowrun is amazing.
You thought Earthworm Jim and Zombies Ate My Neighbors sucked? Bad taste. Not just shit, but bad.
Aladdin's the worst one of these...
Have a (You), you've earned it.
NBA Jam was produced in the US and it's probably the most fun I've had with a sports game.
>NBA Jam was produced in the US and it's probably the most fun I've had with a sports game.
But it's a port from the arcade. If we're including those, there are hundreds of decent US-developed arcade ports, especially from the pre-NES days.
I could never get past the first initial mission on shadow run. I kept dying in the sewer or whatever.
To be honest Aladdin and Earthworm Jim are the only good games on your list
I feel like they're more technical showcases than extremely good games.
Earthworm Jim I especially wanted to like, but it's honestly not a great platformer or run n gun and feels too janky.
>there are people that don't like Zombies Ate My Neighbours
Aladdin Genesis was developed by a bong dev, it wasn't American.
no
There are very very few western games which are good. Crash Bandicoot is not one of them.
You talk like Greendog doesn't exist
the first few levels are passabky alright and when you get into the sideview shit it turns into eurjank tier garbage
slippery climb is peak sidescrolling platforming, some of the best the genre ever saw
My main issue with Crash's level design is how much the platforming is timing related. Going for the gems can be extra tedious.
the timers almost always activate in a window based on proximity, much of the time you can blow right thru timing based challenges with decent memorization skills or being brave enough to take things as they come instead of hesitating
>slippery climb is peak sidescrolling platforming
Road to Nowhere is peak platforming bullshit.
It rules (of 3's)
It's not that hard, except for the hogs and their crappy hitbox. Can't stand the High Road and its turtles bullshit though.
holy shit, since when did crash make people seethe so much?
since it wasn't on n64
there are a ton of good PS1 games but crash is middling at best
It's a good platformer and despite there being a few copycats like that donald duck game and lilo and stitch its obvious crash is the best of its kind
for a game with at least some 3d it's pretty respectable, lot of stuff on the ps1 that's not nearly as polished.
Crash 1 & Mario 64 are equally dull, but I'd rather have a hacking "community" for Crash 1 in comparison to the moronic, bing bing wahoo fanbase.
I really don't get why people consolewar on this board. It's really not up for debate that Mario is a good game, as are Sonic and Crash. How goes the wife search you jaded Gen X loser?
Enjoy your divorce.
>anyone who doesn't like crash MUST be a nintendo fanboy!
Nah, frick off.
Jumping Flash is the real unsung hero of the PS' 3D platforming genre. Crash is just a corridor simulator with wonky hitboxes.
they're both good games, calm your breasts
They're angry that they're all dweebs that have to join cults and pay for friends to be liked in life
Pitfall
This anon gets it. There's some good stuff in the Atari days.
>Is it accurate
Opinions are never accurate information, and will never be accurate
yes
SNES Doom is a flawless masterpiece
earthworm jim is cool
No, it isn't.
Nah, you're just being a pussy as usual
>which version?
I meant the Genesis version. I forgot about the SNES version (haven't played it yet).
>it’s probably the only good Australian developed console gam
homie de blob, sonic mania, la noire, transformers 2004, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger series, hollow knight
Everyone in this thread sucks. Crash is awesome, frick you all.
I prefer Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
It's a typical Naughty Dog game that is only liked for it's graphics and "cinematic" gameplay like running away from the camera or towards it. It's got horribly tedious and repetitive levels and runs out of ideas very quickly.
The original Naughty Dog people left after the Jak series. It could as well be two different companies.
Except Crash is identical to certain non-retro Naughty Dog games in terms of horrendous design that's horribly overrated by people distracted by presentation.
Just say you don't like set pieces.
Crash and The Last of Us have nothing in common.
check out the japanese kurashu bandikku disc art, it's excellent
Nipponese Crash looks so moronic, no wonder it flopped over there.
Crash sold very well over there actually. I think Crash 2 was one of the best selling PS1 games. PS1 was when Japan stopped making games for normies so a simple 3d platformer like Crash was a big deal
He looks like a kitsune about to hentai that girl.
Crash wasn't any good at all until Crash 3, and Spyro 1 beat it to the punch by a month.
No. Let's break this down piece by piece.
>Crash Bandicoot was good?
No, it is average at best. It's like a poor man's DKC.
>US console game
Sonic 2 was made in the United States, making it the only known good console game to have ever released of such origin
I think most of the self-hating Anglos on this board are actually Huns or Mexicans
This game is extremely shit on the PS1 but the N. Sane trilogy remake makes it playable and arguably it shines the most through its level design. Too bad the original had shitty unresponsive controls and a crappy save system where you never really could progress far enough in a single session.
It sucks. Frogs and Flies on the 2600 is a good early round-eye console game
i'll just leave this here
For me, it's Road Rash II
Pong predates it by about 20 years.
But I'll be fair to the meming troll OP; I can't think of a single PC game developed in Japan that's playable, let alone "good". Even their ports are absolute dogshit that come with warnings.
Plenty of US made Atari 2600 games were good for their day
