Kind of, the story is incoherent nonsense, but the wii one just feels worse compared to how tight the original is. Still worth playing I'd say, but if you're able to play the wii one surely you'd be able to play the 64 one

For this game, yes. Getting the rom on a wii is 100% perfectly compatible and works perfect, I understand original hardware autism, but this is like getting a PS1 to play Abes Oddysee when the PS2 is backwards compatible

No, I will talk about its composer instead.
Yoshitaka Azuma only composed for 2 video games in his life, the first PD game and Virus (also on the Saturn). Just by PD alone he's one of my favorite game composers, and when I found out he has a bunch of studio albums I gave them a listen. They're pretty cool:
Nah my man it's good. Obviously the first stage is the crown israeliteel, but it has a lot of good stuff. You should give it a listen outside the game, it's easy to get immersed and not pay too close attention to the music when you're in thick of it:
There's also some extended tracks that didn't get used in the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cks33u1Ffs0
i don't care for these games. if you want a shmup, there are much better options. i also feel like these games beg to be played with a mouse or lightgun. playing them with a controller feels wrong.
idk, i suck at it hard. apparently its the easiest game in the franchise (of like only 5 games) too. i played it first cause they said it was a prequel to the first game. kind of embarassing
>those long pauses in the prologue between attacks and enemies that can’t damage you anyway so there’s no point even bothering >that sequence in the desert where you fly off the cliff and slowly land that goes on for like a minute >the entire b route of that level where you fly over bare, featureless desert with 30 seconds between easy attacks >the entire forest level where you’re never fighting more than 5 enemies at a time with like 30 seconds of nothing between attacks >elevator.webm >the full minute pause in the christmas episode between the last attack and the boss >the multiple sequences in the final level where you’re just slowly being pulled through tunnels with no enemies to fight
Maybe I should make a compilation of these parts like I did this webm
It's a masterpiece. The one sequel that is actually better than the original
Panzer Zwei having a dedicated nintendo troll is really all the proof you need it's a great game. When the spammers need to retroactively defend and prepare evidence against any game that threatens their precious console it's just proof that it is as great as it's claimed to be.

The same guy who made all those floigan zelda posts? Nah lol
>that sequence in the desert where you fly off the cliff and slowly land that goes on for like a minute
That's the first time your dragon manages to fly on his own. It's supposed to be drawn out because it is a monumental moment, and it showcases the feeling of flying over the vast empty landscape with only the horizon giving you any sense of direction.
Prior to that moment you are just riding a chocobo lizard. From that moment forward you are riding a flying dragon.
The entire sequence is justified in this.
also, learn what the frick pacing means. A few pauses here and there will build anticipation for the next incoming rush. On top of that it also allows you to gather your wits, and if you like you can just look around at the wonderful scenery.
>also, learn what the frick pacing means. A few pauses here and there will build anticipation for the next incoming rush
PDZ is way too tame to justify the constant pauses.
It's alright, I like the presentation more than anything, but if you want to get red pilled, play Panzer Dragoon Orta, the true kino of the Panzer series.
The original is classic but a tad bare bones and Zwei is a lot easier in comparison, but otherwise one of the most beautiful Saturn games bar none.
I like the first game over it honestly. While Zwei adds a lot to the formula, there's something about the first one that makes it a lot more interesting for me. I played them all back in 2021 and probably put the most time into the first game just cause of how hard it was. Hell, I didn't know you could hold down the button to shoot until my third attempt yet I still got to Stage four mashing the frick outta my controller.
The game looks stunning even today honestly, it must've been so cool to pop that in your Saturn back in 1995 and just be blasted with the first scene. It's a difficult game and I actually came to appreciate that as I went through it and retrying the game again and again seeing my accuracy go up and being rewarded with extra lives felt very satisfying.
While it's not told to you, I really do enjoy the story of that game when I looked it up halfway through. Having the empire send their entire fleet to stop your advance and you break through honestly feels incredible, and then rushing through their capital while being fired upon by the opposing dragoon you're trying to stop, the remnants of the army AND civilians/soldiers down below it just becomes so fricking hectic especially when you're on your last life and so close to beating the game. Those two stages are my favourite in the game and I just love the music that's played during those parts.
(I especially love the part at 2:59)
I finished Zwei in one sitting and thought it was good but a bit too easy. I consider Saga a different game entirely so I don't like comparing it to the other games (like comparing Pokémon and the TGC game) but that's also quite impressive, and Orta is good too (also very cool that's it's backwards compatable with the Xbox One and can be played in 4k pretty much)
I kinda wish Sega would give it another shot but knowing them they'd frick it up somehow.
I found PD1 to be too basic, the first level has great atmosphere and music, but the rest of the game is kinda meh.
Zwei starts great and keeps getting better with easy stage, with more crazy level design, enemy formation, bosses, and also the branching paths.
If you think it's easy, try unlocking the true ending.
>The game looks stunning even today honestly
I can see this from an aesthetic perspective, which I feel Zwei still looks stunning, but PD1 is lacking in the department and I feel like it ages poorly. Also the framerate is a little bit jarring, but for some reason when I play it on original hardware, it doesn't feel as bad compared to an emulator.
>Immense focus on story and worldbuilding in its gameplay >Dumbass points scoring plastered all over the screen to remind you that all you're seeing is trivial and secondary to watching the numbers go up, no more immersive than a sunday morning cartoon

I would have much rather have a single path where you take flight on the cliff, have the air raid section, chill for a bit, land and go through the fortress

Panzer Dragoon games are style over substance. Very shallow games.

Mainly Zwei. Just keep waggling the aiming reticle around and never stop firing.
Confirmed for never having played the game.
Zwei si top rail shooter of 5th gen along with S&P and SF64
I literally made this webm
and you can see me doing it in every clip.
Looks cherrypicked plus it's not the optimal strategy every time plus you're not constantly firing as you also need to stop for the lock on laser
It IS cherrypicked to make the game look varied and dense.
This is completely random but it's nice to see threads about actual Saturn games and not just arcade ports or JP exclusives for once
There is not a single good iteration of panshit shartgoon. Stick to Afterburner and Space Harrier
I prefer After Burner as well honestly, though I haven't played Panzer Dragoon Orta
