I would also like to know as I need something to scratch that Fallout 1 and 2 itch that I have at the moment
I really like it. It's the most I've got to having a game kind of similar to Fallout except it's set in a fantastical setting going through industrial revolution.
The unofficial arcanum patch is a must, but i must admit i'm not a fan of the more later patches like those that allow you to allot level up points for your companions. The game is already too easy as it is without that feature. So I'm stuck to using the 091125 or something patch version.
The low-int dialog is warrants another playthrough. It's also one of the most reactive CRPGs out there that even Lilura acknowledges how reactive the game is. There are also usually multiple ways to approach things in the game. The combat is a b***h though, specially for tech users.
Play fallout 2 total conversion mods.
It’s pretty fricking good, the best crpg game I’ve played is by far underrail.
Anon your ATOM RPG?
How good it is depends on your tolerance for oldness and jank.
Its a must play if you love roleplaying and old school rpgs.
If this isn't you then don't bother
It's terrible. Just another one of many RPGs carried entirely by dialogue options.
It's very sad that the adventure game genre isn't vogue, because so many RPGs would be a lot better if they were adventure games. Even Arcanum, if you ditch combat but kept the build system, would have been an excellent adventure/RPG like Quest for Glory.
like most of Troika's games, it's a case of ridiculous ambition and soul being held back by technical issues and often poor gameplay
Play it and find out for yourself, you dumb homosexual.
Lots of jank like the previous poster said but it's up there as one of my favourite isometric games. Great build variety even if it does lean towards magic as op. Best spell in the game is available at level 1 and depends on how fast you can click.
The premise is unique and gameplay loop is identical to fallout 1/2 so if that's your cup of tea I'd say go for it. Get the unofficial patches.
how is spamming harm the entire game fun
story and plot of course, but the combat is a slog and very dated. Just watch a lets play
It's a bad game that keeps some good content cruelly imprisoned in its walls.
It's a true successor to Fallout.
Fallout's combat is simple but fun. Arcanum's combat is just pathetic.
Explain your opinion.
Play one of Arcanum's dungeons and try defending it.
Turn based is a slog but real time arcanum works for me tbh. Just get harm and turn it into cookie clicker
play it
its decent but not great. not much in the way of story and the combat is kinda shit, particularly for magic
Possibly some of the most creative and interesting build variety I've seen in an RPG
Too bad the combat is total dog shit
The story and world is amazing, but man, every single time I've tried to play it I end up bouncing off it.
The gameplay is so, so bad. It was bad at release and it's only gotten worse since.
Played it since I was maybe 5 or 6 and give it a rerun every handful of years. Turning 30 in a month. Every time I play it I try to do something different and I've been able to do that for all this time.
What else is out there like Arcanum and Fallout 1/2? Underrail scratches the itch but I'm hungry for more.
Tales of Maj'Eyal
Isn't this the one where you can tell the final boss to kill himself and he actually does
it is a game that is very, very, VERY deeply flawed and yet at the same time has such a unique premise and execution, that if you look past its faults and enjoy the game and allow yourself to be immersed in it, it will probably become one of your favorites
it's a very clear example of what happens when talented or inspired devs end up being cut short by budget and deadlines and this is not the only time this happened to Troika (VTMB especially)
If nothing else, the game has inspired many people to create mods/DND campaigns based on it, because it tackles the concept of "what would actually happen if magic was introduced into victorian england era technology?" pretty well. I don't like some of the later plot points like there being a super advanced civilization that entirely wiped themselves out hundreds of years ago, that shit is way overdone and never done well, but the core premise is still great
>like there being a super advanced civilization that entirely wiped themselves out hundreds of years ago, that shit is way overdone and never done well,
? it happens in real life (well at least it's well known, like with Roman), I thought they were fine and they got killed by that Elf homosexual, they didn't kill themselves. That was the whole point of the tragedy of the city, they were so advanced they pissed the elf guy off
It's shit. Good atmosphere and a world that is unique. The actual game is a buggy unfinished mess.
Modders could probably fix it and make it into something good.
I really should replay and finally finish the game as tech, but magic is just so well-rounded and full of options.
the actual gameplay is pure jank but the setting and the stuff you can do in the game is great.
also total gnome death
It's good, but the UI is fricking terrible and it's extremely janky. Combat system sucks massive wiener. The RPG elements are absolutely top tier though.
This comes from someone who played it back in the day and loved it, before you call me a zoomer.
>implying anyone is contrarian enough to defend Arcanum's combat.
You forget where we are.
It's kino
>Is it actually good or are vrpg liars
It is one of my favorite RPGs ever together with Baldur's Gate 3, Wizardry 8, NWN, Jagged Alliance 3, TES III:Morrowind, Cyberpunk 2077 and Sacred GOLD.
>JA3
Explain yourself
Love the mercs, love the variety, love the destruction.
>good VRPG recos for a zoomer moron
>with the attention span of a mollusk
I suggest you play some other gerne. I hear that kids love Fortnite and LoL(i would never let my own kid play garbage like that).
Any good VRPG recos for a zoomer moron with the attention span of a mollusk (myself)?
>That one israeli Orc rape breeding quest
Seriously what the frick was that and why did they never bring it up again?
adl got to them
What are you talking about? That's just an anti-gnomitic conspiracy theory
Sad that reporter who killed himself with 15 gunshots to the back of the head and charred his legs off with his hands tied to a post....
total gnome death
Why not play it and see for yourself
It has a lot redeeming qualities, but it's also one of the biggest janks ever released. Troika bankrupted for a very good reason
It's overall a great game, oozing atmosphere, lot's of interesting small details, unique setting (even if i dont really like crossover styles) and a great story.
Characters are on the mediocre side, i honestly only remember the dog.
Combat is meh like most crpgs.
Game does get sort of boring towards the end, i couldn't care less about the elves and that pace painted idiot that's on the pic.
>tim cain
no, it's not a good game.
Needs mods that don't exist:
1. Camera always centred on main character, next areas auto loaded, seamless.
2. Different looks for characters. Need them to be much more detailed.
any game that lets me play as a mentally disabled person is automatically good
