It's true >organic gameplay reasons to play Mario >organic gameplay reasons to play Luigi >organic gameplay reasons to play Yoshi >forced roadblock reasons to force you to play Wario, a character inferior to all in every respect
Meanwhile, in multiplayer battle, princess' secret slide, you absolutely MUST pick wario, because not only does he knock other players flat on their back, you can grab them like bowser and throw them across the room when this happens. Of course, apparently other characters can do this but only wario can do the special punch that knocks them into the state where they can be grabbed.
I don't believe you. How come a mariotuber has never mentioned that in his breakdown of why DS is a horrible game compared to the chad 64? Makes less sense than Kai Cenat not commentating GYATT when he says a wide rump
64 is better
DS is absolutely no where near as bad as people make it out to be
The main people who hate the DS version are zooms who never grew up with 64 or the DS to begin with, mainly youtube speedrun kids and the ilk
>better gameplay
name one example. silver stars are worse than red coins, the bosses are just as shit as the original, the artstyle is absolutely fricked and ability-check gatekeeping that forces you to waste minutes traveling around every single time makes the gameplay flow infinitely worse than the original. the only thing 64ds is better in is bloat. you're a moron.
DS had some parts that actually required thought. 64 is completely brainless and easy, every single one of the 120 stars. It's way too easy. You desperately trying to insult my intelligence reeks of insecurity btw.
It's decent with the 3DS/twilight menu circle pad patches.
But why even bother when you can play the decomp in 60FPS/higher resolution on the 3DS natively instead?
Tried emulating for the first time last month. The controls are dreadful. Maybe it was better on original hardware since the touchscreen could sort of cope as an analog stick, but on PC controller it's ass.
It's a 3D platformer originally designed to be played with an analog stick that got ported to a console with a digital D-Pad. It's cool for the novelty of it, but the inferior controls are a deal breaker from the outset.
>An amazing foundation for modders with a vanilla game that leaves a lot to be desired
I don't know. I still think Mario 64 is a good game and most of the hacks look unpolished in one way or another, even Kaze's.
>MUH CONTROLS MUH DPAD SUCKS
the DS game literally modified the controls/physics to accommodate the d-pad and it feels fine to play
it is otherwise the same as the N64 game but with a shitload of new content added in
If the best way you can describe it is "it feels fine", then you're clearly deluded. You don't even have the confidence to say they're good, let alone great. Other anon is correct, they're modified and it feels like shit, especially if you switch between them and compare.
>Take a game that's practically an advanced tech demo for how fluidly a joystick can be used to move a character in 3D space, with Mario walking alone ranging from several speeds to running at full push >put it on a system with a dpad and run button
It was always shit. >b-buh mods and emulation
A moot point, you can fix any game's flaws with mods.
>tons of decomp mods >people have turned Mario 64 into entirely difference genres >people have made total conversions with elaborate custom maps, custom behavior and mechanics >no one has ported DS' content back to 64 and made the definitive game once and for all
>no one has ported DS' content back to 64 and made the definitive game once and for all
Well yeah if they did that that would admitting that issues exist with the original mario 64
Anon it's not a coincidence that the community ACTIVELY refused to learn to mod sm64ds
It's a mixed bag. The extra characters and levels are good but you need Mario for certain levels and Wario was an afterthought, Wild Swing Ding be damned. The control scheme was clunky even back then. Looking at the original version, that is the definitive way to play SM64. All the romhacks put DS to shame, moreso since you can just make Luigi or even Wario with a proper moveset and levels that accentuate his playstyle from Land and even Wario World.
The original is worth playing over this for historical significance but this is a great remake and I don't know how they could've done it better on the DS.
Honestly they're about the same. Would recommend if you wanted a new way to play Mario 64, just play it on the 3DS for the analogue stick
Worst overall because of the inferior controls.
It's worse because of Wario
t. Mario
It's true
>organic gameplay reasons to play Mario
>organic gameplay reasons to play Luigi
>organic gameplay reasons to play Yoshi
>forced roadblock reasons to force you to play Wario, a character inferior to all in every respect
He's Wario, there's your Organic reason NERD

It's like they didn't take any inspiration from how Wario plays in his own games at all and just made him as fat and dumpy as physically possible.
Nintendo is strangely ashamed of the Warioland series.
They're ashamed of how those games completely mog mainline Mario games in terms of both gameplay and soul
worse
Who the frick asked for multiple playable characters with their own gimmicks?
Honestly?
Its a good idea
Just let me choose the fricking character at level select instead of having to switch it manually every time
You can do that if you just play yoshi the whole time. You can select which character cap to use when picking a star in a course.
I don't believe you. How come a mariotuber has never mentioned that in his breakdown of why DS is a horrible game compared to the chad 64? Makes less sense than Kai Cenat not commentating GYATT when he says a wide rump
Only downside is you'll be hearing Yoshi voice lines the entire time. Shouldve been what anon said
shut up meg. you don't know the true meaning of art.
I thought the story was that peach invited MARIO to eat her cake but for some reason a bunch of homosexuals showed up as well (?)
when has nintendo EVER played to the crowd? They never pander to fans, they give you what you never knew you wanted.
It's pure shit. That was my immediate impression from trying it for 5 minutes. Original is a masterpiece.
I don't like planing 3d platformers/ action games on a damned handheld
N64 version is superior
64 is better
DS is absolutely no where near as bad as people make it out to be
The main people who hate the DS version are zooms who never grew up with 64 or the DS to begin with, mainly youtube speedrun kids and the ilk
The minigames in DS immediately make it much more replayable
theyre overrated as frick. Theres like 5 good ones out of the entire bunch. The multiplayer ones were kino though, especially the bob bomb one
Original is better
My dad bought me this game when i was a kid, and i played it daily. He is dead now.
Time is cruel
Is there an in-universe explanation for Wario helping the Mario gang with this quest?
He probably just heard there was gonna be free food and decided he wanted that
DS is a better game with worse controls. It has more levels and better gameplay but the fricked controls are a big issue. I'd emulate, or play on 3ds.
>better gameplay

>replies but doesn't name one single example
>WAHHH ME NO moron U JUST INSECURE
have a nice day subhuman
better because you can cheese everything with helicopter luigi
D-pad makes it objectively worse, but i dont hate it.
>Is the game that the analog was designed for better on a system that doesn't have one
yeah bro, sure
This was made a console too early. Imagine if it came out when Star Fox and OOT got 3DS remakes.
would've been an awesome launch title. Imagine a stereoscopic moldable mario head being your first experience with the 3ds
>mario face warping if he real
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Now Im sad.
Mario 64 seems like a perfect fit for the 3DS just like Starfox 64. Nintendo is fricking moronic.
It's decent with the 3DS/twilight menu circle pad patches.
But why even bother when you can play the decomp in 60FPS/higher resolution on the 3DS natively instead?

Handhelds are for 2d Mario. It's weird that the NSMB series peaked with the first game on DS
Look at how soulful this cover is. Mario is actually expressive.
All remasters, reboots etc are ALWAYS worse.
Mario 64 is the skyrim of 3d platformers. An amazing foundation for modders with a vanilla game that leaves a lot to be desired

The modified them and it sucks. It's very uncomfortable trying to dive and rollout while holding down a run button

moron
It's a sidegrade.
It's different
Better, but don't let the boomers hear you
