11 years when I was 18 I went to my first game/anime convention, I was on the free play setup and was playing some KoF13 with a friend or some randoms, a cute Marisa cosplayer a few years younger than me asked if she could play and we had a couple matches, I complimented her Marisa cosplay since I vaguely knew touhou characters from lurking for 3-4 years at that point and she just looked at me quizzacly, I asked "oh sorry, isn't that your costume?" she said she didn't know what the character was from and seemingly had never heard of touhou and then we went our seperate ways.
