imagine spending days making levels just so that some random guy called "お前はもう死んでいる" can skip over 80% of it. while it looks fun, this webm shows why people say boosting is broken

Everything I've seen from this game makes it look like one of those cobbled together 3d fan games. It's hard to believe a gaming giant like Sega put out a drab open world with almost nothing to do and random sky rails everywhere with level layout romhacks of Generations stages.

Current Sonic Team is made entirely from newbies who never worked on a Sonic game before.

After the release of Frontiers, its game director learned how Sonic games should work from twitter posts and from videos like this one: https://youtu.be/Muha6ElOw8A?si=YtijbBjHamgv7Uiz

When I first played it, I thought this is going to be the best sonic game ever made.

Once you finish the first area, it's more of the same but worse, and it has some of the worst boss battles I've seen.

If you're invested in Sonic's story, it retcons half of the adventure games and it's really REALLY boring and safe.

Basically every review of BoTW. Open world seems to do this to games.

Yeah, the reveal that Chaos was actually a descendant of aliens instead of Chao along with the Chaos emeralds being from space does kindof bug me. BUT, considering this game was originally supposed to be the LAST Sonic game I can kindof see why Iizuka did it. He wanted to drop some kindof bombshell before the series ceased to be. Although, I have heard people say that the Chaos emeralds being from Space also fixes some plot holes in the main timeline and other sonic media. Like, how the Black Arms and Metarex knew about the Chaos emeralds and how to harness their power before ever meeting Sonic and Friends.

      >retcons
It adds to the lore. The chao were never given any definitive backstory.

I liked it. Something about just running in a direction and there being something not far off that leads me to a little challenge that gets me one of the things I need for progression and then shoots me off in the direction of another thing worked. The combat is also quite easy unless you crank up the difficulty to the unlockable harder ones, but that leads to decent cathartic moments of unloading on enemies. It's a good chillout kind of game outside of the setpiece boss fights.

      >running 30 feet in a straight line

It's fine, but holy shit could they please add some actual level design to the open world? Preferably like pic related?

And no, the floating hot wheels tracks do NOT count frick OFF Sonic Team shoving 2D sections into a god damned OPEN WORLD game jesus christ. Also please make Sonic control decently first and then let me make adjustments later, instead of making me fiddle with a dozen different variables that you, the developer, should have gotten down pat before shipping the game? Thanks.

They won't do any of that shit though and a sequel will just be more BoTW sloppa, of course.

      >it retcons half of the adventure games
I think it retcons Unleashed more than any other game. That game explicitly states that the Chaos emeralds were part of the Earth's natural "breaking up and repairing itself" cycle since the beginning of the planet, while Frontiers says that the emeralds just landed from space lol lmao. Some """lore masters""" we got there.

Everything I've seen from this game makes it look like one of those cobbled together 3d fan games. It's hard to believe a gaming giant like Sega put out a drab open world with almost nothing to do and random sky rails everywhere with level layout romhacks of Generations stages.

I mean they're kinda fun sometimes but they should be the exception and not the rule. Also 90% of the game is just doing these piss easy platforming challenges that you can easily break by just jumping over everything and grabbing the item at the end.

Never played it and never will it, but the OST is criminally underlooked.

OST is bangin though, I will give it that.

Unleashed has never been treated as canon except for Surge saying "great gaia below"

I think they just wanted to inject ambiguity back into the emeralds.

That said, I have no confidence in the writing of future games if being presented with a bunch of blank space, the new writer decided to waste time talking about other games and explaining plotholes away.

The game before the dlc was kindof easy but after the dlc? Holy hell, hardest (non-timed, yes, I am excluding Sonic Advance 2 since that was timed) shit in any Sonic Game to date. The Parkour and the trials absolutely mog Eggman Land

If you're a kid, or a big fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, I think you'll really enjoy it.
Otherwise, eh. It's just not superior to various other games on the market in gameplay or story. So I don't think you should buy or play it unless you are underage b& or a big Sonic fan.

I kinda like it. I would say it is fun. But it gets pretty same-y real quickly.
If you want better 3D platformers, then Mario, A Hat in Time, or even some Sonic games like Generations or Colors I'd put higher than Frontiers.
Those games are also much quicker, only taking a few hours rather than Frontiers which is actually pretty long.

It's a poorly cobbled together mess, but it's broken just enough that you can enjoy it if you embrace the poorly thought out mechanics and abuse them.
Chaos Island is an overly scripted mess of an island that most people hate because a majority of the sections are heavily automated. But if you abuse rail launching, or do some stupid shit like find a specific rock or hill to boost off and trick the game about your current state to get stupid air, you'll skip a majority of the automation and have fun getting all the collectibles. It turns every challenge into a puzzle of how to avoid playing the game the intended way. Just make sure to go into the options and mess with the player control sliders. Sonic Team is so incompetent in figuring out how to make a decent character control slider for Sonic that they just gave up and let us customize it ourselves.
That said, this is the most boring Sonic game story wise.
    >LOL! who cares about stories in a Sonic game!
I don't, but Sonic games at least attempted to be somewhat over the top and moronic with their plots and presented them in ridiculous ways (not counting Lost Worlds). Sonic Frontiers, for almost it's entire experience outside of the main boss fights, is fricking boring. Spends way too much time having two characters just stand and talk back and forth about absolute nonsense or their irrelevant feelings. This is the a game where I'm glad a "GO HERE moron!" way point and check point system exists so I can skip every cutscene. Nothing in this game matters. It's just a giant damage control over previous character interpretations.

Level design is bad and annoying.
Writing and presentation is god awful.
