Phenom IIs get unstable at 55°C when overclocked and the absolute limit is 62.

no thats not normal. clean the fans and apply fresh thermal paste.
always use the laptop stand anyway

It still has warranty, might just bring it to the service center

      100°C no
      87°C yes

keep it on a stand, depending on the construction of your laptop one of those stands with fans MIGHT help

DO NOT repaste with regular thermal paste on laptop or you're going to have the same problem in a couple months. Laptop coolers are direct die. You need something that's specced for that. I would recommend getting a sheet of PTM7950. Not only will it never need a repaste but it will give you much better temps than even direct die pastes.

It will boost until it hits either the power or temp limit. you can choose your own limits.
repaste too to be sure you get optimal heat transfer.

I recommend editing the registry to unlock the processor performance boost mode setting in power options and then putting it to efficient or efficient aggressive, if your machine has different modes for casual and gaming then seperate them.
AMD cpu on laptops don't seem to be set properly by default, my fans are almost never on outside of games and if they are i'm doing something intensive.
So most of the time i'm at 1ghz then when its busy it might crank to 4ghz.
Clean your fricking fans as well. My temps never exceed 68'c and thats when gaming.
Helps massively to wipe the os when you first get it, they always put some crap on there you don't want or need. Thats not a legion is it? use the toolkit off github instead of the slop they shill.

      It's a Legion 5,

Then we have the same machine except mine does as its fricking told.
Remove the vantage crap unless you really want it (you don't) then install https://github.com/BartoszCichecki/LenovoLegionToolkit/releases/latest
It does the same without the bloat. Then unlock the registry entry like i said, the machine is going to go turbo over the slightest thing until you do this, it does not need to be at 4ghz to shitpost.
In the bios change the Thermal Optimization setting to min this is just the min fan setting if you don't they will spin for no reason. note that when you update the bios it resets all this so you have to do it again. The PSP is also going to cause stuttering so in device manager disable it unless you really need it.
There is a bit more but thats the gist of it, as for the gpu you can use nvcleanstall to gut the useless crap from your nvidia drivers i for example have nothing but the drivers, no experience etc. Enable clean install you will notice a difference. Right now i'm idling at 32'c.

damn, mine's idling at 55°C. I usually use vantage since it's convenient, guess I'll do as you said and remove it. also, can you spoonfed me on how to unlock the registry?

in admin command prompt or powershell:
            >reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPowerPowerSettings54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00be337238-0d82-4146-a960-4f3749d470c7" /v "Attributes" /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f
Then you just set it to efficient, efficient aggressive also works but its more willing to go full power in situations where it will probably finish before it needs to, doesn't really matter i suppose.
If you have power options open before you do the registry you will need to close and reopen. There is also the cpu parking to consider but i can't say its worth the bother, i have mine on 10% so 90% of my cores sleep. My laptop is also on a stand, you will experience improvement but perhaps not to my level as i've turned off so much bloat in the os.

Ryzen cpu runs hot so your temp is normal
I have a legion 7 with a 3080 and I peak around 67 gpu heat running SD and gaming. Get a laptop riser stand or a cooling pad. The riser will do the best job but you MUST dust it with something like a electric duster every few months. You don't even need to open it just blow through a vent.
You also need to adjust the cooling profile in bios.

but I'm a little worried since it's hovering around 87°C - 90°C when I'm playing resident evil 3 remake, even when it sits on laptop stand. I don't my cpu or gpu toast from overheating
