It plays like hot garbage, it's hard due to shitty programming and jank controls.
Comparing it to Sekiro is an insult to Sekiro.

So the average Souls game?
That's only true for ds2

the Dark Souls of Sonic
the weakest of seven souls games, but in DLC form?
Wrong thread, bro.
what does the fifth worst souls game have to do with sekiro?
Ah, shit here we go again?
looks like the thread died. im also curious about this DLC. i saw a clip of someone climbing a tower then falling and losing like 10 mintues of progress.
I'm currently at the boss rush while playing on Hard, playing on hard. My impressions so far:
>playing as Amy, Knuckles and Tails is cool and their challenges are fun, but some are so easily skippable
>you can pretty much fly infinitely with Tails' Tornado, making his challenges pretty much unexistent
>they went overboard on unlocking the map, it unlocks so slow and some challenges just waste too much of your time just for 3-5 unlocked blocks
>Sonic's tower challenges go from decent to downright infurating, the second tower climb forces you to reload the game if you fall because breakable blocks don't reappear
>the fourth tower is designed in the most moronic way possible, with shitty camera angles and extremely precise jumps into rails, I ended clipping through one of the hoops several times for going too fast
>overworld bosses were buffed in such a ridiculous way it becomes a chore to fight them
>the boss rush was absolutely not playtested, you have to beat all three bosses in a row with only 400 rings and locked into perfect parry, so Wyvern becomes a miserable experience to fight against when it was my favorite fight originally because his attacks were not designed for perfect parry at all, and you have to do it several times to be able to damage it
>if you lose, you go back to the very beginning, also you have to do the climbs to get the emeralds before the fights, so it becomes a waste of time every time you have to restart the trial
They ramped the difficulty to 11 and thought that it would pass for good gameplay, but the DLC feels like it came from a hard mode fanmod with no knowledge of good platforming design. Also, from what I read in the past threads, the tips you need to fight the final boss are locked behind 100% completition.
Lots of the really hard things get nullified on lower difficulties, I didn't test it but you get more parry frames for perfect parries during the boss rush, and the towers do get balls you can homing attack to which reduces the amount of precision you need to get through it
It's actually possible to complete tower 2 with all the destructables gone, but you have to do a lot of tightrope walking and precise platforming. I ended up doing it that way because I didn't know dying would respawn them.
The only actual bullshit in the DLC is the perfect parry. There was just no fixing the entire parry mechanic in Frontiers, it's fricked on a fundamental level, but forcing the player to suddenly learn *this* bullshit during an already difficult boss rush was too far.
The towers are a nice challenge as long as you have a handle on the controls.
The new characters were pretty good in their own ways, albeit with a few questionable gameplay decisions like animation wind-ups.
The "new" guardians are lazy and janky, but forgivable.
The Cyberspace stages are also lazy, but make up for it by being fun and interesting.
The new final boss was what Supreme should've been.
There is absolutely no silver lining to the last trial and the perfect parry. None. It shouldn't exist. Throw the idea in the trash and come up with a new control scheme scheme.
There's no way they playtested the perfect parry in Extreme. No way anyone thought a person playing on the that difficulty would enjoy retrying this trial multitudes of times and having to do the Wyvern tower/path segment every time. The parry window is more strict than other action game parries like DMC or fighting game parries.
As for the Final Boss. That boss was seemingly obtuse on purpose because the reward for doing 100% of the DLC are two tips from the Master King Koco on how to fight the final boss.
To those wanting context for why Perfect Parry sucks in this game, it's two primary reasons:
1.) the game generally gives you an infinite parry prior to this, you can just hold it for like 20 seconds straight. when modders tried to implement a timed parry, suddenly the move became almost unusable because Sonic has a full second of downtime after missing one, and shit moves fast enough that the infinite parry was pretty necessary in the end.
2.) all of the bosses have disjointed impacts on their attack animations. Giganto, Wyvern, Knight, and even Supreme will do massive swings that then hit you a second after the attack with the fricking wind shockwave, and this is a consistent trait of the animations; I'm pretty sure the devs just turn the bosses into one giant hurtbox mid-animation. Final Horizon's master trial boss rush then proceeds to speed their attacks up, so you not only have less than a second of Perfect Parry frame windows the higher the difficulty goes, you have to parry this shit with attacks that don't correlate whatsoever with logical timing.
You also have to do all of this unleveled, so 400 rings max shared between all three fights with the bottom tier of damage that people only did for challenging themselves, and you have to do the travel-to-the-boss's-emerald stuff prior to each fight as regular Sonic, so you can't get hit once as him or you may as well restart. And there's no checkpoints; you frick up on Knight, you gotta start over with Giganto.
>The towers are a nice challenge as long as you have a handle on the controls.
Like hell they are, one wrong move with these dogshit controls and you just fall right back to the start. This DLC was FREE and I still felt robbed.

Getting Over It with Sonic The Hedgehog
The towers take less than 5 minutes to climb
First and second towers are hard but doable, the great filter is the boss rush where Parry is not infinite but frame perfect in hard difficulty which doesn't work well with titans' attacks which are barely readable
In Extreme difficulty, you'll get one shot on hit
It's absurdly hard, which is what's great about it.
Ganker isn't the place to ask about this, most of Ganker couldn't beat the DLC. Most of Ganker is, it turns out, really bad at Sonic games.
>Most of Ganker is, it turns out, really bad at Sonic games.
As expected.
So is every single Sonic game before Frontiers just trash? But not in the way of saying Frontiers isn't still a shitty game, but that the other games were still so braindead easy even Ganker could beat them? Because no one once stated they couldn't have beaten SA1/2.
3D Sonic games are generally pretty mediocre but because they're so braindead and automated, people just tend to turn their brains off and enjoy the spectacle.
Frontiers is mediocre too but because it actually forces you to engage with it, people are starting to realize how poorly designed the game is.
>automatic
do excellent times and learn not to bump into walls.
>but bo-
see eggman land and nearly all stages of unleashed
the reason most stages became brain dead in colors is because of morons who press the boost like morons and get amazed at them dying, sa gameplay had a high skill ceiling which totally controllable controls but you said "huh huh, the game wants me to learn new things" and you threw to the trash making for pure shit to compensate your moronation.
that doesn't justify sega but consumer trends is a factor of the pure shit that is the modern industry by the comforting of players and the removal of interesting mechanics by literal morons who cannot read (they needed better education but that doesn't justify their modern shit choices, just support so they understand their difficulties and as a result become better at all parts of their life, the issue is that the liberty to learn is removed and changed by mediocrity by authority on the general educative system, understand that and stop thinking that learning isn't fun and be happy).
>Most of Ganker is, it turns out, really bad at games.
very true
except it's always
>did you beat it
>yes with X
>LMAO U DIDN'T REALLY BEAT TEH GAME
rinse and repeat
Yeah its pretty difficult though doable on hard for the majority. The final trial is busted on hard though
>People getting filtered by a Sonic game?
It's not the first time
Weren't people complaining that parrying in frontiers was spammable? Have they fixed that?
You can't fix an intended mechanic, the game was designed with the normal parry in mind, especially Wyvern who can't be damaged unless you parry it first and whose attacks on the second phase are hard to follow, so suddenly switching it into having to do it perfectly in the middle of a boss rush with limited rings becomes a very frustrating and terrible experience.
Yes so they should have made the enemy attacks more readable to compensate. I beat the trials by spamming parry as soon as the windup animation started anyway so clearly their efforts didn't work out.
No since for one it only applies to the boss rush and the final boss, and two, the parry frames on anything but easy is unreasonably small and the bosses clearly aren't designed with such tight timing in mind
They went from the Parry window lasting 15 seconds to Easy mode being 60 frames, Normal 12 frames, Hard 8 frames, and Extreme 4 frames + failing once is game over.
Can someone post good gameplay of an actually good example of classic Sonic in 3D to show how actual difficult gameplay is meant to be designed?
Then you'd realize why the DLC of this dogshit isn't good game design. You can't make a broken engine with the only defense being "the POTENTIAL of SA3 NEXT TIME" and expect anyone to defend a game demanding perfection when it's factually impossible to do so. Crash N Sane and Crash 4 weren't nearly as broken as this trash and even then no one defended how BS difficult Crash 4's 106% content was.
Black person who fricking cares about 3d sonic? it's not even fun and it looks like a 360 game.
>Sonicgays are so shit at games that anything about above-average difficulty is "le impossible Dark Souls"
The boss rush wouldn’t be that bad if it wasn’t for Wyvern. He’s just tedious, frick doing his lame boost section before going super if it just skipped to the actual fight it would waste so much less time.
>Posting Clickbait
Frick off shill
Forget the towers and boss rush, I checked out at the snake challenge. You simply do not have enough time to kill all of those enemies with gimped level 1 stats.
Cylooping is a trap. Nearly impossible to do it that way. You want to let him launch his shell, hit him, parry the shell on its way back, repeat.
>Nearly impossible to do it that way
I managed to do it on hard mode. Had something like 4-6 seconds left
Difficult garbage is difficult. And still garbage. Sonic Team should be ashamed for this unfinished mess of game.
> Implying anyone in this thread ever beat a Sonic game.
Fans especially. They're the worst. You're all full of shit, you can't lie to me.
>fans are calling sonic frontiers' dlc a good game
Good to hear they're happy with what they got
mmm sloppa yum!
there is no time to take it slow
let the blood inside you flow
For me, it's Kellin Quinn's cover of I'm Here.
My friend said he hated it because there were just so many little problems that made the game tedious as shit
I liked when they introduced a completely arbitrary new mechanic during the final boss battle without telling you it exists unless you fully complete the exploration of the island, very organic.
From Drones are really going to infect every media they thouch.
Explain this to me bros, I've never played the game and I probably never will.
What does this mean.
In the base game you had like 13 seconds parry window.
In the new update you only have few frames
That's so frickig stupid are you absolutely serious right now?
Please elaborate I'm high out of my mind and drunk please elaborate.
ok drunky, it wants to call it the "Dark souls" of sonic games. a video game journalist's go-to phrase when they want to call a game hard.
Lmao, that's so fricking stupid. Why even generate the fricking page god I hate vidya journos so frickig much.
They did that for the final boss and for the boss rush before it
no
no, we know
we know what this article wants to say. It doesn't wanna call it the "sekiro" of sonic games. We fricking know what they want to call it.
sonic fans wouldn't know a good game if it bit them in the face
True
>LOL JUST HIT THE CABLE
>NO WE WONT TELL YOU TO PRESS THE BUMPERS AFTER HITTING
Awful final boss, he’s piss easy too
