Oblivion is the most soulless RPG ever made, even worse than Skyrim.
The entire concept of the game was to dumb down the genre to appeal to console babies.

but skyrim did that to an even worse extent, "GO HERE moron!!!" signs included. it's disingenuous to pretend otherwise.

Morrowind ran perfectly on my celeron tualatin at 1.2GHz, 384MB of sdram and geforce 2 mx400.
Its a marvel of software design from a programming and database application engineering stamd point.
On the same computer shitty microshiut access database with a few hundred items over dozen tables would work so slow my ex boss asked me to buy a pentium 4 prescott at 2Ghz and back then exorbitantly expensive 1.5GB of ram and the aopen motherboard that supported 3 x 512 sticks.
Skyrim is king because of mods, only geriatrics disagree
My evidence is the steam player count, community interaction, sheer number of private creations, public enthusiasm, long standing appeal to the masses. Morrowind is dice rolling dogshit for nerds. Get fricked losers.
Yes. It's the foundation of the whole series; most of the lore comes from it. Daggerfall has some cool features that aren't in Morrowind, and Oblivion has some cool features that aren't in Morrowind, but they're both generic and unintersting without Morrowind.
As for Skyrim, that piece of shit game has basically nothing going for it. It's just a dumbed down Oblivion.
morrowind has the best world, bestiary, character building, selection of skills. unfortunately it also has a lot of really poor mechanical decisions. the way in which skills level is often really illogical (stronger spells dont give more xp, mercantile only goes up if you change the price), which discourages natural gameplay and basically makes trainers a necessity. (or doing silly things make making a super weak spell and spamming it, which im not a fan of doing). your damage with marksman weapons is determined by strength and not agility. sneaking and stealth bonuses dont work very well. the game is too easy to exploit, so you have to intentionally gimp yourself, or you feel like you're cheating and the game because too easy too fast. i usually restrict myself from using alchemy, or sujamma, or creeper merchant, just so the game isnt too easy.
i still think its the best, but i wish it had some mechanical improvements that would make it better. its not fun to play the game "naturally" because the mechanics dont work well for that. too much of the game, for me, is spent deciding how i'm going to work around the design elements to have a good time.
Morrowind is baby's first open world RPG. So it gets a lot of people who defend it just for that, they figured out the terrible combat system and pretend that anyone who doesn't like the game doesn't understand the combat system.
What makes Morrowind great is that it has a unique world with some neat lore. Its a fun world to explore, learn about the people who live in it, and the more power alchemy and enchanting systems in the entire series.
It's impossible to provide advice. I have no idea what you tried or what your issue is. If you aren't trolling, I'm here to inform you that you're moronic

Normal humans would post a common solution to a common issue. A vague way to troubleshoot, but it works or 99% of IT people would be out of a job.

Saying any particular entry in TES is best is like claiming a particular turd in a septic tank to be the cleanest.
