hmm ok so i just finished reading the thread and it sounds like the deck didn't do very well huh? maybe next time it won't be as 'shitted' and 'flopped' as you are all saying
It's the coolest gaming system I've ever owned. Made me feel like a kid when I was unboxing it and playing around with it. I still can't believe I have this thing and have all these HD emulations installed and I have the dock so I can play them all on my TV. This thing is really a beauty
The value of SteamDeck is proton OS.
Given that Windows is speedrunning their suicide by turning their OS into adware, cause apparently the OS being Spyware wasn't enough... A linux work around that kneecaps windows as the only gaming option would change the PC landscape. >But hows it run now?
It's surprisingly usable for base vanilla games. Runs most stuff and Steam having such a tight grip on digital distribution may bully devs into making their games more linux friendly.
Not gonna pretend it is perfect, but I've been impressed. >Steam could get devs to start doing more linux support by offering bigger revenue splits for their games having a linux version as well to incentivise the push >Steam needs to release Proton for PC as an OS to give people a way out of Windows >Proton layer mod tools as mods are nonexistent for Proton >Use AI to catch and fix bugs in Proton with options to patch of let the bug ride. >for Steam Deck 2 make it more portable. Have detachable controllers that use a locking latch mechanism that gets around the switch pattent by the method of attaching. >force companies to do a steamdeck compatability check for any update and refuse to allow any update that breaks deck compatability.
Steam deck is a good start, but there is a lot that it needs to work on mainly on the software side.
dual trackpads and the integration of the steam controller settings for mapping those trackpads (plus all the buttons) is incredible design. Short of a game like typing of the dead where you need to use the keyboard to type words rather than just as individual buttons for actions, just about everything is playable, even RTS games are manageable on lower difficulties
naw it's pretty cool if you're going to play mainly popular PC games
I wanted to use it for VNs and older JRPGs on steam and it absolutely doesn't play those well without having to frick around with the homosexualry that is Linux compatibility and random distros or hotfixes
if you've got the cash you might as well just get a small laptop
that's what I did and I love it
>buy one >play Aperture Desk Job, bretty fun >install emudeck and some ps1 games >Crash and Spyro run like shit >controls dont even work >cant be bothered to mess with it further >play stardew valley for 40 hours
really enjoying stardew valley but don't feel like i've got my money's worth yet. I need to put more effort into making the PS1 games and other games I want to emulate work but I got tired of it pretty fast. I feel like I can slog through troubleshooting on PC but the Steam Deck felt a lot slower due to lack of keyboard etc. I heard you can play your free epic games pretty easily as well. There's a lot of stuff I want to do I'm just too lazy to do it right now.
When I standing in line to entroll for high school I pulled out my DS and started playing Mario to pass the time. My mum noticed and immediately took it out of hands. “You’re not a kid anymore. It’s inappropriate to be playing games in public. People will think you’re a dweeb.” This was nearly 20 years ago and it’s really stuck with me ever since. Every time I see someone playing a switch or deck in public I think of that conversation, it’s 100% soi behaviour.
What the frick do you care man do you wanna play games on it or not
>dude why do you even care about masculinity just play video games lol
Found the soiboy
There's nothing more womanly than conforming to societal standards.
quentin warned us about your kind
reminder Quentin got caught smoking weed before. Gigachad would probably think you're an unlovable Black person, you're not a sigma you're a burden.
its a portable PC at an extreme value price point that has multiple solid use cases
if I was advising someone who has never had a PC before I would suggest get a Steam Deck with dock mouse, keyboard and 1080p monitor
settle down Steve
I just started Simpsons Hit & Run (PS2) on it. I guess I'm saying you can make it into whatever you want, soi or chad machine.
You should try the modded PC port, it plays great on steam deck.
>check steam's store
>it's advertised as "a console experience"
>costs 3x more than buying a moddable used switch
Hmm
>cost 3x more than a moddable used switch
Let me guess you are only interested in the OLED or the meme ones
While being infinitely more usable than a modded Switch.

unfortunate

So a LeGo but runs less games then?
yeah let me just pull out my controller stand, keyboard and mouse while on the train/at the airport/outdoors waiting for something
Or you could not since the controllers are very clearly just detachable.

It is made of plastic metal silicon and rubber, so Idk.

why do people use emusuck when retroarch is ON steam

>nineteen year olds aren't behind all that muh fruitiger aero bullshit
It's okay, the ones with windows are better
