there are niche situations where a pokemon with contrary is better in the version of the games I play but I can't think of any of the base games where that's true. are there any legendaries or something that boost their own stats and wipe your team with a low catch rate? contrary would be nice for that.
Within the top 5 for gimmickless captures. Smeargle is my personal choice thanks to Sketch.

I'd settle for Pokemon just not shrugging off status conditions if they have an Ability that benefits from them.
I use wide lens Gallade with hypnosis and heal pulse in case I have to catch something using recoil moves
Gallade is also better when you're trying to catch a roaming Pokemon since it can learn Mean Look.
breloom is one of the few pokemon i want to hug but not in a manner that has to do with the pursuit of making my wiener grow
