China as it is now isn’t sustainable because they need to project constantly building themselves up for the future quickly without actually putting in the work required to do so effectively. When a problem happens the government will try to hide it until it bubbles over to the point where it’s no longer can’t be brushed aside and then blame some low level official in a local municipality for it. This is what happened during Covid.
