I don't mind that part as much since they're one-and-done when you're in an area. If the enemies respawned or there were more encounters it would be a bigger deal but I'm okay with it as it is now.
Biggest thing for me is that I wish you started fights with full MP, Kept your combo meter between fights, or both. I got prolapsed by a group of ant lions that I couldn't really do anything about because I didn't have the attack spread to kill them fast enough from multiplying on turn one so it ended up being 3 vs 11.
I suppose I could be more proactive about cooking MP healing foods but since you only have 10 food slots that seems annoying too

nah, there's been some good examples but they need to not blatantly stand out. spider girl in undertale doesn't feel out of place. reize in shovel knight just feels like a parody of anime heroes given the rest of the games designs, crosscode has a bunch of food items that were backer chosen and they tend to either just be obscure foods the person liked or references that you don't need to get the joke, like DK pepper being just a soda if you don't know its a steins gate thing.

Yeah, I think it is. A lot of people circle-jerked Octopath as a worthy retro successor, but I always felt like it was missing something when I was playing. Sea of Stars actually feels like what people were praising Octopath for, and it's truly amazing so far. Exploration is top notch, every area is beautiful, great characters, beautiful music, intriguing story, amazing combat, actually fun mini games, no random encounters, good balancing. It also has a lot of the fun stuff that modern JRPGs have; you can ambush enemies with a grappling hook like in Persona 5. This is like, top 5 JRPGs ever made. You can tell these devs really love the best things in this genre. Oh, and no bugs encountered in my playthrough.
Dropped it after around 10 hours or so. Gameplay isn't good or fresh enough to carry how little I care about any of the party members or the story. It's not the worst gameplay in the world, but only 4 skills per character? No customization but a tiny level up bonus? Only Attack and Defense as stats? Really? I could forgive all this if I at least liked the party or the writing, but like I said, I dont.
Holding out for Eiyuden now. Really hoping it's not a disappointment like this was.

I doubt they will ever continue the overarching story chronologically after 3.
Any Suikoden game in the future will be another prequel or an alternate/reboot like Tierkreis.
The only game that Konami is actually developing in-house right now that I can tell is Metal Gear Delta with literally everything else being outsourced. The only thing I hope from this is that maybe they actually start growing their own in-house studios again, but the fact they gave SH2 to Blooper who have explicitly already stated that their changing it to meet their own vision shows that Konami is still making the same mistakes as they were a decade ago with their IPs.
I fricking love this game so far, but this really sticks out like a sore thumb. It's not that it's Reddit (the frick does that even mean anyways), but there's grammatical errors from time to time and sometimes it seems like they just forgot that commas exist and are vital in making text readable. It's strange that every other aspect of the game is so polished, but this was completely skipped over.

For $15 I'd say it's fine. Visuals are good, gameplay's engaging enough and it's nice to play a RPG in 2023 that at least tries to have puzzles/obstacles in dungeons instead of just walking forward with a side path here and there, I just wish they made the puzzles harder. Overall story is whatever so far and the dialogue isn't very good so I wouldn't play it for the narrative.
You can’t but I’d argue the game doesn’t really need it when it also has combos and live mana. The fights are kinda like puzzles and if the devs had given the characters too many ways to solve them it would’ve made the game too trivial.

The game is just kinda bland. The pixel art looks good and that's about it. Combat system is slow, characters are nonexistent, the plot 10 hours in is still essentially nothing. There's minimal character customizability (you choose which of 4 stats gets a slightly higher boost when you level up), gear is just number go up besides accessories which are still not exactly interesting, each character has FOUR FRICKING SKILLS... It's just... Boring.
i was somewhat enjoying it until i needed Valere to win a fight against a group of ants and she jumped behind the scenery during her moon attack, so i couldn't see her model to bounce the attack off of her, i just uninstalled the game right there and then.

nah, there's been some good examples but they need to not blatantly stand out. spider girl in undertale doesn't feel out of place. reize in shovel knight just feels like a parody of anime heroes given the rest of the games designs, crosscode has a bunch of food items that were backer chosen and they tend to either just be obscure foods the person liked or references that you don't need to get the joke, like DK pepper being just a soda if you don't know its a steins gate thing.

I'm 4-5 hours in and knowing there's going to be 20ish more hours of this I cannot say strongly enough it's not worth it.
Yeah, I think it is. A lot of people circle-jerked Octopath as a worthy retro successor, but I always felt like it was missing something when I was playing. Sea of Stars actually feels like what people were praising Octopath for, and it's truly amazing so far. Exploration is top notch, every area is beautiful, great characters, beautiful music, intriguing story, amazing combat, actually fun mini games, no random encounters, good balancing. It also has a lot of the fun stuff that modern JRPGs have; you can ambush enemies with a grappling hook like in Persona 5. This is like, top 5 JRPGs ever made. You can tell these devs really love the best things in this genre. Oh, and no bugs encountered in my playthrough.

Dropped it after around 10 hours or so. Gameplay isn't good or fresh enough to carry how little I care about any of the party members or the story. It's not the worst gameplay in the world, but only 4 skills per character? No customization but a tiny level up bonus? Only Attack and Defense as stats? Really? I could forgive all this if I at least liked the party or the writing, but like I said, I dont.

The only game that Konami is actually developing in-house right now that I can tell is Metal Gear Delta with literally everything else being outsourced. The only thing I hope from this is that maybe they actually start growing their own in-house studios again, but the fact they gave SH2 to Blooper who have explicitly already stated that their changing it to meet their own vision shows that Konami is still making the same mistakes as they were a decade ago with their IPs.

I fricking love this game so far, but this really sticks out like a sore thumb. It's not that it's Reddit (the frick does that even mean anyways), but there's grammatical errors from time to time and sometimes it seems like they just forgot that commas exist and are vital in making text readable. It's strange that every other aspect of the game is so polished, but this was completely skipped over.

For $15 I'd say it's fine. Visuals are good, gameplay's engaging enough and it's nice to play a RPG in 2023 that at least tries to have puzzles/obstacles in dungeons instead of just walking forward with a side path here and there, I just wish they made the puzzles harder. Overall story is whatever so far and the dialogue isn't very good so I wouldn't play it for the narrative.

playing it and it reminds me way more of secret of mana than chrono trigger. the game is not woke at all. gameplay is fine, the mini game wheels is a big weird to get into. I like the dungeons the most, they are really fun. characters and story are really save and nothing ground breaking. which on the one hand was exactly what sabotage studios was aiming for, but most would have liked something new especially in character development and themes, because they have become so incredible stale in JRGPs over the years with only very few exceptions (Nier). It's a really good game, but it could have been groundbreaking, it's a shame.

I'm 35. I wanted to play a video game. I'm also concurrently playing Disco Elysium and while that has a novel's worth of text, you start the game immediately instead of shoveling boring fricking narrative at you for an hour.
It's apparently story-driven but I just didn't feel anything for the characters. I enjoyed Octopath 2 much more since you can actually skip cutscenes and just rewatch them later at the taverns if you wanted to.

The game is just kinda bland. The pixel art looks good and that's about it. Combat system is slow, characters are nonexistent, the plot 10 hours in is still essentially nothing. There's minimal character customizability (you choose which of 4 stats gets a slightly higher boost when you level up), gear is just number go up besides accessories which are still not exactly interesting, each character has FOUR FRICKING SKILLS... It's just... Boring.
i was somewhat enjoying it until i needed Valere to win a fight against a group of ants and she jumped behind the scenery during her moon attack, so i couldn't see her model to bounce the attack off of her, i just uninstalled the game right there and then.

Played the demo, but I think I got filtered because I could not beat that boss, even with inputs. That roulette gimmick is way too rng based for my taste.
I know the demo puts you in the middle of the story with a low level and shit armor/ weapons, but I feel the enemies hit too hard, again, even with proper inputs.
