I could definitely see 8 being pretty low, but putting it significantly lower than 7 and 9 (let alone 6 being below it) is ridiculous.
I will never understand the praise the Kalos dex has. It is the smallest dex in the series and has some of the worst designs. Even the megas were ass until ORAS. It has like a handful of cool designs like Hawlucha and Klefki.

Gen 1 is literally the first so by default it is objectively the blueprint for what Pokémon should look like. Pokémon after gen 1 can have good designs and not look like Pokémon.

A Pokemon like Dunsparce that doesn't want to fight and prefers hiding shouldn't evolve into something fierce, nor it should evolve much.
One of the major themes of Dunsparce is that it's needlessly rare because it always runs from conflict, so Dudunsparce gets a needlessly rare three-segment form. It's perfect.
Dudunsparce doesn't get a pass for looking like its pre-evo because it's new, but if classic Pokemon like Magneton, Dugtrio or Machoke came out today they would be shat on endlessly.
Dudunsparce is what Pokemon would be like if the series stayed true to its roots.
That's what segments are. They give it a fresh look without subverting it and renew the feeling of rarity that Dunsparce was supposed to have but lost.

The "meme" is not that it's long, it's that there's a super rare form that doesn't do anything but only a few people get, just like what Dunsparce was originally meant to be.
Nowadays you can't have a super rare hidden tsuchinoko Pokemon because its location will be on the internet as soon as the game is released, so they gave it rarity in a new way that's still goofy and funny.
