they get deserved criticism but they're probably the best non-remake games in the 3D era. They're decent fun and if you like Pokemon you'll enjoy yourself. They aren't so much bad games so much as they are 2/3 of a good one.

fpbp, the games got a lot of shit on launch but the standards were just way higher back then and then every subsequent game was even worse
Being real here, I actually agree with this. XY is overall, in my opinion, a mediocre Pokémon game, but every subsequent game after has gotten worse and worse.

yes kalos is a nice region with much pokemon to catch
better than SwSh pre DLC, I'll give you that. Not so much to gain from playing it but there is something.

Not a lot of people talk about the Battle Chateau but based off of your post you might actually be into it, that and the style mechanics associated with customization and Lumiose City. I say go for it, especially since official online services are shutting down soon.
As someone who doesn't know French culture, I don't remember getting much of a French vibe from it except in Lumiose City.
Route 6 and the chateau near it felt pretty French
If you are a fan of the pokemon themselves and the anime then you will like it I think.
It's just a laid back game that has a very comfortable regional dex and good artwork/animations, tge character customization is rewarding too.
It's a bit like XD/Colosseum without the autism
That being said I've never played switch era games because I don't have one
