Looks kind of interesting, but I've been delving into hidden gem games and tons of them are actually shit but have one or two interesting ideas.
King's Field isn't exactly a hidden gem. Pretty much all the "hidden gems" of yesteryear have been discovered except for those that remain untranslated.

Shadow Tower is its only true successor (STA sucks)

KF4 is only popular for exposure and graphics, Shadow Tower 1 perfected the KF games
Evergrace was a good game.. I had bought it twice :3 haven't played it's sequal yet. I unno if this counts but what about Tecmos Deception?
Lol, Shadow Tower 1 sucks. I beat the game with over 60 hp potions and the second half of the game I realized that you are better off running by everyone and not damaging your equipment. Also far too many enemies just hurt you when you are close, no skill involved outside of leave area or swing at enemy. Some cool design changes that you can see influenced DeS, but none of them are done well in this game.
Yes King's Field games are fun if you like exploring. If you only like combat, probably not for you.

Wrong, the games got progressively worse, and it was clear when King's Field II added bosses despite the combat being shit.
You have to appreciate old school pc dungeon crawlers to really appreciate it, otherwise its not worth playing.

if you're up for a slow paced dungeon crawl you might have a good time. Either way the games are worth playing, even if they don't end up being your cup of tea
KF4's greatest downside is its slow turn speed. There are mods to fix this, and if you're playing on PC the program Mouse Injector works nicely with the whole KF series
KF4 has only a loose connection to KF1-3 so it's a good place to start storywise, but you nay have a hard time going backwards in the series from there
It's honestly too slow, like slower than the PS1 games. It if we're like the speed of eternal ring it would be much more enjoyable.
It's a very well designed game. It feels very jank in some areas to the point you may actually feel smart / quaint for figuring out how a key is even used or something.

the real human beings among us will tell you that it's a phenomenal dungeon crawler and you should absolutely play it now IN ADDITION TO shadow tower and every other KF game
